Speaking of the Iraq War

| March 19, 2012

I just got this gem in my inbox from my BFF Barry;

It says that the Iraq War began 9 years ago today, and because we have Barack Obama, it’s over;

This past December, President Barack Obama stood at Fort Bragg in front of troops returning from Iraq, and said: “Welcome home.”

Across the nation, and on America’s military bases around the world, it was a momentous occasion. The war had come to a definitive, responsible end. As an Iraq War vet, I’m especially proud to say that President Obama kept his promise.

Actually, Barack Obama’s promise was to have the troops home in 16 months after he took office, not 35 months. So the promise he kept was President Bush’s promise.

But, apparently this a call out to veterans to join the Obama campaign, because, you know he’s done so much for us. Like increased our healthcare premiums 500%, stopped our Cost of Living Allowances for the last three years. Screwed up the VA education benefits so bad that no one knows when or if they’ll ever get their VA checks. In fact, Ed benefits are so bad now, that chief proponent of the New GI Bill Jim Webb is proposing caps to the benefits that got Democrats elected in 2008.

For the record, I’m thinking neither party deserves the votes of veterans in this election because both sides have sold us down the river on the things we earned based on an unwritten promise. But, neither should they take for granted our votes. But anyone campaigning for barack Obama can’t tell me they’re looking for veterans, like this dimwit Rob Diamond, another HuffPo dingus, who sent me this email.

Never truer words spoken.

I know that Retention is trying to say that all of these cuts will not affect those who are already in. That we would be “Grandfathered” in. That we have nothing to worry about if we re-enlist. That the only people that it will affect will be the new people coming in.

I have experienced some scary things and seen some evil people but just a picture of that wretched hag scares the shit out of me. This whole letter makes me want to vomit.

Not much I can say about this that wont get me an article 15.

CI Roller Dude

I agree…is this the BEST either party can come up with? I’m all for starting a new party…we’ll call it the “Common Sense, No Bullshit Party.”

Grilka is an attractive Klingon woman…the woman pictured there is not an attractive Klingon.

CI Roller Dude: If you start that new party, and run for President, you’ll have my vote!

TSO

Diamond is a VoteVets jackass, by way of their Truman Project thing.

TSO

But remember, VoteVets isn’t partisan…

@ Spork: years ago I was told that retirement came with free healthcare…I have since learned that nothing is grandfathered in. Congress critters are spouting off about taking care of veterans and consumer protections while stabbing us in the back.

And regarding VA Ed benefits, the latest proposal heading for VA Sec. Shinseki’s desk is to not pay CH 33 benefits if veteran-students have a debt. Debts can be from simple things such as schedule changes during the semester. If signed, this shifts debt from VA, making college/university the VA’s collector and potentially ends classes for the Veteran.

Common sense solution is to defer debt until degree is awarded and the Veteran enters workforce. It’s a shame common sense is not common.

“Political Activities by Members of the Armed Forces Training”
Weekend drill had that training distracter sucking up useful bandwidth….

And this is why.

Somebody is trying to drive traffic to his website…

AW1 Tim

Yeah, I noticed that. Another whacko conspiracy nut trolling for web hits.

I’ll bet he’s a PaulBot too.

H1

If that was aimed at me.
Then no.

We burned 2 hours of Battle Assembly this weekend doing death by Power Point because of people endorsing candidates in uniform.

Not Cool.

Just Plain Jason

I am pretty sure it was targeted right at you…

I’m just waiting for the Good Idea Fairy to suggest that the VA follow suit with state tuition incentives-veteran pays tuition up front and is reimbursed when they turn in their grades. All too often that meant I floated tuition on a credit card for the semester and waited an extra month to get a check cut.

H1

I do get to keep my Palin bumper sticker.

@18 – G.I.F already struck, not remitting tuition payments until the end of the semester is an idea that’s been considered by VA. Combine that (if it happens) with debt being withheld, and you’re correct – Vets will most likely need to use credit cards or loans as a bridge.

I personally floated tuition on credit when I used TA and Montgomery GI Bill, but the Post 9/11 GI Bill was supposed to alleviate that. Give our bureaucrats enough time, they’ll figure out a way to screw up Veteran Benefits. Happens every time.

She can go pound sand. Take that every way possible.

Change your name from Just Plain Jason to Just Plain Stupid.

sorry jason, I jumped the gun. apologies. I should scroll up more often.

Just Plain Jason

Thats ok tango it happens every now and then. Grilka is an attractive Klingon.

“Battle Assembly”: My thats a lovely shade of lipstick on that pig.

Just call it “Weekend Drill”. Because thats what it is.

You know you want to. 🙂

Jacobite

Weekend Drill or Battle Assembly, is there a point you’re trying to make Ted?

I’ve had commanders that insisted on calling it one or the other, I don’t see that calling attention to the terms, or trying to draw a distinction is all that relevant to anything. What is relevant is that time in uniform was potentially used to promote political agendas. Care to comment on that?

H1

Drill Weekends are now Battle Assemblies (I asked if I could bring my personal defense weapons, request was declined).
Annual Training is now Extended Combat Training.

BC had us develope a COA for having battle rattle on during BA.
Consitently extracting the weapons from the vaults became the culmination point.

Old and new terms are interchangeable depending on grade level of persons within ear shot.
