Scott Olsen confirms that which we knew

| November 14, 2011

Reuters reports that Scott Olsen the former Marine who was injured at Occupy Oakland has issued a statement most of which we already knew, but were excoriated for voicing over the last few weeks;

Olsen served two tours in Iraq, working as a technician and earning a handful of service medals.

Friends say he soured on military life after leaving the service and started a now-defunct website called “I hate the Marine Corps” which served as a forum for disgruntled servicemen.

Olsen received an “administrative discharge” from the service in late 2009, his uncle George Nygaard has said, though the precise reasons for it have not been confirmed.

Such a discharge can result from any number of behavioral or disciplinary issues.

Yeah, his discharge probably had nothing to do with the pictures on his Flickr page – those pictures of marijuana plants.

This should serve as an warning to those fucksticks and all of those hippies writing at the New York Times, the Columbia Journalism Review and the Village Voice – veterans can judge the service of other veterans without official documentation – that’s why Milblogs exist – to school you scumbag journalists who won’t take the time to do your research.

I like how the author referred to him as an “ex-marine”.

‘soured on military life after leaving the service’

The administrative discharge tells me he soured on the Corps long before getting booted out.

I am surprised his DD-214 hasn’t been produced yet.

You are a former Marine if you leave the Corps (ETS or transfer out to another service). You are an EX-Marine if the Corps kicks your ate up ass out.

At least that’s how my uncle put it.

OWB

There is also a lesser known group of folks who put themselves into the category of ex-Marine by exhibiting behavior after seperation which is particularly loathsome.

Mr Murtha comes to mind as prosecution Exhibit #1.

(@ Flagwaver – please thank your uncle for that explanation.)

Sporkmaster

Oh I thought that this would be interesting since this post if from him.

NHSparky

Of course he needed a nap, Spork–coming down after doing all of that coke’ll fuck up your entire day.

Either that dude is a total moron, or his 1stSgt doesn’t convey sarcasm very well. I’ll go with option A.

“Olsen received an ‘administrative discharge’ from the service in late 2009, his uncle George Nygaard has said, though the precise reasons for it have not been confirmed.”

The precise reasons have not been confirmed? Oh, I see. Okay, so what were the general reasons? Let me guess. Uncle George said that nephew was drummed out of the Corps but Reuters wasn’t about to relate that without knowing what? The date and time of a violation that prompted the boot? It’s nice that Reuters wants to be precise before reporting something. So what, precisely, is a “handful of service medals?” And let’s not overlook this gem: “Friends say he soured on military life after leaving the service….” He soured on military service AFTER leaving it? Is that like souring on, say, basketball after you were kicked off the team? Give me an ever-lovin’ break!

How about a smattering of medals? Or maybe a light sprinkling of medals? Sounds more like a recipe from Paula Dean than a service record. How to make a faux war hero? A dash of service medals with a handful of article 15s add one chapter 14 and a healthy serving of GTFO. Bake for 45, and we know Scott was nicely baked most of the time, and there you go.

I’d have to say that Olsen could be tied with Murtha, but he isn’t in the position to do as much damage as the slimeball from Pa. did.

@10. Good post. Season to taste!

Olson is probably lactose intolerant and therefore could NEVER handle the butter necessary for a Paula Deen artery-clogging feast.

[…] Yea this little gem is making the round around Facebook. Too bad few know his past. […]

As a retired Marine and “scumbag journalist” I have to say you need to take the criticism of my post Corps career down a notch or two. Take a look at the original list of contestants in the Jesse MacBeth Stolen Valor Tournament and you’ll see that a lot of them had not only fooled a reporter, but VFW posts, Legion halls, the VA, police departments and military units…all who should have known better. Take the Torpedo Tube General – MG David Weber or PFC Bling Bling – Col Michael Delos Hamilton as examples, both, for years, had been repeat guests at military functions before being exposed, and belies the statement that “veterans can judge the service of other veterans without official documentation.”

[…] Scott Olsen seems to have been there, although he left before the voluntary arrests began. “Once bitten…”, but not before he quipped that he sure would like to urinate in a police car. […]
