Marines target of vandals while collecting “Toys for Tots” in TX

| November 9, 2012

Four Marines were targeted by egg-tossing vandals while the Marines were collecting for the Toys For Tots charity on a street corner in San Angelo, Texas. Apparently, the egg-throwing pillars of the community stole the eggs from Walmart and were tossing them at randomly selected victims in the early morning traffic. Of course, the Marines avoided being struck by the missiles, according to the Marine Corps Times;

The incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m., according to San Angelo police. The department received several calls about the occupants of a pickup truck throwing eggs at pedestrians and other vehicles in town.

The pedestrians were the Marines, volunteers for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, who had set up shop at the intersections of Arden Way, Avenue N and Sherwood Way to collect new Christmas toys to be given to less fortunate children in the community.

The truck almost hit one of the Marines as it sped by — and almost collided head-on with another vehicle — before hitting a traffic island a short while later, according to Lt. Mike Hernandez, a police spokesperson.

The driver, Hunter Holbert, 18, was arrested and charged with reckless driving and criminal mischief. Two other 18-year-olds, Brandon Garcia and Taylor White, and an unidentified juvenile male, all passengers in Holbert’s vehicle, were also cited for criminal mischief.

The Marines don’t think they were targeted because of who they are, but that doesn’t change the circumstances. The driver ought to get charged with attempted homicide for nearly running over the one Marine. That would be Texas justice.

A nice 4ss beating would be great too…4 useless j4goffs, throwing sh1t at some of the best of us…

I hope their parents are proud of the useless garbage they have turned loose on our society.

Nik

These scumbags deserve a first-rate beatdown.

Dave

never happen…. I guarantee the parents are in full denial and probably swear that nor only did little Precious not do it, he has been unfairly targeted by the cops ever since he was 14 (and starting his toilet-paper-roll-long rap sheet.) When at Ft. Bliss we called it the “no Mijo” syndrome… no translation needed.

@1. I dare say the parenting skills of the suspects’ families will ever be in question. It’s hard to question something that was never there.

should put the little brats in boot for what they did,might bring on some maturity

@5: I don’t think Mr. Hunter Holbert is the kind of applicant any recruiter wants:

Wow, sounds like a real winner. I hope they give him community service… helping those Marines every day with heavy lifting and hard labor. That will teach him something… hopefully.

@4

Maybe the parents should be charged with “Dereliction of Humanity”. :p

Ex-PH2

Just send them to my house. I have a LOT of work they could do and a nice, unheated metal shed they can sleep in. I’ll make sure they get the same food I give my Mikey — dry cat food and water in the mornings, canned food at night, splitting one can amongst the four offensive – I mean, offenders.

Common Sense

“I hope their parents are proud of the useless garbage they have turned loose on our society.”

I’m sure they’re chips off the ol’ block.

To bad a few minutes with Sam Brown belts and potato sacks. They need some broken bones and scars to remember the event. Semper Fi and Happy Birthday

I graduated from Angelo State University. I don’t know how much San Angelo has grown in the past 20 years, but back in the day, there wasn’t a hell of a lot for teenagers to do. The highlight of Friday and Saturday nights was driving up and down Sherwood Way. I think it’s even more important for parents to find ways to keep their kids out of trouble in a town like that…

Yat Yas 1833

Ms. Ladybug, there is a very simple way to keep kids outta trouble in ANY city/town! Do what my dad did, take off the leather strap he called a belt and whack the h€ll outta us whenever we screwed up and “embarrassed” him. It didn’t take long for us to learn. We didn’t act up n school and we sure as h€ll didn’t act up in our neighborhood because not only would whoever caught us acting up would whack the h€ll outta us, they would call mom and tell her what we were doing, so when we got home, mom would whack the h€ll outta us but the really bad time was when dad got home. He would really whack the h€ll outta us. Those “bad Quintana boys” soon became good athletes and good students. Whacking works!?

Oh, now, YatYas, they just don’t have anything to do.

They need guidance, as in “get your sorry butt busy and clean the house” kind of guidance.

Or this one: “I’d better see that weedwhacker working by the time I get back from the store.”

I like this one, too: “You want your allowance? Try weeding the garden. That was your chore this week. I don’t see a weeded garden.”

And my personal favorite: “You be back here when the street lights go on. Don’t make me come looking for you.”

Yat Yas 1833

Ex-PH2, neither did my brothers and I, we were “hood rats”, the park at 41st Ave & Grant St was for meeting up with girls for “nefarious” reasons. After dad got done with us, we were all involved in sports at school and it kept up through high school and for a couple of us through college. Plenty of things to do. I played footbal, wrestled and played baseball…not much time for anything else…like mischiefeness!

Nik

@18

Allowance? WTF is an allowance? Both my parents are Marines. I was told “This is your job. Do it, or face the consequences for your inaction”.

This was usually followed by the leather strap on butt action Yat Yas described because I was a hard-headed kid.

Ex-PH2

@20 — An allowance is a nelly way of telling your kids if you want money, do these chores and then come see me about getting paid for them. It was my mother’s way of telling us “if you want to eat, you have to work for it because it isn’t free around here”.
Each of us had a list, each chore on the list had a “value”, and if we wanted to get the total amount we had to perform the entire list of chores. I got a nickel a day for setting the table and clearing it off. Feeding the chickens was ten cents, collecting eggs was five cents, and cleaning the chicken house was a quarter.

Miss Ladybug

The other thing that gets me is, from the date of the article, they were doing this at 6am on a school day. How many teenagers do you know that are up and out of the house that early on a school day?

harold

I guess it’s just the ole f$$$ in me, why not take them the Island and turn them into Marines. They already know how to throw grenades.
