On a scale of 1 to Tom Brady, how badass is this Johnny Cash project thing?

| September 13, 2011

Random fact I shared on facebook earlier. Cash’s great nephew was my knob roommate at The Citadel. Carey Cash (whose sister was Ms America) later went on to be a Chaplain in the Marine Corps, and the first such Chaplain to get into Baghdad. He is now the Chaplain at Camp David, and thus (I guess) Obama’s pastor. Heck of a nice guy. I imagine he hated me, and I can’t say I blame him, I was a jackass. He was the Center on our football team.

He is the author of “A Table in the Presence.”

I don’t want to be Captain Bringdown, but is anyone else annoyed by all of these hipster douchebags who “discovered” Johnny Cash recently? I mean would they even bother to listen to his brand of country music if he hadn’t somehow been embraced as a cultural icon? I doubt it. Does that make the tribute any less cool? Nah. But it still annoys the shit out of me.

Agreed, Claymore. Was listening to Johnny when I was a little nard. One of my all time favorites is a boy named Sue.

I listened to Johnny Cash in 1989 when I drove around a 1974 Mustang with an 8 track player in it. I’m still refered to as “oh you mean that chick that made you listen to “Live at Fulsom Prison” if you wanted to ride in her car?”

Thanks for the heads up on the book. Checked out the reviews and plan on buying it.

That is a very good book. It had the hair standing up on my neck in a couple of places. I lent it to a friend and never got it back. Didn’t know about the author’s relation to J Cash though. Wouldn’t have mattered, just nice to know. Like all of Cash’s music. It speaks of the real America IMHO
