Heat in the Middle East

| November 11, 2012

Iran warned the US that they intend to step up shooting at and missing our drones over international air space if it happens again, according to the Washington Times;

“Yes, we opened fire, and it was with warning shots. If they do it again, they can expect an even stronger response,” said Gen. Amir-Ali Hadjizadeh, adding that the drone entered Iranian airspace and “had to turn around because of the immediate reaction by fighters of the Revolutionary Guards.”

John McCain questions the fact that the Administration took almost a week to disclose the details of the engagement;

Mr. McCain drew parallels with the administration’s slowness to answer congressional queries about the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Meanwhile, Israel fired back at Syria went errant mortar rounds landed near an Israeli military base;

“We understand this was a mistake and was not meant to target Israel, and then that is why we fired a warning shot in retaliation,” said Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich, a military spokeswoman. Defense officials said an anti-tank missile was fired, and there were no reports of casualties in Syria.

The Israeli military also said it filed a complaint through United Nations forces operating in the area, stating that “fire emanating from Syria into Israel will not be tolerated and shall be responded to with severity.”

I suppose we should start launching our drones with a pair of radar guided missiles. One pointed forward and one to the rear. Call it “warning shots”.

OWB

Is anyone actually surprised? (At least among the grown ups who have long held the opinion that it is not about if but when.)

JJAK

If Su-25s are their air defense fighters we’ve got nothing to worry about.

UpNorth

They fired “warning shots” at an unmanned aerial vehicle? What’s next, a shot across the bow of a ship that isn’t there?

Your observation that civilization may end where it started is astute…and a bit alarming…but apt.

@10 There is clearly no solving the problem in the middle east unless the Arabs are disarmed or the Jews are dead….there seems to me no actual middle ground….

Ex-PH2

@11 — You got that right.
