VoteVets: We need more veterans in Congress
Temporary place-holder for Jon Soltz as executive director at Vote Vets, Ashwin Madia, released a statement today lamenting the lack of veterans in Congress. Of course, like Soltz, he loves the chickenhawk aspect;
How often has the loudest military saber-rattling come from those politicians who never served a day in their lives? How often have we seen a non-veteran use high rhetoric full of empty promises in front of the Veterans of Foreign Wars or American Legion? Perhaps those who have lived through military experiences will have unique qualifications in helping make decisions about the military – and decisions weighing the true costs of war against the potential benefits.
Yeah, how often, Ash-hole? In fact, i remember just a few weeks ago when I listened to “a non-veteran use high rhetoric full of empty promises in front of the American Legion” – He was your choice in the 2008 Presidential Election over a decorated veteran.
Why, if they’re so concerned about electing veterans, did VoteVets toss a million bucks at Harry Reid’s last Senate campaign, who, using their definition of the term, was a draft dodger. That money couldn’t have gone to the thirty or so veterans running in the last mid-term election?
And dicksmith is so fond of calling Allen West a “war criminal”, yet West is the most effective voice veterans have in Congress. And if Votevets were true to their stated mission of getting more veterans into Congress, why is it that the only veteran who was a Republican they’ve EVER supported in their entire history of existance was Chuck Hagel when he began criticizing the war in Iraq and President Bush?
What Ash-hole meant to write, but couldn’t because he’s supposed to be non-partisan, is that we need more pussy-ass Blue Falcon Democrat veterans in Congress who are more concerned with non-issues like DADT repeal – candidates like Patrick Murphy, Eric Masa and Joe Sestak.
Thanks to TSO for the link.

If you start in 1973 when the draft ended until today and throw in everyone who COULD have served (ages 18-56) from then to now–and let’s make it 25-56 because of Constitutional requirements, what percentage of adults in that age group have ANY sort of military service?
I would say that military veterans are OVER-represented in Congress based on the number of veterans serving. No, Ash-hole, it’s that not all of them chug the KoolAid you’re drinking.
My favorite part of the hypocrisy of VoteVets is that the Chairman of the Vets Affairs commitee was veteran Steve Buyer, and they shit on him every single second of the day. Previous Chairman Filner though was lavished with sponge baths, despite the fact he never served, and was a vocal hippie against troops back in the day. Now, I happen to actually like Filner, and moderately dislike Buyer, but nonetheless, try to match their rhetoric with the facts…
Don’t forget that Madia was such a kool aid drinker on Iraq that Vets for Freedom endorsed a civilian over him in 2008.
We don’t just need more veterans in Congress, we need more Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
Referring to his 2008 failed attempt to win a seat in Congress, Ashwin writes, “I ended up a little short in my race…. “ A little short? A little short in a MN district race might be losing by 1,000 or, perhaps, 2000 votes. Hell, I’ll even go 5,000 since the guy likes to play word Gumby. But Ashwin lost by nearly 30,000 votes against a non veteran.
Sour grapes? No way!
You forgot he lost by 10 points in a state that Obama won by over 10 points in 2008.
Face it, if as a Democrat you couldn’t ride the Obama wagon into power in 2008, you need to find another line of work.
And that’s why I have emailed Patrick Murray and will do everything and anything he wants me to do to help his campaign.

He’s challenging the odious and repugnant Jim Moran for the 8th seat in Virginia!
Hey Nicki. Don’t you need to write in six or seven foreign languages where you live now?
#7 – Luckily, I can write in four:
Russian
German
French
Serbian (really badly)
Unfortunately, no Spanish or Pashtu, so I’m fucked, but only slightly. 😀
