Romney files lawsuit in Wisconsin for military voters
Poetrooper sent us a link to an article in the Daily Caller in regards to a lawsuit that the Romney campaign filed against the state of Wisconsin to insure that they allow military ballots to be returned since 30 of the state’s municipalities failed to mail absentee ballots in the time frame mandated by federal law.
“Because members of the military are often stationed in remote, dangerous, frontline locations, there is a substantial likelihood that the defendants’ violations of law will prevent military voters from receiving, completing, and returning their ballots in time to have them counted,” the lawsuit filed Friday reads. “The defendants’ unlawful conduct therefore may effectively disenfranchise the very men and women who make daily sacrifices to protect our system of democratic government.”
Please don’t bother to preach to me that this is a campaign ploy for both military votes and because Romney is fairly certain that those military votes will be for him. I know that. I’m not hard of smelling.
But, it should be the Justice Department filing lawsuits against the state to insure that military votes are counted, because, you know the Justice Department is supposed to be defending the rights of all Americans, not just Democrat-voting Americans. According to the DC article, the Justice Department did file a lawsuit against Vermont – you know, Vermont with it’s 3 electoral votes. So they can hide behind that.
Wisconsin says that there were only 44 ballots mailed late, but the Romney campaign says they’d fight this if it was only one ballot. Well, at least we know what a Romney Administration would do about military voting. And we know what a second Obama Administration would do.

“But, it should be the Justice Department filing lawsuits against the state to insure that military votes are counted, because, you know the Justice Department is supposed to be defending the rights of all Americans, not just Democrat-voting Americans”. The DoJ would have filed suit, Jonn, but they were busy making sure every illegal, felon and dead person can vote multiple times, they have no time for military voters.
oBAMa weally, weally woves the militerry. He weally does. So, does nanCy pawoezi. They both said so at the VFW, wemember?
@ 2-17 AirCav: of course they do, because they “said” so – over and over again..
And honestly? Anybody really expect THIS DoJ to be doing the job of working for ALL Americans? Their history shows otherwise.
This election will not be over on November 6, not by a long way…
Good for the Romney campaign, but I think the real problem with military ballots is that the kids just don’t care about voting.
I talked to my son this weekend. I already knew that his class at tech school made fun of him because he cares about current events and the election. But he also told me that he is the only one in his class planning to vote.
If young adults who’ve made a commitment to the military don’t care about voting, what does that say for those in college or just out in the world? Not much.
Politics aside, good for him.

The DoJ is probably also making sure that the New Black Panthers who will be Democrat poll watchers this year all have crisp new uniforms and shiny black batons.
UN (@1): You have to admit the cemetary constituency is bigger than the Military vote. Hell, for that matter, the illegal alien vote is multiple times bigger than the military vote. I understand even Mickey Mouse plans on voting this year, once or thrice.
Soldiers who wanted to and cared could have asked for ballot information in July, and had plenty of time to vote. Those that didn’t care didn’t request ballots. It’s everyone’s individual responsibility to vote and manage their own status. I tried, and my voting assistance officer tried,(to motivate troops) but many soldiers didn’t request ballots and did not vote in my unit. Most non voters were either apathetic or thought their votes did not matter due to electoral college.
@8, For some of us due to the electoral college our votes really don’t mean much. I did vote, but my State with it’s whopping 3 electoral votes gets counted second to last and the election is already decided by then. Why do you think nobody campains in Alaska.
I get it, Jonn. Frankly, I only care that the military gets counted. If Romney is the smarter of the candidates and Obama et al want to snub voters and let people break the law…so be it.
Romney is the man in this case…be watching for the Automaton known as Obama to have empty eyes and rote answers in comparison to Romney, tonite. Are you going to live blog? 🙂
They brought ballots out to our firebase in the middle of the Au Shau and had everyone of us vote. Whether they counted them or not no one knows, but the army made the effort. I felt good about the process, but can’t remember who I voted for. Some guy wrote in Ho Chi Minh and about two weeks latter he was whisked off to MI never to be seen again which was probably his intent.
Twist: don’t be so quick to downplay your vote’s impact, or a small state’s impact in the electoral college.
Your vote counts proportionally more in a small state. And had AK, ND, ID, MT, NH, NV, SD, or WY “flipped” with to the 2000 presidential election, we’d either have had a different outcome or a REALLY interesting outcome. (How does 269-268 with one faithless elector sort out?)
And no, insipid – Gore lost in 2000. That’s 12-year-old history. Get over it.
