Not everyone in DC is hiding from the rain

| October 29, 2012

They closed federal offices today in DC in preparation for the heavy rain that will finally wash away the filth covering the city, but meanwhile, Specialist Brett Hyde was walking his post, doing what you pay him to do.

The caption of the above photo reads;

Spc. Brett Hyde, Tomb Sentinel, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), keeps guard over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during Hurricane Sandy at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., Oct. 29, 2012. Hyde lives by the Sentinel’s Creed which in part says “Through the years of diligence and praise and the discomfort of the elements, I will walk my tour in humble reverence to the best of my ability”. (U.S. Army Photo by Sgt. Jose A. Torres Jr.)

There are more pictures at the 3rd Infantry Regiment’s Facebook page.

Outstanding.

NSOM

It’s almost as if they’re Marines.

OWB

Now THERE is the role model for America.

Bless all of them.

2-17 Air Cav

Yes, OWB, and did you notice that sharp and pointy thing attached to his rifle?

Ex-PH2

We need more like him.

OWB

Yeppers!

Jumpmaster

It makes me proud to say that I was in the United States Army with SOLDIERS like this. HOOah!

Biermann

With much respect, Salute!

Flagwaver

That is honor. And NSOM, they are almost Marines… but they can think outside the box without requiring a box in the vicinity. 😛

Just kidding, brother. All the forces are filled with these dedicated individuals. Duty before self.

He who walks that post guards all of our nation’s Fallen who are known but to God, wherever their mortal remains may be.

Ex-PH2

The Old Guard members have also been filling and depositing sandbags ahead of the storm.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

HAND SALUTE … READY TO.

Here’s a picture I received earlier today from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Crap, sorry about the link … I have problems posting pics here.

Dust in my eyes. . . .
Well done soldiers.

NHSparky

God bless them all.

And a link, but take your blood pressure meds and remove all sharp/heavy objects out of reach first:

Read some of the comments in that thread. Yes, there are people in this world who are THAT fucking stupid.

The Dead Man

#16 The DU thread is… surprising me. They’re outright banning people bashing the soldiers and the grave site and more than a few are arguing amongst themselves. Still a lot of stupid floating about though.

NHSparky

True, some are defending the Old Guard soldiers at the Tomb, but enough of them are bashing them and our troops in general. Far too many, in fact.

Am I questioning your patriotism, DU? Fuckin A, I am.

NSOM

I love DU. It reveals the true Progressive mindset. It’s a place they feel among their own, where they’re able the let the mask slip and reveal their true selves, guarded by an Internet handle.

The Dead Man

#18 No doubt there, but compared to their norm? It was outright shocking. I still couldn’t make it to the end of the thread without contemplating blunt-force trauma induced amnesia though. (Read as beating my head into the desk)

Isnala

Agree with most the DU thread is in need of some blunt force trama. The pick on the other hand is worth swiping.
