Phony MP pulls over real cop

| June 22, 2012

Someone dropped off a link to us on Facebook about Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni who pulled over a motorist for speeding in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, there were two problems; Mastrogiovanni isn’t a cop and the guy he pulled over was a cop;

Prince George’s County Police say 29-year-old Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni, of the 900 block of Eastham Court, was driving a white pickup truck on southbound Route 301 when he attempted to stop the Capitol Height Police Officer in his personal vehicle around 4:09 p.m.

The off-duty officer identified himself as being a Capitol Heights Police Officer to Mastrogiovanni who, in turn, said he was a military police officer from Louisiana and advised the officer that he was speeding.

The officer then told the suspect that he had no jurisdiction. He also informed him that having blue and red emergency equipment installed on his truck was illegal in the state.

Mastrogiovanni reportedly then fled the scene at Route 301 and Trade Zone Avenue.

Here’s his official-looking Nissan police truck;

Yeah, I would have pulled over just so I could steady my aim.

The Atlantic Wire reports that there other police impersonators out there;

WRAL, a local North Carolina station, reported four similar impersonators running traffic stops back in April, and robbing their victims. It pops up elsewhere, too, as in a February Houston Chronicle story about a suspected police impostor running traffic stops but not robbing the victims, just criticizing some woman’s driving. Talk about a power trip!

North Carolina passed a law several years ago in response to a fake Cop pulling over women and raping them. If you are pulled over-driving to a well lit area is not considered trying to evade,and if it’s an unmarked car-call 911 and verify that you are being pulled over by legitimate LE and request a marked car be sent. it also made Blue Lights illegal to be installed/used in anything other than a legitimate LE vehicle.

OWB

Oh, to have had a video of this! Priceless.

Eggs

They just busted a couple of knuckleheads here in Tucson for that.

Cakmakli

Finally, a poser picked my MOS. Why anyone would want to I have no idea.

CI Rollder Dude

I always travel armed, I think I would have pulled out my real badge and held the dumbshit for my buddies.

Hondo

CI Roller Dude: not a good idea in MD even if you’re visiting LE. Maryland has some of the most restrictive laws in the country re: firearms in vehicles. And many jurisdictions are very anti-gun and might not cut even visiting LE a break. In particular, Prince George’s County MD (where this occurred) has a reputation as being hugely liberal and anti-gun.

HA! The dumb son of a bitch. Ship his ass off to FLCCB, let him bust rocks while the civie cop he T/S’d pulls guard duty while myself, Cakmakli and few dozen more initiate his ass into the real MP’s. lol.

Skepticus

Most cops drive like drunken idiots anyway but that poser is even worse.

Badger

Hondo, unless it has been repealed (I don’t believe it has), CI Roller Dude would be covered under the National Right To Carry law signed by President Bush. It allows active or retired LE officers to carry in every state.

UpNorth

You’re correct, Badger. It’s the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act. An LEO, even retired, can even carry in Illinois, which chaps the ass of the asses in power in Illinois.

Hondo

Wasn’t aware of that law, Badger & UpNorth. Thanks. Now if we can just get that right upheld for the remainder of the population . . . .

However, I still wouldn’t recommend trying what CI Roller Dude suggested. As it read it, that law gives LEOs and retired LEOs the right to carry nationwide – but not the right to perform apprehensions outside their home jurisdiction. While you apparently couldn’t be prosecuted for simply possessing the firearm, drawing and pointing it at someone where you had no legal authority to apprehend (e.g., outside your home jurisdiction) could IMO still land you in a world of trouble. Best to not take that chance.

D’oh!

Gee, I thought those things only happened in Chicago in the 1980s and ’90s, and they stopped after a while. So it’s starting up again?
Glad for the heads up.
The REAL police told us when it used to happen:
– do not stop for unmarked cars,
– find a well-lit place,
– stay in the car,
– have the cell phone on speed dial for 911,
– do not roll the window down or get out of the car,
– keep your doors locked,
– keep the engine running
– and above all, DEMAND to see an ID.
All of this applies now.
I would add, if you see a gun, get help, put the car into gear and try to run the bastard down.

UpNorth

All good points, in #13, but, if you can get your car, SUV or pick-up in gear, floor it and leave. Bullets won’t be stopped by any vehicle’s sheet metal. And, what Thunder said in #1. Call and demand a marked unit be sent right away, before you even stop.

David

There was a guy recently doing this in Fayetteville, targeting vehicles with DoD decals on their vehicles.

Ex-PH2

#14-UPNorth, if you can aim accurately when you’re being chased by a VERY angry old lady in a 4X4 (me), you’re an excellent shot.
And I should have said “keep engine running and car in Neutral, which is next to Drive”. Also should have included “be willing to wreck car to save self”.

UpNorth

All good points, PH. Unlike thousands on the road at any given time, you have a plan of action.

Tali

Makes you wonder what the Navy is going to do to this douche once the civilians are done with him.
