Huh? Odd priorities.

Here in WV unions have a cachet of no small note.  The Battle of Blair Mountain serves as a non-trivial footnote.

Yet… We have this:

Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.

Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.

No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said.

Just what were they protesting?

Purely coincidence in timing so soon after Obama’s demand for violence in Hoffa’s Labor Day speech.

Purely.

Coincidence.

And Zero: the longshoremen are protesting that another union is doing the work. In Newport News, longshoremen get up to $100K in safety bonuses alone. That’s a lot of motivation.

“Just what were they protesting?”

A company that did not employ members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union was hired as a contractor to work at the Port of Longview.

Oddly enough, the workers of that contractor are members of a different union.

The Battle of Blair Mountain is the type of event the longshorethugs want people to liken their situation to. I say screw ’em, obey the federal injunction, quit whining, and either get back to work for your starvation wage of $100,000+ or quit.

Blair, damnit. Blair.

NHSparky

So it’s not even union versus non-union. Way to make yourselves irrelevant.

And $100K plus? Double that, and you’ll be closer. But good luck getting your card.

I wonder if they’re gonna start taking ears.

Doc Bailey

And you wonder why the country is in the crapper. They aren’t protesting indentured servitude in the Mines, or dangerous work conditions. They ought to round up these SOBs and chuck them in jail

Old Trooper

Doc; they haven’t made any arrests in this latest incident, even though the thugs all went back to their union hall after breaking several federal laws including kidnapping (holding someone hostage, against their will is kidnapping) and terroristic threats against a law enforcement officer.

This is only the start. I’m sure there will be more such bs from union jackwagons in the near future.

I wonder if AQ took lessons from the American labor movement?

USMC Steve

What the fuck do they consider a crime up there? Kidnapping, vandalism, armed criminal action, the list goes on and on. And not one single arrest?

What the fuck?

Spade

USMC Steve,

The cops are in a union too, you know.

They were protesting the fact that a company at the port was using a rival union to provide some of their labor. It is as simple as that. A clear cut case of union thuggery in a situation where the stakes were so low that it probably didn’t rate a teleconference, much less a riot. This is what happens when you give whiney, slavering little union goons less than exactly what they are demanding. let that be a message to you, from Don Corleone.
