Gangnam bile

| December 7, 2012

I first read this dust-up earlier about the South Korean “artist” Psy who is going to the White House this week because, ya know, the American Idol president has to surround himself with popular culture figures to win approval from the shallow voters who use that as a gauge instead of the issues which are affecting their livelihoods.

I saw it at Michelle Malkin‘s (by the way, TSO is playing poker with her as I write this) and our buddies at ROKDrop. But, apparently, this PSY fellow did an anti-American rap a few years ago which goes like this;

Kill those —— Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
Kill those —— Yankees who ordered them to torture
Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers
Kill them all slowly and painfully

Nice, huh? I guess he won’t be apologizing before he goes to the White House and dines on our taxpayer dime. But Pat sends us a link to the Washington Post which tries to mitigate Psy’s rap by explaining why he did that piece at the time;

The 2004 performance is more complicated. In May of that year, an extremist group led by al-Qaeda’s Abu Musab al-Zarqawi captured a South Korean Christian missionary in Iraq. They demanded that Seoul cancel its plan to send 3,000 troops in support of the U.S.-led invasion and, when South Korea refused, sent a tape of his beheading to Al Jazeera. “Korean citizens, you were warned,” the executioner announced. “Your soldiers are here not for the sake of Iraqis, but for cursed America.”

Koreans again took the streets in protest, first against the terrorists in Iraq, but then against the governments they saw as responsible for putting Koreans in harm’s way. “While most of the peninsula’s fury was directed towards terrorists in Iraq as well as Korean government policy, some anti-US military protesters seized the moment to put forth their cause,” Korea-based journalist Bobby McGill explains. “Once again, PSY was involved. This time he admonished not only the terrorists and then president Roh Mu-hyun, but he also allegedly unleashed a vitriolic condemnation of American military personnel and military brass.” That would be the song “Dear American,” lyrics from which are posted above.

Oh, so terrorists behead a Korean and it’s our fault? That makes perfect sense now. I completely forgive him for wishing slow painful deaths on our troops and their families. Or probably not. The Post goes on to explain about some nationalist policy that had the Koreans’ Kimchi boiling about reconciling the differences between the North & South, something that had absolutely no chance of coming to pass with or without Americans involved.

But apparently we’re supposed to understand this rap rant about slow painful deaths being wished for our troops and their families, and forgive Psy and applaud him and shower him with our consumer dollars because, after all, he’s just an artist being artsy. Personally, I wish him a slow and painful death, along with the rest of his family, as well as the same fate for anyone who ever applauded him or gave him a dime.

And with Obama and Psy in the same building, if I were Bo, I’d be worried about what they plan on serving that night.

ADDED: Apparently Psy has apologized in the Daily News; ” I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted”. I don’t know how many interpretations there could have been to the very explicit lyrics.

I’m with you, Jonn. The lyrics are very clear and unambiguous.

Rather than calling him Psy, I propose we give him an appropriate nickname: “Faq’heem”.

LOL @#1. Lets just take him out behind the latrine and beat the crap out of his ass. Then toss him in the shit hole…ungrateful piece of shit.

Jumpmaster

My father and both of his brothers were in the Korean War and I completed four tours in South Korea. I have a very favorable opinion of Koreans as a people, but this PSY guy can kiss my red, white and blue backside. A lot of good people laid down their lives so that this punk would not have to live under the boot heel of Communism. If he so despises Americans and the Seoul government, let him emigrate to Pyongyang.

Al T.

“allegedly unleashed a vitriolic condemnation of American military personnel and military brass”

And this is different than the Obama administration, how? I think he fits right in.

The Dead Man

#4 The only difference is that sincere or not, he’s apologized. Talking to a Korean friend of mine though, she mentioned he’s always kind of shooting his mouth off.

PALADIN

Ya know i like Korean people, but this little son of a bitch i hate !
Damn i’d like to meet him staright up, and ask the turd to repeat those lyrics to me .
I want to stomp his ass into the dirt !
Little C.S.’er

RaptorFire22

How couldn’t they be interpreted as anti-American? That’s the second dumbest statement I’ve heard this year. The first was Susan Rice on the Libya attack.

@#5- I lived in Seattle for along time. There was always a good reason for an Asian getting his ass kicked back in the ‘hood (South Seattle/Raineer Valley). Mouthing off was usually the numba one reason….Did I tell you those Asian assholes are f’ng crazy? Just saying 8)

The Dead Man

#8 The Korean friend in question probably weighed 80 pounds holding a pair of bricks, soaking wet and counting her backpack in High School. We took her paintballing. Also, it was fun watching her dance with the pig we were disecting and juggling it’s eyeballs too. Definitely scared the other people in class. That said, I was well aware of the fact heh.

Tman

The classic non apology.

“I will forever be sorry for ANY pain I have caused anyone.”

“I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted”

So, basically, the onus of being offended is solely on the offended party, NOT on the one saying the offensive words.

F**k off Psy, and your over exposed music/video (which is the most watched ever on youtube by the way, he earns over 800,000 dollars on residuals alone from that video, without doing anything).

When I was in Korea, waaay back in ’01… an old man who worked on post explained this to me…the older people remember what happened there, and are thankful for the Americans, but the younger generation doesn’t understand and is spoiled.

“Psy” doesn’t get it that if those American troops weren’t there as a deterrence, the DPRK would turn Seoul into flames and have their tanks rolling across the border. then it’s off to the gulag…no more making (shitty) music for you!

RunPatRun

@11, same way I understand things. I was in the ROK before kimchi was invented, early 80’s. 🙂

Martial law was still in effect, curfew etc, and Koreans remembered and understood the threat DPRK posed. Then some liberals thought they could simply get together with the North, sing Kumbaya and everything would be a-okay. That was the creation of the Sunshine Policy. The liberal ROK President responsible for the policy won the Nobel Peace prize. Wait. What? Deja vu. ACK

I compare the idiots of that era and those who feel that way now with some of our Occutards, the extreme ones. Spoiled, a sense of entitlement, and in need of a serious attitude adjustment.

And the heck with those bile spewing writers at the Post…

Ex-PH2

Looks like the little twerp is ‘so sorry’ about his 2004 rant:

If you’re going to beat him up, Paladin, you’re probably bigger than he is.

Tman

Didn’t someone in the military do a parody of PSY’s hit music video?

2-17 Air Cav

First, maybe he’s a Red Sox fan. That could explain it. Second, in the event he’s not, he can jar that apology and bury it in a field somewhere to rot.

Mike

Maybe he should change it to Oppan Pyongyang Style.

Tman

Actually there’s a bunch of parodies of his music by the military:

streetsweeper

Pat…kimche has been around so long that chicken fried dog, barbequed wild pig and boiled rat are delicacies…In ROK that is. Just saying.

streetsweeper

Wait, there were some issues reported in the greater Bay Area. LOL

CI Roller Dude

I was going to say something like:”If it was for the Yankees, the south Koreans would be speaking North Korean….” but I guess it’s all the same.

PALADIN

@13 ExPH2 I’m just damn tired of all these a-holes in the entertainment industry putting the badmouth on this country.
I would love to meet them in the raw with none of their groupies or any of their boys in the hood bullshit, and lay a asskicking on em !
And that pile of manure we have as a President thinks they are great.
Jon’s description of him as an asskissing groupie is right on the money.
This Gangnam asshole would’nt make a pimple on an Americans ass , he’s such a lowlife turd.

MAJ Mike

This is typical of THE WON to invite the current fad to our White House. THE WON never passes up an opportunity to stick HIS thumb in our collective eyes.

Hack Stone

According to the link below, he spent some time growing up in America. One day I just wish that someone with balls would call these assholes bluff. A Koeran entertainer doesn’t want us in South Korea? Great, pull out all US amed forces, rescind all mutual defense treaties, and let them know that they are own their own (politically, financially and militarily) when it comes to the North Korean issue. And it’s nice to see that North Korea is ready to launch some more missiles. And don’t forget Berkely CA. They don’t want Marines “occupying” their city by means of a recruiting office. Next time an earthquake hits, call on Code Pink and Michael Moore to arrive with all of their engineer, medical and communications systems to set up relief efforts.

fnord

Apologized huh? Unless it was a Japanese apology; not accepted!

Ex-PH2

@21, you’re preaching to the choir, man.

I was just pointing out that Skippy the PSy boy is probably a LOT shorter than you are, just in case you want to take your ire out on him.

Gallagher Fan

The Jonn Lilyea Perpetual Outrage Machine keeps on rolling along.

First off, stop feeding your readers misinformation, they’re dumb enough as it is. PSY is not appearing at the White House, he’s performing at the annual Christmas in Washington Charity Concert, which the President is attending. Do you even bother to fully read the articles which you get so cheesed off by?

Secondly, Obama didn’t invite or request PSY to perform there, that was a decision made by the people who run the concert. They likely made this decision ignorant of PSY’s 2004 rant, since prior to a few days ago that rant wasn’t well known outside of Korea. They made this decision based off of PSY’s currently soaring popularity.

Which brings us to my third and most important point. You are aware, are you not, that when you wrote; “Personally, I wish him a slow and painful death, along with the rest of his family, as well as the same fate for anyone who ever applauded him or gave him a dime.”, you were wishing death upon not only many American citizens and their families, but also plenty of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines as well?

Gee Jonn, why do you hate the troops so much?

PALADIN

@GallagherFan Heh ! Heh ! I know who you really are…But a turd is a turd.
You sellin woof tickets ? If ya are , i’m buying !
Now go do something useful…maybe recycle your sandles or something ? :)))))

Hondo

Damn, Gallagher Fan’s mommie is letting him stay up late these days. Then again, yesterday was Saturday – no high school on Sundays.

Maybe one day she’ll teach him about how satire and poetic license work – since he obviously missed that in Jonn’s article above.

And no – I’m not buying PSY’s lyrics Jonn quoted as being either satire or poetic license. The were either a cynical attempt to sound “gangsta tough” while appealing to anti-American elements in South Korea, or were his actual views. In either case, Faq’heem.

Gallagher Fan

Oh, so Jonn was just satirically calling for the deaths of American Troops, Civilians, and their families. Well, in your own words Faq’heem.

Maybe he should take a cue from the Duffel Blog, who keep rejecting his pieces, and just stop.
