The difference a party makes

| December 23, 2011

Somehow, I thought when I read this from the Washington Post, this wouldn’t have been characterized as “caves” if the roles had been reversed;

And then I remembered when the Democrats “caved” last year to Republicans in the battle to extend the Bush tax cuts (and/or prevent the Obama tax hike) the Washington Post called it a “Landmark Tax Bill”.

Funny how much difference a year makes, huh?

Oh, now I get it. Dems compromise, Repubs cave in.

Ah, those wascally wadical Wepublicans and those
caring, sensitive, ethical and moral Democrats. It
is cool to have our first black president, who puts
it all in its proper perspective for a dimwitted MSM,

FreddieLounds

The Dems win by getting an extension for two months instead of the 12 months the GOP wanted.

uhhh,thanks?

Well, now the cat is out of the bag: Social Security is wholly supported by taxes, not ‘contributions.’ But the rules remain the same: you only get as much back as you put in, unless you’re an adult baby.

But, but having extra income, that means it can be taxed in other ways.

If the estimates are true and this measure sinks another few hundred thousand jobs due to messing with the taxation and reporting requirements; and blows a hole in the ability to pay for Social Security, how much will DOD give up to shore up Social Security and unemployment? In the name of the People, of course. Which is the purpose of this drill.

So what happens in 2 months?

As for Boehner and McConnell, they haven’t won a fight yet. They define the Peter Principle.

I understand your frustration. But don’t blame it on the Republicans or on their leadership. Without control of both the Senate and the House, or even the presidency, they can’t be expected to advance their agenda or to get much accomplished.

This thought won’t be appreciated, but if you want to blame somebody, blame the Tea Partiers and their irrational aversion to what they call Rinos. If they hadn’t interfered, Rinos could have defeated Democrats in several districts in the 2010 election, and Republicans would now control the Senate and the House.

Think about it: Which would you rather have; a Rino from a district where only a Rino or a Democrat can get elected, and who will vote with Republicans some of the time …, or a Democrat from that district who will [never] vote with Eepublicans? The Tea Partiers screwed-up big time; e.g., their lackluster candidates Sharon Angle, Carly Fiorino and Christine O’Donnell to name just a few which immediately come to mind, two of whom, ironically, were Rinos themselves. (Remember Conservative Chuck DeVore, who feminist Tea Partiers dismissed in favor of liberal, feminist Carly Fiorino? Savvy people, those Tea Partiers.)

In view of the circumstances, Republicans in Congress and their leadership are doing the best jobs rhat they can. For example, if they can get get bi-partisan support for the Keystone Pipeline and if they can ram through that legislation against still opposition from Obama and his inner circle, [that] will be a victory for Republicans, and a foundation that they can build on for the 2012 elections. Don’t be so negative. The Democrats’ shills in the MSM want you to be negative. You’re playing right into their hands, letting Al Sharpton and Chris Matthews do you thinking for you.

Rich

Brian, you’re spot on.
Progress won’t be made until the extremes of both parties are gone.

It’s not the party, it’s John Bonehead. That guy needs to be duct taped. There’s not a dime’s worth of real difference between the Dem and Rep leadership. It’s like differentiating between Stalinists and Leninists. Bottom line, they’re both freakin’ commies and who gaves a hoot about the nuances. AARRRRGGGGHHHH.

Brian

Jonn, that was then, this is now, and BTW,
they didn’t “muck it up” as badly as the
Democrats’ shills in the MSM say that they
did. You want a few misconceptions?

Brian

#8 – That’s simply not true. Get a grip, and get real.

2-17 AirCav

Get a grip and get real? Okay, since you said so. Would now be too soon?

2-17 AirCav

@10: Hey Bud, just who the hell do you think you are, aside from the guy who is pissing me off right now. Jone Bonehead is a horses ass and is pulling oars and probably his pud with the she whom he replaced and the chief senate knucklehead. Bonehead has done every damn thing that the imam-in-chief has wanted. The only people trying to make a difference are the newcomers to Congress, many of whom were supported by the tea Party you disparage. But this won’t be settled here or by us. Just watch the nasties.

Brian

#13 – I deal in facts. You deal in bullshit.

LOL – Sorry, but there wasn’t a tactful way to say that.

Brian

#12 – Give me a few minutes here until my kids stop
acting up, and I’ll dazzle you with rational examples
of how, um, misguided you are. 8)

Funny. At the national level there doesn’t seem to be much dif between the parties themsleves. They are both driving us rapidly toward socialism and have been for at least a couple of decades. One party seems to be moving at greater speed than the other, but none of them (except some of the new class) has any concept what life is like out here in the real world among we who are forced to pay them while they sit around playing whatever is their game of the week. It’s not even about the acquisition and maintenance of power any more. It is us against them, all of the career politicians and their seriously bloated staffs.

Except for a few brave souls like Allen West.

2-17 AirCav

Looking forward to it. Maybe instead of telling me to get a grip and get real, you should have offered some rational rebuttal in the first place. I am quite adept at both intelligent discourse and swapping insults.

CI

@16 – That echoes my sentiments as well. The GOP could gain the Senate and the WH, and keep the House…..and I would still hold no hope that entitlements would be cut, DoED reformed, and the size and scope of the federal government diminished an iota.

You get someone like Allen West, who might stand for the above…you have to endure his Muslim fear mongering.

Is it so hard to find someone these days who is a Conservative on all accounts, and treats the position as a servant of the people?

UpNorth

Greg Sargent? this from the WaPo, itself, “Greg Sargent writes The Plum Line blog, a reported opinion blog with a liberal slant — what you might call “opinionated reporting” from the left. He joined the Post in early 2009, after stints at Talking Points Memo, New York Magazine and the New York Observer”. A “liberal slant”? “Opinionated reporting from the left”? Really? No bias in that dead tree media outlet.

Brian

“Except for a few brave souls like Allen West.” – OWB

LOL, yeah, right. West has voted with the Congressional Black Caucus on not one or two or even three, but FOUR key pieces of legislation, always apologizing to [some] of his constituents after each of those four votes, and blaming it on his staff, alleging that they failed to apprise him of the “small print”, but continuing to vote with the CBC.

He talks the talk, but he doesn’t walk the walk. Tea Party candidates like him are the best assets that the Democrats have, and the MSM knows it. Like Obama, West is just another empty suit, street hustler and pretentious, decadent dilletante. You need to keep up with the news. You really do.

But I digress. Stay tuned. 🙂

CI

@19 – ““Opinionated reporting from the left”? Really? No bias in that dead tree media outlet.”

You did note that this was in the OpEd section…right?

OWB

Get slapped around much for the attitude there, Brian??

But thanks for the warm fuzzies. You are such a dear.

UpNorth

@#21. Don’t care where it was, really. No reason for the WaPo or any of the media, to carry an “opinionated” blog, or op-ed or news story.
If they want to, then they should have to declare it as in-kind advertising.

CI

@23 – Fair enough…I rather agree. Hard news should be separate from commentary, but that horse left the barn long ago.

UpNorth

@24, sadly, you’re quite correct.

melony

May I nudge my way into this?
What the MSM didn’t report: Democrats cut out 20 weeks of unemployment benefits (so much for the party of “we care about the American people)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/22/unemployment-benefits_n_1165459.html

Raises rates on home loans for first time homebuyers AND forces Obama’s hand on the Keystone XL Pipeline, which he has 60 day to make a decision on.

AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL from Streetsweeper and myself!!!

2-17 AirCav

Blogs are fun. Sometimes commenters are akin to drunks in a bar, arguing with one another nonsensically, throwing out rumor, misinterpretation, and distortion as fact and staying true to their foolishness in the face of contrary evidence. When pressed, the drunk-like commenter, convinced of his correctness, lashes out dismissively at those who would challenge him and that’s that–until the next time. After a few such broadcasts and episodes, those who at first innocently engaged him, or watched as others did so, come to dismiss the commenter as one does the local barroom drunk.

Jeez, I almost forgot. Merry Christmas, Brian.

Brian

#27 – I don’t argue with fools or with retards
or with psychos ………… or with assholess.

2-17 AirCav

@28. You are a write off, bud, and anothewr guy who will reveal himself in the near or distant future. Your type always does.
