CBS: Fast & Furious sales used to support more gun control
We all knew in our heart of hearts that the government planned to use their own sanctioned gun sales to drug cartels as a justification to add more gun control to the volumes of laws that burden gun dealers. Well, CBS News has uncovered documentation;
On Jan. 4, 2011, as ATF prepared a press conference to announce arrests in Fast and Furious, Newell saw it as “(A)nother time to address Multiple Sale on Long Guns issue.” And a day after the press conference, Chait emailed Newell: “Bill–well done yesterday… (I)n light of our request for Demand letter 3, this case could be a strong supporting factor if we can determine how many multiple sales of long guns occurred during the course of this case.”
This revelation angers gun rights advocates. Larry Keane, a spokesman for National Shooting Sports Foundation, a gun industry trade group, calls the discussion of Fast and Furious to argue for Demand Letter 3 “disappointing and ironic.” Keane says it’s “deeply troubling” if sales made by gun dealers “voluntarily cooperating with ATF’s flawed ‘Operation Fast & Furious’ were going to be used by some individuals within ATF to justify imposing a multiple sales reporting requirement for rifles.”
Yeah, it’s more than “deeply troubling”, its thuggish and heavy-handed regulators run amuck.

Perfect follow-up to the “workplace violence” post.
My thoughts exactly.
Like many others, I, too, picked up on Sarah Brady’s comments this past spring:
Quote:

Anti-gun activist Sarah Brady claims President Barack Obama is committed to stealth gun control according to a report in The Washington Post.
Recounting a March 30 meeting between Brady, her husband Jim and White House Press secretary Jay Carney, The Post reports:
During the meeting, President Obama dropped in and, according to Sarah Brady, brought up the issue of gun control, “to fill us in that it was very much on his agenda,” she said.
“I just want you to know that we are working on it,” Brady recalled the president telling them. “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

The Obama administration is on record as regarding each crisis as an opportunity to push or effect its agenda. It seems that if a crisis–or an event that can be treated as one–does not arise, then the administration is quite willing to create one. No one has to give the administration’s yes men detailed, written marching orders to do this. They know what the boss wants and they want to please the boss. This ATF debacle and the scheme to use it as a crack-down on gun sales is a perfect example of that. But the first order of business for bureaucrats is to preserve their jobs; that’s where the administration’s achilles heal is exposed. Often, the same bureaucrats who do their utmost to shine for the boss are the ones who, in the end, hasten his downfall. Machiavelli knew what the hell he was talking about.
Well, the administration had the FBI approve sales of guns to convicted felons, and the ATF let the guns walk to Meh-hee-co. It’s a debacle, all right, but it isn’t limited to the ATF, the stench spreads throughout this administration.
So,I’m sure that Eric Holder is working diligently to get indictments for those responsible, right? OK, I can’t even type that shit with a straight face.
If this was another administration, the impeachment trial would already be going on in the Senate.
Holder said today that he “put an end to the practice” of letting guns walk. This guy is more delusional than his boss. He also said this wasn’t a “top down” operation conceived in D.C.
Of course there was the bit about it being an operation set up under the previous administration. He may not have said it but the talking heads in the media made it very clear that it is all Bush’s fault and it was the good guys now in town who brought the practice to an end and have fired lots and lots of folks over it. Except that it didn’t quite happen that way.
Why do we need the ATF again? Why do we need so many ICE/Border Patrol and other federal agencies dressing up in flack vests, Kevlars and playing “cop”/”soldier”?
The Border Patrol wants army equipment back from Iraq to play with. The ATF is letting weapons waltz across our borders. The TSA is still touching us.. When will the madness stop?
We need leadership that will cut these jackwagons pink slips.
