Walter Reed phony CSM gets 6 months

| March 10, 2011

I told you last year about Stoney Crump, the sergeant major at Walter Reed who faked his records to be more studly than he really was. The Army Times reports that Crump was sentenced to six months imprisonment and busted to staff sergeant – that’s three ranks.

Some of the offenses admitted by Crump include wearing six awards and decorations from March to December of 2009, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Arrowhead device, which indicates — contrary to military records — that he made a combat jump into Grenada. He admitted he wore a Combat Action Ribbon without authority since 2006 and, on three occasions, two or three unauthorized overseas service bars.

Prosecution tried to get his pension, but Crump pleaded with the judge to think of his family. The family which Crump had disregarded over the last few years while he told his lies. Ironically, Crump was working for Col. Gordon Roberts, at the time, the sole Medal of Honor awardee on active duty.

What is going on with military justice recently? First the Navy Senior Chief from Bahrain and now this….

He refuses to plead guilty to all charges, but then he claims to take full responsibility for his actions. But… immediately asks the judge to grant him leniency “for his family.”

Yeah…..that’s justice.

So now families get taken into account for determination of honorable vs dishonorable service. I’ll have to remember that…..maybe when the next E-9 goes to NJP and they take 1/2 x 2 I’ll request that the forfeited amount of pay reflects 1/2 of the entire family’s income for 2 months. (play that game and win that prize)

I’m guessing that he will only get the pension a SSG would rate?

I really have to say that his ‘convicted perp walk’ picture is a Visa card moment.

Beret put on awkwardly by an MP. Check.

Escorted by two big NCO’s to transportation headed for the nearest stockade. Check.

Handcuffs being covered by a polar fleece jacket so as not to overly embarrass the newest SSG in the Army. Priceless.

So SSG Crump have fun with your formerly ‘bad’ self.

Frankly, I’m a bit surprised Colonel Roberts wasn’t kicking his ass all the way to the paddy wagon, but then again, I shouldn’t be. He’s got too much pride and class for that.

Roberts

Did CQ with COL Roberts at that time he was a Captain. With the 44th Medical Brigade. Didn’t say much.
