OK, let’s see how far-ranging our readership actually is…
Anyone know a good English Speaking driver in Dakar, Senegal?
OK, I guess not.
Anyone know anyone IN SENEGAL? Dude can run a fruit stand for all I care.

I did, but he was eaten by a lion.
You might ask around among the baggage handlers and concierge at the Denver Airport. Seriously. Of the four we dealt with, all were fron the African continent, although I don’t recall any of them mentioning Senegal, specifically.
Wave a 50 over your head when you get there. You’ll have all the English speaking friends you need.
@2 ROFLMAO,
I have a good friend who is a Major in the Army who spent a year in Dakar. I can point him this way and see if he can help out.
English isnt too common in Dakar as its a former french colony but you can find some english-speakers there. At the airport you find a swarm of 50-100 taxi drivers claiming to speak english but can only manage a couple phrases. Will you need the driver for just getting to the hotels or are you going further inland? The major hotels (Radisson Blu, Pullman, Terrou-Bi) have concierges that speak english and can arrange drivers to pick you up from the airport.
Dakarois- I need to get further inland. I am told it is about a 4 hour drive. But, I will have the $$$. I was told the hotels are a good place to start. Any of them you recommend over others? Doesn’t need to be the Ritz, but something that caters to us pale faces and speaks English would be awesome.
Thanks for the info!
I went to AIT with a 1LT Jupiter Balde from Senigal. I could see if I could dig up his email if you really want
Don’t tell me that you’re picking up that check you’ve been paying “processing fees” for over two years now.
I once spelled Senegal correctly in a grade school spelling bee.
I am in Senegal right now! Not much of an Engrish speaker tho.
Senegal is a long way from Spring Branch, TX, COB6.
I am a member of Beret Vert Brotherhood, a group of Vets formed in Europe by mostly ex-French Foreign Legion. Be glad to as them as they have extensive time in Africa.
that would be “be glad to ask them” if you want. They are always happy to help Vets.
email me if your serious, they may have buddies in country now and can put you in touch
My friends were just there a couple weeks ago as part of a USMC exercise.
I do. Seriously.
You guys are awesome. Somewhat amazingly, I think I actually managed to get the exact right person from a contact through Facebook. But I am now super impressed.
COB6, are you really there? Does this mean I can finally meet you?

The Radisson Blu has a free shuttle service from the airport and all of their employees speak English fairly well. Now getting through the carnage at the airport is a different story.
I tracked down an ex-French Foreign Legion who lives in Senegal and speaks english. Mail me and I’ll put you in touch. He will look after you.
