Bellavia & WLF under assault by opponent

| May 25, 2012

I got a call from our buddy, David Bellavia, this morning who told me about the problems he’s having in his campaign for New York’s 27th Congressional District. The bad stuff we talked about is better explained at Blackfive. Bellavia’s Republican opponent is trying to drag the Warrior Legacy Foundation into the campaign accusing them of funneling campaign cash to Bellavia. That’s a mighty slimy charge against a veteran and a veterans’ charity on Memorial Day weekend. But Chris Collins wouldn’t know much about veterans.

Collins graduated from high school in 1968 at the peak of the draft for the Vietnam War, but his rich daddy did what most rich daddies did back then – sent their kids off to college to get a college deferment. There weren’t grants and loans like there are today, so only the rich could afford to send their kids to college and avoid the draft.

Collins went to North Carolina State University. In 1969, NCSU was the site of one of the largest protests in the country against the Vietnam War;

On October 15, 1969, activists across the nation took part in one such rally. With an estimated two million participants, the Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam remains one of the largest demonstrations in American history. Students and faculty at North Carolina State University took part, devoting the entire day to Vietnam-related protests, exhibits, discussions, and classroom activities.

How much you want to bet that Chris Collins was in the middle of that protest? It would seem hard to avoid, wouldn’t it? Especially with all of those hairy-legged hippie chicks giving it away.

Collins is trying to derail Bellavia’s campaign because a few days ago, Bellavia brought up the fact that Collins supported one of New York Mayor Bloomberg’s anti-gun scams when Collins was county executive in Niagara County. Collins says that he didn’t realize what Bloomberg’s little band of gun grabbers was really trying to do, but honestly, who doesn’t know what Bloomberg’s stance is on private gun ownership? Collins says he quit Bloomberg’s group after two weeks, when he “discovered” Bloomberg’s ulterior motives. But how many of you would join anything Bloomberg initiated in relation to guns? I mean seriously.

And who would believe a draft dodger anyway?

David Bellavia has my unwavering support in the upcoming elections and the draft dodger has the promise that I’ll throat punch him at my next opportunity.

Too bad that David Bellavia lives and runs in such hostile territory. He is a hell of a guy and has a lot of support! I hope they don’t pull the same crap on him like they did last election and he gets to run and I imagine he will put up a he’ll of a fight!

I wonder if Vote Vets have given their support to him…/sarcasm.

Athena

Who would believe ANYTHING Bloomberg does? He’s an absolute maroon.

It’s Republicans like this and the brain dead maroons running my beloved Az that makes it embarrassing to be a Republican. It’s also an indication, in my book, of desperation. Anyone with more than a couple or working brain cells are giving our veterans the respect they’ve earned through service. It appears this a$$hat didn’t serve and now feels threatened because he hid behind daddy’s big bucks. I think it’s time to write a check in support of an HONORABLE veteran, you listening Ken Adams?!

I’m with ya – I just donated to Bellavia’s campaign at http://www.bellaviaforcongress.com

I hear Bellavia’s book “House to House” just got signed up by a Hollywood bigwig to be made into a major motion picture for 2014. Imagine what good that feature film will do for the image of vets and active duty personnel!

Okay, now imagine the good that movie will do if Bellavia is a Congressman… Time to donate!

Look what just showed up in my email inbox: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY 25, 2012 BELLAVIA ENDORSED BY COMBAT VETERANS FOR CONGRESS (BATAVIA, NY) – Republican Congressional candidate David Bellavia’s campaign today announced the endorsement of Combat Veterans for Congress, the nation’s premier organization dedicated to electing conservative combat veterans to the United States Congress. “The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is pleased to endorse former SSgt David Bellavia,” PAC founder Capt. Joseph John (USN, Ret.) said. “David believes in limited government, reining in the out of control spending by Congress and the Administration, and keeping down the cost of medical care for active duty personnel and Veterans.” “I am honored to have the support of Combat Veterans for Congress and particularly humbled to accept the support of my brothers and sisters at arms as we march solemnly into Memorial Day,” Bellavia said. “I am just one soldier of millions who have served in combat to protect our nation and it means the world to me to have Combat Veterans for Congress beside me in this fight for the future of America.” Bellavia served in the United States Army from 1999 to 2005 and was deployed to fight in the Iraq War. An enlisted squad leader during the Second Battle of Fallujah, he and his men were featured in a Pulitzer Prize-winning Time Magazine article about the brutal siege (http://ti.me/7T3AVV). The imbedded Time Magazine reporter also filed a stunning video report (http://bit.ly/KoVd37). His opponent, Chris Collins, came of age during the Vietnam War yet did not serve in the military. “David Bellavia is a veteran who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America for an amount up to and including his life,” John said. “We are pleased a combat veteran of his caliber is running for Congress and we urge all veterans in New York’s 27th District to support David Bellavia.” ABOUT COMBAT VETERANS FOR CONGRESS In August 2009, Cong Barry Goldwater, Jr. and Capt Joseph R. John Co-founded the Combat Veterans For Congress PAC. The PAC was formed… Read more »

@4 Bellavia Backer, thanks for the link. He may be a democRAT, but he must be doing something right if Collins is running so scared as to demean a veteran and a legitimate veteran’s organization.

Yat Yas 1833 –
No way is SSG Bell a Dem! Bellavia is a conservative Republican and as hardcore as it gets. Unapologetic about it. HOOAH!

DR_BRETT

No. 3 — Thanks for the update; it is good to hear some ARIZONA residents can think straight .

Yat Yas 1833

BB, sorry! I’m a “whoever will do the best job” Republican so I will donate to a Dem who is serious. This only makes it easier to give!:)

Yat Yas 1833

DR_BRETT, unfortunately the Republican party is split here in Az. There are those of us who helped throw out extremist Russell Pierce, of SB 1070 infamy, and those that want to keep pushing us further and further to the right. I’m conservative but not to the point of gutting our needed services. Our schools are barely scraping by, our public health services are in shambles and mental health care is all most nonexistent here and some of our “leaders” are in desperate need of it!?

Jonn, FWIW “only the rich could afford to send their kids to college” in the sixties is incorrect. While going to a private school or out of state was beyond the means of many, going in-state to a state owned school like NC State was doable by families of modest means. Mine did it for me, mom was a teacher in a two room country grade school and dad ran a bandsaw in an aluminum foundry and operated a small farm. They were by no means rich.

That’s no defense of Collins, just trying to keep the historical record straight.

No. 12 — Mr. Yat Yas 1833 :
Much of the U.S.A. is Republicans split between
– Establishment
– Constitutional, proper gov’t only .
These two are MY analysis.
Again, thanks for teaching me about Arizona (all *sincere*) .

@11 StL Frank: Yeah, me, too. Parents started saving for college shortly after my birth. Managed to squeak through using that $$, grants, loans and part time jobs. And that was at one of those small private schools. Oh, yeah, we had more than our share of uber-rich, but plenty of us who were not as well. We had three classes of students – the Greeks who dressed very well, we of working stock who dressed pretty well, and a few nasty hippies who owned most of the cars on campus. Typical mid-to-late 60’s thing?

Adam_S

Sounds like a real asshat.

The best MBA program he could manage was UA-Birmingham? The University of Alabama has a good business school, but the only people who use the Birmingham campus are people pursuing graduate degrees while working full time. Considering the anathema Collins has with work I’m curious at how that’s the best business school he could manage. Daddy’s money could have more than paid for Duke or the actual University of Alabama campus, but (as much as it pains me as an Auburn undergrad to admit) then you actually have to be intelligent to pursue a graduate degree at either.

Old Trooper

I’ve followed David’s trials and fights in his pursuit of public office since it was first announced that David was running for office a few years ago and Jonn has done an excellent job of keeping us updated. The establishment pukes in New York don’t like David and have proven that several times by pulling dirty tricks on him at every turn. Unfortunately, they have no idea who they are dealing with. This man is as tough as they come and has the support of many in the Veteran community and they don’t back down from a fight, either. The establishment republicans in New York are scumbags. They have lied to David countless times, because they like to be the ones who anoint a candidate to stroke their own self important egos (and they like big money candidates).

Yat Yas 1833

@13 DR_BRETT, there are many Republicans here that are tired of the antics of Sheriff Joe and Governor Jan and the nut-jobs running the state house. The problem is there are just as many who support them which leaves the party split. What kills me is the fact the democRATs won’t get out and vote. They don’t realize that between them, the independents and us not so far right leaning Republicans we could change the face of Arizona politics. Very frustrating!

@ Yat Yas. Glad to see you are easily swayed there, Marine. lol. I’m onboard for David, too.

If none of you haven’t read the link to a newspaper opinion piece that “other” blog links to, you should. Just kidding ya, Uncle Jimbo…That is an excellent post on Bellavia you have over there.

I knew Bellavia is a veteran, but I didn’t realize he fought in the Second Battle of Fallujah. Collins’ slander is bad enough against any veteran, but making those accusations against a Silver Star recipient who fought in one of, if not the most, brutal battle in all of OIF?! I can’t believe the gall of that scumbag draft dodger. He isn’t fit to pour piss of Bellavia’s boot, let alone question his integrity.
