Phony colonel sentenced
AverageNCO sends us a link to news that Michael Hamilton, who we first wrote about last year has finally been sentenced;
A federal judge sentenced him to 16 months in prison for counts one and two (false statements and larceny of government property, respectively), six months on count three (unlawful wearing of uniform), and 12 months on count four (unlawful claim of military decorations and medals).
The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning the shorter sentences will be completed while serving the longer 16 month sentences.
Hamilton will be on supervised release for three years after his prison term.
The judge ordered Hamilton to pay $37,635 in restitution and $235 for a special assessment fee. The judge did not impose any additional fines, stating Hamilton would not be capable of paying.
So what if he can’t pay? Let him work the shit off. I’m sure a judge would take into account whether I can pay or not when hammering me with fines.

I don’t know how these old codgers get away with it. You’d think they have some family that would know really what their military career was made of. It’s not like I can go around acting like I am a Brigadier General.
I think what it is, Brian, is that people are usually going to take the word of someone of a certain age bracket without really wondering if they are full of shit, or not. Take the latest one “gunny Lauve” as an example.
And probably most of the folks who post here have a family member that is an embarassment and/or difficult to live and deal with. You know the deal; the minute you say something to or about them, your name is Mud.
Family is the last place I’d look for factual information about one of their members, unless they were all singing in chorus.
See? Even older men can be walking bags of shit.
It is unfortunate, but I have adopted an I don’t beleive it policy. Unless someone can offer specific details when telling ‘war’ stories, I tend to beleive they are full of crap. I wonder how many times I was fed a line of BS when listening to Vietnam Vets while I was growing up? I hope not as many times as I think.
if this guy had run a scam selling seniors “copper likenesses of Abraham Lincoln” which came for $30, only to turn out to be a penny, this guy would have been sentenced to serve the term consecutively. Really serving a concurrent sentence is like saying “well you did bad, and I’m upset with you but I’m not going to punish you for THIS.” Five bucks says the “unlawful wearing of a uniform” and “unlawful wearing of medals” will be thrown out on appeal, thanks OH so much to the ACLU.
I was a super Colonel !!!
I was abducted by aliens in 1974, they made me wear this ugly green uniform, sent me to the Ice Planet Hoth, (They told me it was Alaska, but I know the truth) where I had to walk all over the place in snowshoes, carry this thing they called an M-203 and fight a cold war against imaginary creatures they called Russians.
They told me I lost the cold war as it is still cold up there.
I was promoted to super colonel when they gave me this thing they called a DD-214 and I got to go back to the United States !!!!
I am sooooo special !!!!
@Old Trooper: I think part of it is a mental illness and part of it is wanting to be felt as important because they feel otherwise inadequate. Imagine my amazement when I heard that my Wife’s great uncle was just a mechanic for a few years AFTER WWII in the Air Force, but you wouldn’t guess it based on the way people treat him like he is some kind of war hero. Nice guy, but I question most war stories now.
I don’t think it’s a mental illness at all. I think it’s a selfish attempt to make yourself out to be a hero, or set yourself apart as something special, because you didn’t have the sack to do the shit for real.
You can’t really trust family members to get things right either. As an example, a woman died recently and in her obituary it stated she served in Korea during the war. According to my figures she was 16 the year, 1953, the war sort of ended.
I see stuff like that all the time. Guys that fought in ww2 that were too young to have been in that war.
This dude is lit up like a fucking Christmas Tree
