SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden; a review

| November 9, 2012

I watched the Harvey Weinstein “documentary” “SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden” so you guys don’t have to. The New York Times was right – it was an Obama campaign commercial. I doubt that it had much impact on the election, but I’m pretty sure that was the intent of the director. Obama narrates much of the movie – interspersed from beginning to end. The movie opens at his inauguration speech and ends at his announcement of the killing of bin Laden. The part that pissed me off most was while he was narrating during the training in the Kill House when he said “We’re going into Pakistan…” like he was going to be a mouse in the SEALs’ pockets.

The killing of bin Laden is at odds with the eye witness account “No Easy Day” written by Matt Bissonnette. Bissonnette wrote that bin Laden stuck his head out of the room he was hiding in while a stack of SEALs was coming down the hallway when he got shot, but the documentary has the SEALs breach his bedroom door and double tap him. The killing of Kahlid bin Laden is at odds with the book, too. The SEALs were repeating his name as a question to each other as to his identity and Kahlid thought they were calling him. In the movie, they were intentionally calling his name to get him to stick his head up.

The movie also muddles Bissonnette’s version when the SEALs immediately know that they killed bin Laden. Bissonnette wrote that it took a few minutes to identify him. So you can believe who you want, but I’ll take Bissonnette’s word over Hollywood.

As far as the quality of the movie, I think it totally sucked. I’d rather watch “Act of Valor” for the fourth time than watch this POS even once more. Besides having to sit through the propaganda again, the acting was horrible and the story contained too much unnecessary BS. Like two SEALs rolling around on the floor and fighting over who should be the leader of the team. WTF?

Just so you know, if you don’t trust my word and want to inflict this movie on your fertile brain, it’s on Netflix. You certainly don’t want to waste any money on it.

Wow, if it was worse than “Act of Valor” it must be truly retched because Act of Valor sucked ass.

Wife and I went to a movie last Friday and I see the posters for “Zero Dark Thirty” are already out.

So when is Obummer awarding himself the MOH?

Watched it on NatGeo the other night. Meh…It was pretty poor. My biggest gripe centers around their gear – it was show room new. No scuffs on their helmets and no sweat stains or dirt on their plate carriers and MOLLE pouches? No rattle can cammo jobs on their weapons? Gimme a break.

The only thing positive I can pull out of this election cycle is the fact that they’re screwed too.

Rich liberals are not, really, of course, but the middle class libs are just as screwed as me.

They’ll regret it. They will have no choice.

In Jesus’ name I pray……

Scouts Out

Martin, totally agree. Act of Valor was a flaming bag of dogshit. I’m looking forward to Zero Dark Thirty. There was a lot of nonsense in Hurt Locker but I still enjoyed it, I’m betting the same for ZDT.

JP

This was tame.

I was expecting the account of his HALO jump into Pakistan, where he fought Bin Laden hand to hand and stabbed him in the neck with his executive pen…then STILL got home in time for golf the next day.

Common Sense

I didn’t watch it, I was too busy, but my eldest son did and he agrees, it sucked. Even without the propaganda aspect, it was just really poorly done. He said the acting and dialog were terrible and a guy from American Pie was in it which made it hard to take seriously for that reason alone.

I liked Act of Valor when it first came out, but I’ve read a dozen first hand accounts from Iraq and Afghanistan and find real life accounts far more compelling than fiction.

I think Zero Dark Thirty should be better. Obama appears nowhere in the movie, it is solely about the raid. The people making it have far more talent as well. I may wait until it’s on Amazon to see it though.

I do look forward to the Lone Survivor movie, if I can get past Mark Wahlberg as Marcus Luttrell. Movie magic is going to have to make him about 10 inches taller.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Thanks for the heads up, that will be a few hours I won’t have to worry about getting back….I wasn’t expecting it to be of real value in any event, glad to hear the film met my expectations and grateful to you for saving me some valuable nap time.

B Woodman

WOW! The NYT panned the movie, and got it right. That’s one in a row.

Rock

Jonn, wow, I can’t believe you managed to sit through the whole movie. You may have infected yourself by watching that movie. Thank’s for risking your sanity for us and giving us the brief synopsis of a crappy movie that I wouldn’t want to watch anyway.

Oh, did it talk about how Obama has PTS now?

headhuntersix

I downloaded and attempted to watch it the other night. Knowing who made,my opinion was already shaded. The dialogue is hokey, they refer to each other at one point as “soldiers”…fist fights amongst each other…..and alot of Bush bashing. It was horrible. It was to bad that Anson Mount chose to be in it.

Drama

It was on last night and I accidently caught the last 15-20 minutes which is when the raid was shown.

From a purely entertainment value it just didn’t have any tension or excitement. Even with all the extra background shooting they through in I felt like it was no big deal, you just didn’t think what’s gonna happen next? It was just weak.
