Yesterday, our buddy, Susan Katz Keating asked what this was. Turns out that it is a homemade tank built by Syrian rebels;
Nice Sony Playstation controls for the machinegun, huh? Seems like a lot of work to get a machinegun into the action, though. But it is marginally better than the Egyptian helmet thing we saw last year.

I hesitate to disparage this too much, too fast. It could be that facing lightly armed infantry, it has some use. I realize I’m almost 70 years behind the times, but for comparison I offer you the homemade ‘armored’ cars, buses, and trucks used by the Israelis in the 1940s. The road from Bab al Wad/Shaar Hagai is lined with the remains of these vehicles that were used to break the siege of Jerusalem. Today they are memorials to the desperation, ingenuity, and bravery of the early Israeli fighters. It looks here like the Syrian rebels are working on a similar mindset, and I wouldn’t discount it too fast. It might have morale-boosting value, even if the actual military value is slim.
