Wisconsin stolen valor criminal released from charges

| July 2, 2012

Gary Spors, a 28-year man in West Salem Wisconsin is a happy man today, because the Supreme Court says stealing valor from veterans isn’t a crime, so prosecutors dropped charges against the fool who showed up at his local Maple Leaf parade two years ago wearing major’s rank, a CIB (of course) and parachutist wings (of course). Spors has never served a day in uniform according to Twin Cities.com;

The case had been on hold pending the high court’s ruling and will be dismissed, said Myra Longfield, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Wisconsin’s western district.

That’s OK, because we’ll be hearing from Mr. Spors again, I’m sure. As Doug Sterner is fond of telling us, Stolen Valor is only a symptom of sociopathic behavior. So when Spors rapes a teenage girl, or something else that we’ve seen these Stolen Valor guys do, I guess we can heap it on the Supreme Court’s epiphany from the good idea fairy.

But the law still stands that actually stealing goods, services, or money from someone or entity while using lies about military participation or awards remains illegal!

No doubt, the parade orginizers are out advertisement, fuel, and personal funds to ride this turd through their town.

Ok, call me confused. I thought the SCOTUS decision was to freedom of speech only. I thought wearing medal and awards (not to mention rank) that you did not earn was still condsidered illegal. Did I miss the memo somewhere?

SGT. Black

It’s a bs decision bought and paid for by the phonies that don’t want to be outed that are in our congress and other offices of high authority… just a theory. This chaps my Cavalry ass!

Can you plead “Stolen PTSD”? Just curious.

USMC Steve

I have asked this before and no one ever answers to it. Is it not a federal crime to impersonate a commissioned officer?

Elric

It is a crime in the UCMJ. Not sure how that translates into the civilian world.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

In Massachusetts it’s a state offense to wear a military uniform you are not authorized to wear, and possessing military property (medals, etc..) is also a crime…section 99 of the mass criminal code provides punishment for such activities as $300 and/or six months in jail…not much in the way of punishment but should deter some idiots here in the commonwealth…

So if I lie and say I have a MOH for example, that is free speech, but if I lie to a federal agent (not under oath) that is not free speech and a crime?

Ex-PH2

@8 Jonathan, I can only hope that you never run into Jethro Gibbs.

SSG Medzyk

Jonathan, if you lie about the MOH and accept gratuities because of the lie, that’s still very much illegal.

If you go to a bar and tell others you have the MOH and subsequently get your ass stomped by those who know better, that is not illegal….

….but encouraged 🙂

Title 10 USC covers the uniform, starting with section 771. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/771

Mr Spores (misspelling intentional, the fungus!), needs to start getting home before dark. Otherwise someone might be giving him some wall-to-wall counceling in a back alley some dark night. I’d love to be there to take the before & after pix.

Hondo

Jonathan Lubecky: actually, under 18 USC 1001 that is correct. False statements to Federal agents made during an investigation or while said Federal agents are performing their official duties are indeed illegal, whether or not the person making the statement has been sworn or read their rights.
