Security Council authorizes no-fly zone
Yeah, it sounds unbelievable, doesn’t it;
The U.N. Security Council passed a resolution endorsing a no-fly zone to halt government troops now around 100 km (60 miles) from Benghazi. It also authorised “all necessary measures” — code for military action — to protect civilians against Gaddafi’s forces.
But time was clearly running short for the city that has been the heart of Libya’s revolution.
Residents said the Libyan air force unleashed three air raids on the city of 670,000 on Thursday and there has been fierce fighting along the Mediterranean coastal road as Gaddafi moves to crush the month-old insurrection.
French diplomatic sources said military action could come within hours, and could include France, Britain and possibly the United States and one or more Arab states; but a U.S. military official said no immediate U.S. action was expected following the vote.
Yeah, I wasn’t really expecting any US action. So let’s see how long it really takes to apply the necessary force.

After Obama’s indecision on Libya for so long, and mumblings that Clinton might leave, who the hell has any faith that the CIC will make the right decision if one of our pilots is shot down and paraded across television? Not I.
Thanks, dipshit.
How much you wanna bet there’s some overly elaborate special operation that Obama will favor that will blow up in his face a-la Desert One?
How long before the Senate proposes a declaration of war so that their favorite CIC doesn’t have to fight an “illegal war”?

I’m sure as Hell not going to hold my breath!
Well, I think a lot of it was posturing, since the only ones that really wanted to go in there was France and Britain. We are just along for the ride. While I am all for not putting boots on the ground or committing any US combat forces whether air or ground, I don’t like the fact that Bobo waited so fricken long to give the green light to the others. If all he had to do was convey his approval at the SC, then he should have done that 2 weeks ago.
Of course, we had a dress rehearsal for his swift decision making on foreign policy issues back during the campaign, when Russia invaded Georgia. McCain came out immediately to denounce the action by Russia while Bobo took over 3 days and many meetings with “advisors” before he could even make a statement. Clinton’s ad during the primary was spot on: “When the 3 am call comes in; will he answer it?” I guess not. But, it’s off to Rio for another vacation with the family.
Frankly, I’m getting to the point where those who are being overthrown are only being replaced by a marginallly WORSE faction.
Fuck it–let them all kill each other off, then we go in and take their shit. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t.
The Express has a story asking if Obama is the weakest president ever. A strong president with a good Secretary of State would have pointedly reminded Kaddafi of 1986 a few weeks ago…
let them fight it out. perhaps other countries can get involved like Egypt and Syria and they can fight it out. Nothing wrong with red on red.
Is it possible to get these annoying air strikes scheduled after the president’s tee time?
Has the POTUS asked permission from Congress?
Has Madea been consulted?
“When the 3 am call comes in; will he answer it? I guess not. “ Nope, it goes to voice mail, OT.
As for the “No Fly Zone”, let the Arab League enforce it, with the help of France. They’re the ones who seem to be leading on this, put up of shut up. I seem to recall that Egypt has an air force, the French and Italians aren’t all that far away.
Those in DUmmyland seem to be split on the subject:

“all necessary measures” from the UN means they can us regular copy paper to send the strongly worded letter, not the 24# UN-embossed letterhead.
