Rivera apprehended at Canadian border
BBC reports that Kimberly Rivera, who we’ve been anxiously waiting to return and face her punishment, has turned herself in at the border crossing near Fort Drum, NY. But let’s look at the BBC article, shall we?
Kimberly Rivera, a mother of four, had claimed refugee status in Canada, but she was ordered to leave last month.
Yeah, she’s a mother of four, but two of those children were born in Canada since she defected. So being a mother of four shouldn’t get her much sympathy when we realize that the children were created to strengthen her claim as a refugee. And is she really a refugee? How many women have been excused from deployment when they simply applied? I’m sure there were a lot. I know of a few by name.
On Thursday she voluntarily went to a border crossing in New York State, where she placed into military custody, anti-war campaigners say.
She faces between two and five years in prison, her lawyer said.
Um, no she went to the border station because Canada threw her big ass out, hardly voluntarily. Maybe she wasn’t escorted by Canadian authorities, but it wasn’t of her own free will. Even in the article, BBC says that the two men who’ve been imprisoned for the same offense only sent a year locked up, so how can they say “between two and five years” with a straight face?
Ms Rivera served in the Iraq war in 2006, but on her return to the US said she had become disillusioned with its cause and thought it was “immoral”.
She went to Canada with her husband and children while on leave and between deployments in 2007.
No, she wasn’t “between deployments”. The Army let her go home on leave WHILE she was deployed to Iraq and instead of returning to Iraq, she absconded to Canada and left her fellow soldiers in Iraq short handed and probably at least delayed their own leaves at mid deployment. She’s, in the parlance of the day, a “Blue Falcon”.
As I explained earlier today, her obese and extremely lazy husband got moody as she got closer to the time she had to return to Iraq and complete her deployment and that’s what made her go AWOL, not some sudden disillusionment with the war, like the Beeb says. You’d think that BBC would get at least part of the article correct. And I wonder how many of those 200 they claim deserted and absconded to Canada were like Corey Glass who went to Canada, applied for refugee status even though he’d been discharged from the Army months before he went to Canada and wasn’t even a deserter?

I’d give long odds her comrades-in-arms were quite happy to see the back of her and were happier yet to learn they wouldn’t have to continue pulling her dead weight. Well-liked, trusted, productive troops aren’t generally the ones who pull this shit.

Been a while, though. Last times we did that were in the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Relations since then have worked out fairly well. (smile)

The headline for this post is wrong! She wasn’t “apprehended”, she was ROPED!?
Something tells me Rivera’s not so elegant discharge is already filled out and waiting on a Warrant Officers desk for her signature. Something else tells me, Rivera may not see much jail time if any at all. Then she can make her way back to the great province of Ontario, Au Canada and resume living among the far left loons inhabiting that province.

I cant believe readers of this blog will think she’ll stay in Canada after the dispensation of her case. As soon as jail time is over she will round up the children and rumble back across to the Good Ol’ U. S. of A.
@16 – You’re right Jeff, she’ll end up back in Mesquite, TX and will be Dallas County’s problem. No need to get back to Canada, unless she needs to get the suede couch. Not sure she’ll be well received back in TX, but it’ll be curious to see if this story comes full circle and she ends up working at Wal-Mart again after it’s all said and done. Wouldn’t that be ironic? (Yes, I know – Wal-Mart probably wouldn’t hire her back after receiving a less than honorable discharge, but we’ll have to wait and see).

I am not making light of a very real problem. And those that involve themselves in that type of behavior should be punished to the full extent.
But more and more I see women claiming that to either get paid or get over. And in our PC world, you cannot say anything about it.

Perhaps now she will actually be responsible for what she agreed to.
My daughter is married with a small child and has never failed to deploy and serve the nation as agreed to her in contract with the Air Force Reserve. Having children does not excuse your obligation or your duty, and teaching your kids to be a scumbag deserter hardly qualifies as great parenting. My grandson is learning his mom honors her commitments and can be relied on to do the right thing when it matters.
Too bad the Rivera kids are not learning the same lessons.

In her case, I’d call that a wash.
As my lovely wife prepares our Sunday morning breakfast, I was pondering how Rivera might be doing in custody. I imagine she is at Fort Drum. Ordinarily based on simple Navy math and her appearance I suspect she would have consumed 36 meals since her capture. However since most Soldiers eat 3 rounded meals a day, her meal intake has been reduced by approximately 2/3. She should be quite fit for her courts martial procedings.
I found out what happened to the suede couch. Turns out without the financial support she was getting from PVT Rivera, she had to turning tricks on the street.
