USMC expanding urination investigation
Yeah, I guess it’s because NCIS is bored and there aren’t worse things happening in Afghanistan (AP/Stars & Stripes link);
In disclosing that a follow-up probe is under way, Marine spokesman Col. Sean D. Gibson said he could not provide details of the possible misbehavior or say what prompted the decision to widen the probe. He said the follow-up began May 15 and is to be completed by mid-June. It is headed by a Marine colonel.
“There are indications of other possible misconduct involving the unit depicted in the video that requires another investigation,” Gibson said.
I know Gibbs and DiNozzo are just drooling at the thought of more so-called war crimes to solve. And we all know that AP is already speculating what it could possibly be, so they can start some rumors;
Another official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way, said the new inquiry is focused on possible additional misconduct by some of the four Marines shown in the video as well as others in the same unit.
The behavior in question apparently happened around the same time as the depiction of the Marines urinating.
I heard the LA Times is already putting feelers out for more of Uncle Jimbo’s gardening pictures, too.

I do believe NCIS could find much better to do with their time unless they’re actually allied with the Tallywhackers/assorted muzzies and working for them instead of the US.
IMO, this is another good argument against photographing anything that’s remotely questionable while deployed. These days, anything questionable (and non-PC) WILL be investigated. Bet on it.
Photographs are not only documentary evidence. They also give those bent on conducting “fishing expeditions” a clue as to where to start fishing.
Guys/gals: if you wouldn’t want your mom or pastor to see it, don’t photograph it. It can come back to bite you in the ass bigtime.
Did they not take the Lessons Learned from Abu Ghraib to heart?
Namely, NO CAMERAS, EVER!
What part of “everyone and their possessions are subject to search upon entering this installation” did they not understand? They have no right to privacy for their laptops or cameras. Felony stupid.
What a monumental waste of time and resources. Political Correctness comes to Afghanistan. Seems like it is one-sided though.
As a current active duty guy, I feel the need to chime in.
In the overall scheme, is this really horrible? No, not really.
Has worse happened in Afghanistan and in other wars throughout our history? Absolutely.
Were these guys idiots for filming it? YES
If you listen to the video, they know what they are doing is wrong just by the context of what they say and how they say it.
Once this thing came out, the chain of command has no choice but to investigate it. I’ll tell you all one more thing, since they did this, you can damn sure bet they did other questionable things as well.
Hondo and Sgt Ted are right on the mark….if you put stuff on the internet, it becomes public domain. Completely stupid and gives all of us a black eye…. sort of reminds me of the Time Magazine cover of the Marine in dress blues wiht the black eye. Anyone remember that? It’s been a rough year, PR wise, for the Corps.
CWO5 USMC: Putting it on the Internet be damned; photographing foolish behavior in the first place is the real stupidity. This day and age, you have to assume that any photo or video you take could one day end up on the Internet. All it takes is pissing off one person who has access to a copy – or who merely knows that it exists.
Once an investigation starts, destroying copies of the photos/videos in question constitutes obstruction of justice. (If they’re private property, you might get away with destroying them before an investigation is started. Or you might not.) Obstruction is usually a more serious charge than the original stupid behavior.
When deployed, just don’t take any photos you wouldn’t want your mom or pastor to see. Period.
So this changes what I thought for years. Now “It’s better to be pissed on that pissed off?”
worse, the phots that you consider fun today can be pulled up as “war crimes evidence” or some such idiocy later. You assume that anything will never become politically incorrect in your life time – I look at what was considered normal when I was a kid, versus what is now absolutely verboten, and shudder to think what some as-yet-unconsidered minority/ethnic/disadvantaged/niche group may take offense about in years to come and I’m tempted to burn every slide and photo I ever took. We considered “rip your head off and piss down your neck” as a term of affection…..
Since I don’t see *anybody* replying from USAMPC, er make that USACID, let me point out something here. The NCIS show was ORIGINALLY supposed to be about USACID. You know, the very same guys Bill Perry and his frahking crowd that tucked tail and ran from to go hide up in Canada until Jimah Carter *forgave* them for their anti-war Winter Crybaby 1 *sins*.
Should those Marines have recorded their stupidity? *NO*, you *DICKWEEDS*. Do the civilian investigators at NCIS have anything better to do with their *union wage*(AFSCME)or is it, Fraternal Order of Police(FOP) time?
Again, NO….those are listed unions against war.
Frahk NCIS. They wouldn’t be anywhere near the military investigative agency they think they are without USACID leading the gawd damn way.
Off my shiny, oak soap box… Dumbass Marines…..
