Did Iraqis on trial in KY kill soldiers in Iraq?

| August 17, 2012

The Associated Press reports that a group of Pennsylvania soldiers suspect that the two Iraqis on trial in Kentucky for planning to aid al-Qaeda in Iraq may have been responsible for the deaths of their mates while they were operating in Iraq;

[Waad Ramadan Alwan] told a confidential informant working for the FBI that as part of his work he filled roadside bombs with ball bearings, nails, even gravel, and drew diagrams to show how it is done. He also bragged about repeatedly killing Americans in Iraq, saying he was very good with a sniper rifle and that his “lunch and dinner would be an American.”

Alwan told an FBI informant in Bowling Green last year that prior to one Humvee explosion, he had planted improvised explosive devices near a Bayji street detour.

Both the Iraqis and the soldiers described the area as the main road used by American convoys in Bayji.

The Pennsylvania National Guard’s Alpha Company of the First Battalion of the 111th Infantry, which included [Staff Sgt. Joshua Hedetniemi], lost six soldiers in two separate roadside attacks in the area in August 2005.

I guess an important question would be how these two dirt balls ended up in the US;

Alwan and Hammadi each immigrated to the United States in 2009 after gaining refugee status. Court records do not explain why they were granted that status. For reasons that are also unclear from court records, the FBI started a probe of Alwan in August 2010, using a confidential informant to record conversations with Alwan about a plan to send money and weapons to a fictional al-Qaida operative in Iraq.

Well, I think we need to get that sorted out and end the practice that led to allowing two criminals like that into our country.

The Pennsylvania soldiers say that they remembered the names from their operations in Iraq and were surprised to find news accounts of their arrests;

“I was a little bit worried these guys could get into our country so easily,” said Hedetniemi, who now works as a recruiter. “Luckily, these guys never got a chance to do anything stupid.”

Yeah, I think the government owes us an explanation for that. I mean it’s good that we caught them and will be able to give them measure of punishment, but they shouldn’t have been here in the first place, and we need to quickly plug the holes in our policies that would allow it to happen again.

I could make this an indictment of the POTUS’ policies toward musilims in specific and immigration in general, but I will not. Let me just say this: These two jihaddis got through back in 2009, how many more have slipped in since?

OldSoldier54

Sounds like somebody may have not been doing their job. With bureaucrats, who knows?

Considering that the refugee application process takes several months at best [unless one is a Terp or translator], it is not a sure bet that the current Administration would be indicted.

The missing link of information is when TEDAC explouted the IED material and fingerprint from the 2005 event in Bayji…and why it could have taken so long to get that information to DoS.

Years ago there was a Mark Steyn column in which he brought out the fact that there was a 9/11 hijacker whose immigration application was approved just a few months after the attack. Apparently his name raised no red flags, neither did the fact that his plan was to come to the U.S. to study at the same flight school as the hijackers. Bear in mind that his was in an era of heightened security.

We are so totally hosed!

Did Nazi Soldiers get tried for killing US Soldiers? Just curious on the precedent here.

SIGO-some did, depending on the circumastance. Those who wore other than German uniforms (and were caught doing so) were generally shot. A different (and in this way at least, better) world.

Why bother with the process of getting here on a visa or anything? Grab a flight to Mexico, and cross the border to the U.S. Not like there’s much checking going on at the border.

UpNorth, I was reading that Border Patrol stopped a group of illegals in Texas who didn’t speak Spanish… they spoke Arabic. They were ordered to release them, as if they were detaining a bunch of Mexicans…

Who knows how many slithered into the country since 9/11. I mean, we are the ONLY country in the world who openly opposes securing our own border due to racial discrimination of non-native populations!

Guys, what comrade obama is doing is bringing down the United States an illegal at a time. Living in Arizona, I see, daily, what is happening. Hispanics, Asians, Africans, Middle Easterners, etc are all pouring through my border with Mexico. Luckily Gov. Brewer is fighting back. The “beloved leader” has given “dreamers” amnesty but Gov. Jan has issued an order to deny ANY illegal any type of government benefits. You guys hear about it on the news, I, and my family, live it. Recently there was a “coyote” “drop house” shoot out in my daughter’s $250,000 a home neighborhood. I used to keep all my weapons in my brother’s gun safe. Now my Colt .45 and Remington .308 are in my house which is about a mile from my daughter’s house. I can be there in 81 seconds!

Comrade Obama has also deported more illegal immigrants than any of his predessesors [recent at least].

What’s Comrade Romney’s plan?

Miss Ladybug

But what is the percentage, CI? I might suggested deportations are up strictly because there is a marked increase in illegal immigration, not because Obama is any better at border security…

CI

@11 – That’s a good question, one might think that Obama’s political opposition would be able to make a case if this Administrations were delinquent on border security compared to his peers. Frankly Obama hasn’t been any better than anyone else.

We’ve had a succession of ineptitude and complacency spanning several Administrations, and with Romney’s lack-of-a-plan border plan….I don’t expect that to change.

Devtun

Invasion USA – reconquista of former Mexican territories, without a shot being fired. Border Patrol also stunned by volume of non Mexicans they are capturing – namely Middle Eastern, Indian, Chinese.

There is a great show “Border Wars” from National Geographic channel. If you have Netflix you can stream it.

The Dude

@9 Now all we need to do is teach you how to shoot.

UpNorth

Oh, look up at #14, someone left a turd on the floor, again.

If this is true, where is HS?
