Nanny Bloomberg refuses NG help because of their guns
Lorraine and Country Singer send us a link to our buddy, Gateway Pundit, who links to Fox Nation which reports that Nanny Bloomberg rejected help in the recovery of Hurricane Sandy from the National Guard because the only people he wants on the streets of New York with guns is the New York Police Department;
Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.
“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”
Yeah, because if New Yorkers are going to get shot, I guess he wants them shot by local boys.

When did the Guard start doing an armed response for humanitarian relief missions?
The guard can be ordered to not carry guns, and instead solely provide manpower to aid efforts. If they run into violence, they can call the police. Although I’m not a fan of taking away their arms, it’s a reasonable compromise if the mayor wasn’t so concerned about optics and his fiefdom.

It looks like both NYC and NJ have turned away ALL non-union help. Frikkin’ amazing. I hope that both areas take months to get their power and support structure back online, and that the federal Government refuses to give either of them a damned dime for help.
Oh, golly, Bloomerbutt pissed off all the residents of Staten Island when they found that the more affluent areas are getting help while they are being ignored. It was more agita for them, and they voiced their anger about it, when he announced that the NYC marathon was going to be held. They were, in fact, so angry that Bloomerbutt had to retract that announcement and pay attention to actually taking care of the city.
The man is an idiot. The memories of voters are not nearly as short as politicians think they are. Bloomerbutt and Christie (NJ) are making some political mistakes now that will matter down the road.

This is insanity. During Katrina, we were armed but rarely even had to think about our weapons. In the situations when the cops were pinned down by several different shooters, we sent in a sniper team to take down the threat. What now? Call the SWAT team? So the only people he wants to have guns on the streets of NYC are the cops AND the thousands of criminals and gang members.

You get who you vote for. When Bloomberg wanted term limits changed so he could stay in office should have been a warning to the constituency. Instead, they voted for him again.
Christie also signed an executive order designating the hurricane as a “storm” and forcing the insurance companies to drop the hurricane deductible written into their contracts.
By interfering in legal contracts like that, Christie will make ALL premiums go up to cover the loss.
If anyone was ever under the impression that Christie is a limited-government conservative, they are sadly mistaken. And apparently, he was Romney’s first choice for VP! Thank God Romney came to his senses.
Remember during Katrina how Mississippi didn’t have any trouble recovering and rebuilding without all the woe-is-me drama? That’s what you get when you have a competent governor and local officials.
I also find it hilarious (in a sick sort of way) that Obama yet again jetted off to Las Vegas after his little photo op with Christie. It must be his new place to hide during a crisis. Well, only for 2 more days!
@19. The danger isn’t over until January, IF obama gets the boot. Until Romney is sworn in, obama gets to issue executive orders and have his cabinet play the fast-track game with regulations. Then there’s the transfer of information that may harm the country or individual citizens, pardons, and, of course, the 24/7 burn bin.

Some Rockaways residents who work as firefighters in The Bronx and Manhattan were fuming yesterday — sitting idly in their firehouses while their neighbors and family members miles away struggled to get help.

I find Bloomnutz’ level of hypocrisy to be almost Biblical in it’s size. This cretin denies the help from NG troops because they have “guns” YET, he surrounds himself with an armed detail of private bodyguards 24/7.

By the time nanny b-berg is convinced they may need full body armor and close air support. But they will be called in.
there is no food, no water, no heat. Unless you know somebody (ie. firefighters and cops extracting friends and family) there is no way out. No trains, no buses, no fuel (most cars in the coastal areas no longer operational anyway). We are about to exit desperation mode and spiral into anarchy.
Verm, I wish you and yours could be here in the hinterlands. I have heat, food, running car, running water, but am not happy because there is no way I can share it with anyone out there.
There is another big storm coming in a few days, too, and the NYC mayor appears to be as ineffective as you can get.

Having been activated for humanitarian/disaster recovery missions with the National Guard it would be odd to have a weapon issued. Civil disturbance maybe, disaster recovery no. If they are it would have been a decision made at the state level. I am guessing Nanny Bloomberg is just assuming they would have weapons and is making a political statement regardless if it hurts the citizens of his city or not.
Bloomberg never served in the military…. when the draft was on (pre-Vietnam). I remember a guy by the name of Elvis served.
The only thing I’ll respond to is the following in this case. I’m a new New Yorker, but luckily I live upstate and we didn’t get hit very badly at all:

NG aren’t “federal” manpower, they are a state resource. But at the same time, this is considered a “federal” disaster area correct? So he’s going to get federal assistance, whether he wants it or not.
I think NY needs Giuliani back, big time…
