Welcome Russ Vaughn
I think I peed myself a little. Going through my emails this morning, I came across one from Russ Vaughn. I didn’t think he even knew who we were. If you don’t recognize the name, Russ wrote “The Sheepdogs“. He used to write at Old War Dogs, the project created by the late Bill Faith (who credited Russ with the idea for OWD) and currently writes at The American Thinker.
Anyway, Russ asked if we had room here at TAH for him. Lemme see, we have 18 people who can post here, one is bouncing around currently in some ‘Stan, somewhere, two are on Capitol Hill and the rest have lives, apparently, so lemme see if I can squeeze you in here, somewhere, Russ.
Anyway, even if I didn’t have room, one of them would be getting their walking papers so we could get our clutches on a bit of Russ’ time. So join me, if you will, in welcoming an icon of the Vietnam generation of blog writers, Russ Vaughn to the already stellar staff at TAH.
By the way, Russ earned his Combat Infantry Badge in the 2d Bn, 327th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, when they were still paratroopers in Vietnam 1965-1966.

This is epic! Sheepdogs is a holy relic of American military literature.
Welcome Mr Vaughn.
Welcome Russ!
You know at this rate, at some time we are just going to have to start calling you the mainstream media.
Welcome Russ, and oh don’t worry about the mess, it’s comfortable.
Good to see you over here, Russ! Pretty good place to hang around, with (mostly) a bunch of good folks.
Welcome aboard, Russ, and thanks for that great book you wrote.
And yeah, don’t sweat the mess. It’s just semi-organized clutter.
Welcome aboard, Mr. Vaughn.
I’d never read “Sheepdogs” before. After reading it, Kipling’s epic “Tommy” came to mind…and that’s intended as high compliment.
Welcome aboard, Mr. Vaughn…Semper Fi, and thank you for your service.
Sweet…Welcome!!
Russ Vaughn is known as the Poetrooper. At Old War Dogs, their first “Mascot”/ banner dog was my ol’ Sunny. Later replaced by a caricature.
I still have an “Old War Dogs” section in my online store.
Welcome Russ. Good to have you aboard.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention he’ll be posting here as “Poetrooper”, too.
Welcome, Russ.
Welcome, Mr. Vaughn! 🙂

Wow! It just keeps getting better! Welcome Russ.
This reminds me Jonn, whatever happened to Berkshire Republican?
Welcome Mr Vaughn.
Whoa! Scoooooooooooooooore!!
Wilkommen, Herr Vaughn!
Another solid reason to visit this blog! People in all walks of life love your work, sir.
Welcome Russ! At least Jonn admitted he needs a bigger reason than 1-your arrival, 2-the fact I’ve made all of three posts, 3-there’s already enough squids posting to toss me aside. Oh crap…forgot the “It’s his board” angle. Shit.
But welcome all the same.
Mr. Vaughn, first rounds on me! Welcome!
Russ,
I just read your poem, and LOVE IT…too bad I had not read it earlier.
I have spoken with Dave Grossman MANY times, and love the work he does, so if you penned that awesome poem, based on his works…I can’t WAIT to read more of your stuff.

Hello and welcome!
Welcome! FYI- there is/was no such thing as the 327 Parachute Infantry Regiment- it should be 327 Airborne Infantry Regiment. Former glider regiments (188,325,327etc.) were known as Glider Infantry and later became Airbone Infantry when they converted to airborne status. The 501,504, 505th etc. were known as Parachute Infantry Regiments and thus the difference. Hate to be a sharpshooter but I am a product of the big green machine.
Holy cats! Welcome aboard Russ! This is the best news I’ve seen this A.M..
Hot Damn! Welcome Russ. Made my day to read you’ll be posting.

Mr. Vaughn!! So good to have you here. I am a civilian, and a proud troop supporter. I found your “Sheepdogs” several years back. I’m so glad to have the opportunity to tell you directly — Thank you! Of all the things I’ve read in my quest to gain understanding of our military, this has helped me the most. And, I’ve shared your poem with many — troops and civilian alike — and I know it has helped them too. Thank you, and Welcome!
Welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy the company here at TAH.
Russ is my uncle, and one of my favorite Vets and writers! He is also possibly the funniest man I know. My best memories are holiday dinners at my grandparent’s house and hearing his funny tales. Can’t wait to read more of your stuff Uncle Russ!
