Insider attack foiled

| September 24, 2012

The Washington Times reports that for the first time since these egregious green-on-blue attacks began years ago, they’ve finally stopped one before anyone was hurt Friday;

The planned strike, by two “known insider attack facilitators,” was to include homemade bombs, the recruitment of insurgent fighters and the attempted infiltration of Afghan security forces, the officials said.

The two men had planned several operations throughout Logar province, but this was the first time they had planned an insider attack, according to coalition spokesman Army Maj. Adam Wojack.

NATO forces had conducted surveillance on the two men for several days, Maj. Wojack said.

The article goes on to say that they’ve also apprehended another suspect along with the first two. Major Womack is quoted as saying “The safety of our troops is paramount” and I agree completely, in fact I said those very same words in the Huffpost interview I did the other day. It’s nice to see the commanders in Afghanistan get pro-active on this issue finally.

Funny how paying attention to shit gets results isn’t it?

Murdoc

I can say first hand that everything was done to prevent the same types of event that happen to us over here.

I am incredulous at the ready admission that this is the first ever insider attack that was stopped. The flip side is that every insider attack but one was successful. Wow. Makes me wonder about the authenticity of the report that this one was stopped. I hope it’s true but given obama’s current pickle, I would not be shocked to learn that the administration got the word out that it would like to know if an insider attack is stopped and that the word was received (This happened Friday?),um, last Wednesday or Thursday.

Murdoc #2: I dunno; I can’t argue from any personal A’stan experience, but it seems to me there would be a LOT more dead bad guys than good guys if what you say is accurate.

@3 I agree that it’s hard to believe this is the first one stopped. However, I’m currently in Logar province and can vouch that through the good work of a lot of talented people we were able to identify and stop the attempt.
