Karzai offers to exchange US immunity for sovereignty

| December 8, 2012

Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports that Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan has made an offer to trade immunity from Afghan courts to US troops in Afghanistan for a return of sovereignty. On it’s face,the offer sounds reasonable. Well, until you look at what he calls “sovereignty”;

Karzai said his key demands were that the US handover all detainees in its custody and shut all its prisons in Afghanistan, handover control of Afghan airspace, and stop military raids on Afghan villages.

“Within those conditions, and once those conditions are fulfilled by the United States with us, Afghanistan is willing to consider immunity for them and I, as the president of Afghanistan, am willing to go to the Afghan people and put that case forward and try to argue for it,” he added.

Yeah, so we close our prisons and handover the detainees – and they’re all going to end up rearmed and fighting us again. Either they’ll escape or the Afghan courts will release them.

What, exactly is the Afghan government going to do with Afghan airspace? Basically, he wants control over our drone program and our fire support for our troops.

Raids on villages is the only thing we have to combat the Taliban from moving into Afghan villages.

So, boiled down to it’s essence, Karzai’s proposal is that he wants us to stay on our bases and throw money at him. Only an idiot would agree to that, lucky for Karzai we’ve got an idiot formulating our policy in Afghanistan – Joe Bite-Me.

Najibullah.

Same deal with the Soviet Union.

Same response.

Karzai will meet the same end.

The Dead Man

Isn’t it usually a bad idea to try and play both sides of an armed conflict?

And calling Joe an idiot is an insult to all those idiots I’ve contemplated clubbing over the years.

Dear Mr. Karzai:

I’ve received your proposal and taken under due consideration.

I have now formulated my response, to wit: jam it.

Sincerely, etc.

I am really torn by the situation in A-stan. If we didn’t have so many precious lives invested in that hellhole, I would say screw it and pull chocks. Then again, maybe we should leave before more lives are lost helping ungrateful assholes who will never change.

Put a petty warlord in power….and he’s going to act like a petty warlord.

Our interest in AFG is ten years past it’s expiration date.

Agree with CI. GTFO, the sooner, the better.

James

This is an illegal occupation based on an illegal invasion based on a lie that has cost half a million lives and billions of US taxpayer dollars to which only the corrupt have benefited and helped put the US into its economic demise. Get out and leave the innocent people alone. The last thing they need is 100,000 US insane mercs roaming the country shooting to kill in order to protect the CIA drug empire.

Oliver

James raises a good point. America has lost her humanity and religion for the sake of murderous imperialism and it is quite easy to see that the only reason we are still in that country is to plunder its mining and for the 80 billion dollar drug plantation we have there.

Tanya

After 11 years I’m sure we can say that the almighty America has lost this war badly to a bunch of villagers and before that we got kicked out of Iraq embarrassingly during the night and before that it was a loss against a bunch of villagers in Vietnam. We should give up this imperial BS and then maybe other people might start to like us and our economy might actually prosper through fair trade agreements rather than having 50 million of us wallowing in poverty.

James, Oliver, and Tanya huh? You do realize that we realize that either you’re all three the same person or that your little group effort is good only for chuckles. I opt for the latter. Oh, and thanks for playing!

2-17 Air Cav

Actually, I erred. I think you’re all the same person. You couldn’t get three lefty pukes up before noon any day of the week but especially Sunday.

You are okay, Air Cav. Don’t care what I heard about ya. (I’m kidding!) J-O-T…hm. I’ll wager a bet it the same keyboard, fingers and shithead too…:)

@12. Had me nervous, streetsweeper. I’ve heard some bad stuff about myself over the years and I was wondering whether we were traveling in the same circles and didn’t even know it! As for Moe, Larry, and Ivan, he/she/it thinks, “Oh, they’re Vets and, ergo, they’re all so stooooopid. They’ll never figure it out.”

Interesting. All three of those tools were commenting from the same confirmed proxy server’s IP address.

In Iran.

Apparently Iranians aren’t any more internet savvy than Nigerians…..
