Surprise! Afghanistan won’t be ready in 2014

| November 2, 2012

Stars & Stripes reports that the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction claims that the Afghans aren’t going to have the capabilty to assume responsibility for their own security when the US plans to withdraw in 2014;

“The SIGAR report provides yet another indication that the ANSF will be at least two years away from being able to handle security on its own at the end of 2014, that we may leave Afghanistan without the aid funds to avoid an economic crisis to depart, that insurgent influence is still growing in many areas, and Afghan politics and governance are almost as much of a threat to mission success as the enemy,” he said.

Ahmad K. Majidyar, a senior researcher for the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative Washington think tank, said without continued international troop presence and robust international funding after 2014, Afghanistan can’t sustain the ANSF.

“We have to continue to support the Afghans with logistics and airpower,” Majidyar said. “These are two problems where the ANSF cannot become self-sufficient by the end of 2014, or for many years after that.”

So, I figure if they aren’t ready in two years, why invest any more money in them? They’ve wasted eleven years of our investments on piddly-ass bullshit and complaining about how we fought the war…cut ’em loose now. This administration, and I suspect a Romney Administration, as well, won’t ever be committed to any sort of victory in Afghanistan and the Afghans are more interested in milking us for more money, all the time undermining the efforts of our troops. Screw ’em. Wave goodbye.

Shoot, the United States military can be in Afghanistan for a hundred years and these people will still be clueless.

It is beyond obscene that after over a decade over there in that god forsaken land, billions upon billions spent, coalition forces injured, maimed, and killed, that many of the security forces cannot even do a simple jumping jack.

The fact is they will NEVER be “ready” in the conventional sense that we think.

They never wanted to be “ready.” They just wanted to milk the gravy train while karzai and his cronies got filthy rich with corruption. Content to pick up a paycheck while coalition troops took the brunt of the fighting and casualties.

F**k them.

The Afghan people asked the Taliban to help them drive out the USSR in the 1990s, which they did. But they stuck around and turned the Afghan economy into a shambles, basically destroying that country in every possible way. So the Afghan government asked the USA to help drive out the Taliban, which we did. AFter we left, the Taliban moved right back in. a; Qaeda followed, and it’s been a mess ever since.

I think we’ve ‘helped’ them out all we need to. Time to cut line and run.

Screw ’em. Unless the next president hits the restart and goes in loaded for bear, we should be out of there yesterday!

Keeping American troops in AFG and throwing money at the problem offers about as much promise as sending people to the moon to fill in the craters and make it habitable. Karzai wants the U.S. out, so let it be his problem (not that he’ll stay there anyway, considering his bankroll will allow him to live in exile anyway).
