Gallup: Americans most confident in military
Early last month, the folks at Gallup polled Americans about which institutions in this country they have confidence, and the military leads them all, as they have every year except one (1997) since 1989;
I guess for Americans to have confidence in what you do, it has to be something that you do successfully. Notice the last few choices.

Hey does anyone know when the term battle buddy came into common use in the Army?
So many have so little confidence in the presidency, organized labor and public schools, yet we hear most how important they are and how they do so much for you. Awkward.
That explains why we only see Stolen Valor…. And we don’t see anyone masquerading as Congressmen…
Battle Buddy: It came in about the mid 90s? That was after all the aberdeen and drill sergeants “scandal” where Drills were getting it on with trainees. So, they changed the rules in Tradoc 350-6 that all IET Soldiers would have a “battle buddy” with them at all times, especially when conversing with Cadre. So by the time 9/11 rolled around it was pretty heavily in use.
Good policy for sure, definitely helps keep IET Cadre out of hot water, though sometimes they get into it because they think that a piece of ass is worth 20-30 years (career + prison time).
I could be wrong, but that’s when I understood it to happen.
As far as the confidence list…Fuckin’ A.
Though, they claim to have almost no confidence in Congress, yet they re-elect many of the same duds (90%+ reelection rate in congress since the 80s?). So, I’m not sure how that factors in.
Congress should have term limits just like the President. But, if they did that, they’d actually lose their power after a few years and not get so many lobbyists and businesses kissing their asses. (It wouldn’t be about having to find a real job, their pension is obscene)
It’s been a long-standing truism about politics that people think their own Congressmen are great, it’s everybody else that’s the problem.
Our military deserves the confidence of our people, because their performance, over a bunch of years and in many, many different instances, has been absolutely stellar.
And when somebody messes up, they investigate, tell the whole story, and set it right.
I love how there is substantially more confidence in the church and police than the POTUS and congress. The best part to me is that these two groups are probably almost as vilified as the army and still beat out the media Saint Obama.
There isn’t a single institution on this list that would have gotten a “great deal/quite a lot” rating out of me.
I can’t believe police is high on the list, they must not live where i live. lol, police around here means “guys who sleep in parking lots, and harass you in between naps”
#7 and I thought I was a cynic.
I’m not surprised, though I kind of want to see where and if Credit Unions would be rated differently than banks.
