Anders Behring Breivik
So this weirdo, Anders Behring Breivik, has taken over the news cycle since yesterday and at last count cost 91 92 people their lives and several injured. That’s him in the picture above sent to me by Scott who says it a US Marine uniform and the picture was in his 1500 page word manifesto. I see a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, South West Asia Theater medal, a Valorous Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation and I think there’s a Vietnam Medal in there, too.
At Weaselzippers, they say he considered himself a “Marxist hunter” This is supposedly the video he put on the internet along with the 1500 page word manifesto about how he didn’t like the way the world was changing around him.
If that is his video, I think it’s a little strange how it’s all in English, as if he thought all of us Englich speakers would stand behind him or something.
I guess he spent an hour and a half blasting people, and not the little brown people he claims his whole demonstration was all aboute. At Stars & Stripes they intimate that SWAT helped him in his endeavor to kill copious numbers of innocent people because they decided to drive to the scene instead of taking their helicopter. I guess he surrendered as soon as the police confronted him…too bad they couldn’t have done that sooner.
As much as you believe Wikipedia, the gun laws in Norway are fairly restrictive. You have to have a reason like hunting or sporting to own a weapon. Self-defense isn’t an approved reason to on a weapon in Norway. And you have to have clean police record to get a permit and the police are allowed to search your house to insure you have your weapons stored properly – after they give you at least 48 hours notice that they’re on their way.
The last line of the Wikipedia entry might change in the near future;
There is no apparent public desire to introduce a concealed carry permit at this point in time, and there is no such license available to civilians.
UK’s Daily Mail takes advantage of this opportunity to take pot shots at Norway’s gun laws;
The fact that Breivik was able to perpetrate this monstrous deed is partly a reflection of the extremely liberal gun laws that operate in Scandinavia.
We can probably expect the same blather to come from the US press.

I also see a POW/MIA medal on the lower row middle. Above the unit citation awards on the very bottom.
Thats some mighty fine boughten swag that boy is wearing.
Mad as a hatter.
Why does the media always have to attach a bunch of crap to every nutbar that does something like this? It appears, although we don’t know for sure, that he was working alone and that he is seriously out of touch with reality. I noticed, too, that the British media, in their usual self righteousness, attempts to point out that all this could be avoided if there weren’t any guns around. I believe that it could have been lessened if there were better access to weapons by the general public in Norway. But that’s just me. There are always arguments on both sides of that issue and it won’t get ironed out here.
I smelled this turd from a mile away, as soon as the media started reporting that, quite to the contrary of some portraying him as some rabid islamist, that in fact he was anti muslim immigrant and the kind. As soon as those reports started trickling in, I knew that there was going to be a manifesto and then videos of himself. And wadda ya know, a 1500 word manifesto, and now youtube videos of him with guns, etc.
As predictable as they come.
This guy is in the same mould of the likes of the guy who shot Gabrielle Giffords, and the Virginia Tech shooter Cho. That is, those weirdos with a need for attention in this fame obsessed world of ours, and achieved in any way they can. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of innocent victims as these losers try to ‘one-up’ each other with huge body counts.
The 24 hour new cycle dosen’t help. The talking heads have to keep talking and there is only so much that can be said for “It’s a sad situation wrought by a crazy guy.” It’t the top of the heap right now and there is not much we can do about it.
[…] Borrowed from “This Ain’t Hell” from → Deep Thought, History, Justice, Music, National Security, War and Peace ← Conservative Hideout grabbed me for another Sunday compilation LikeBe the first to like this post. No comments yet […]
What a piece of work! This guy clearly felt like he was some kind of super soldier, its clear by the fact that he’s taken a number of American medals and jumble them up. I see AF medals in there, and I think, and I’m not sure on this, but I think the medals hanging below are Boy Scout religious medals. No idea what the shoulder tabs are, and the patch seems like something someone would iron on their backpack. the coat is certainly Marine Dress blues.
So he isn’t a Muslim as previously reported. He may just be the first christian terrorist I’ve ever heard of, but before I worry about a new Crusade, I think the hard Left ought to note that this guy is Bat Shit crazy, so calling him a Christian is a large stretch.
God bless the Brit press for riding the, “Guns are bad, m’kay?” talking point straight into the ground. How’s that violent crime rate of yours there, boys?
Jonn…
The norwegians I have met seem to have great command of the English language, so I personally am not surprised. OTOH, he could have been trained to learn this and use it to his advantage…Have you read the manifesto? Chilling and calculating.
Doc, in #8, this shitbird is no more a Christian than any member of the Aryan Brotherhood, or any member of Ratko Mladic’s militia.
And, the Brit media never fail to measure down, when the chips are down.
As for his “manifesto”, he comes across as a vain, self-centered, inadequate jerk. He couldn’t maintain a friendship with a female, much less a relationship, and had no friends, just people he kept at arm’s length. He saved all of his love for the only person deserving of it, himself.
The coat is a Marine dress coat, but this guy is wearing it as part of the uniform/regalia he developed for his own “Knights Templar” organization. That’s where all those various ref crosess come from. He developed this group, apparently has a bunch of members, and there are various “ranks” within it.
The shoulder boards are actually shoulder straps turned sideways. Why that is I haven’t a clue, but there it is.
There is also a picture floating around of this guy in Masonic regalia. As a 32nd degree Mason, it makes me very angry to think that any member if the craft would even consider, let alone commit, such a heinous act. I am beginning to think, though, that based upon this pic, he might have also created his own Masonic lodge, or quasi-lodge to go along with this “Knights Templar” hoopla. It wouldn’t surprise me. Freemasonry is dealing with a number of fake/illegal lodges both here in the states and in other nations. Unless the lodge is recognized by the Grand Lodge, it isn’t legit.
Regardless, this guy might claim all sorts of things, from Christianity to Masonry to being a Knight Templar, but that doesn’t make it so, and he’s certainly violated the moral and ethical teachings of all those groups by his actions.
I was in Norway for a Nato Exercise in 2002. Apparently English is apparently the primary language taught in schools and most of the people speak it.
This guy appears to be nuts and i don’t think any of us would want to be associated with him in any fashion. He does not espouse the Chritian Values I grew up with.
all norwegians learn english as a 2nd language in grade school. Norwegians from ages 40 and younger know it and speak it fluently. Actually if norwegians speak different dialects of norsk, it’s easier for them just to speak english to understand each other 😛
I was very surprised by my time in Norway. It was a beautiful country with a beautiful culture and people. I loved it there. It was the only country I visited that I felt like I could live for any length of time. But, I am an American boy and would never leave my country.
Where did the pic come from? The one I saw he had on some light blue kind of sash thing and said he was a freemason or knights templar or some such. I think one is photoshopped. Or he was really into uniforms.
“Extremely liberal gun laws”? He means extremely leftward, eurosocialist restrictive gun laws like the rest of nanny state big gov’t western Europe… because that’s what they are. No one within miles of his attack had any weapons, so the author was right… just not in the gun-bashing sense he meant for his left/liberal editor’s approval.
This nut job was as much a Christian as he was a Policeman.
He’s a Masonic Lodge European Nationalist. You can’t be a Christian and be in the Masonic Lodge.
I may attract flames here – especially when I say I am pro-sensible gun control. However, a few points come to mind – first, other than outright prohibition, in every gun control regime I know of Breivik would have been able to own at least the shotgun he did most of the murders with since he was a farmer and he had a quite clean police record – and a background check probably would not have uncovered a lot of this shit.
Separately, he seems to have been equipped with ammunition fragmenting dum-dum bullets that are as far as I know generally illegal for military use and indeed generally illegal in the United States. I also think the Ruger Mini 14 Tactical Rifle in the form he had it is also illegal in private ownership in the US.
So before people go mad on the gun control debate – consider the two points – 1. Gun control laws in most countries would have allowed him to own at least an ordinary rifle and shotgun as a farmowner; 2. But US gun control laws would have probably prohibited at least one of the weapons he used and the ammunition that contributed the the high lethality of his attack.
Finally, the security guard on the Island – an off duty police officer, who dies shielding a child from this guy was (a) among the first killed, (b) an off duty police officer , and (c) we do not know if he was armed but did not get a chance to shoot back.
This event contributes nothing to the gun control debate in other direction.

Separately, he seems to have been equipped his pistol and ammunition fragmenting dum-dum bullets that are as far as I know generally illegal for military use and indeed generally illegal in the United States – he also seems to have used unusual rounds in the Ruger 14 and the shotgun, stuff he may have bought in the Balkans. I also think the Ruger Mini 14 Tactical Rifle in the form he had it is also illegal in private ownership in the US and in most countries – so Norwegian gun control laws seem lax compared to even the US in some respects.
