Euros go to get their citizens out of Libya

| March 3, 2011

Blackfive writes about the Brits rescuing their trapped citizens and securing mustard gas stocks. Meanwhile, the Dutch sent their marines into Libya to get a citizen out and the Marines end up being hostages, according to a Fox News link sent by Old Trooper;

The three were surrounded by armed men on Sunday after landing near Sirte in a Lynx helicopter from the navy ship HMS Tromp, which was anchored off the Libyan coast to help evacuations from the conflict-torn country, spokesman Otte Beeksma told The Associated Press.

Dutch officials are in “intensive negotiations” with Gadhafi’s government to secure the marines’ release, he said.

“We have also been in contact with the crewmen involved,” Beeksma said. “They are doing well under the circumstances and we hope they will be released as quickly as possible.”

For once the Europeans are shouldering some of the responsibility.

Meanwhile, our president is honoring James Taylor with a Medal of Art

Obumbler is waiting, mulling, until he has a definitive leader there so he can go and bow before him. Why go now and waste the effort if the Daffyduck is on his way out?

It takes the oil companies spending their own money to get their people and others (Like Code Pink) out of danger. I guess those “obscene profits” aren’t so obscene after all when you spend them to rent planes to evacuate your own people?

Perhaps the Nobel committee has created the Nobel Prize for Doing Nothing In a Crisis, and Ears figures he can’t two-peat for the Peace Prize?
Meanwhile, I’m sure he’s busy either a.planning the next Saturday Night Party at the WH or b.planning his next vacation.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the U.S. has done anything, at all to help the New Zealanders, after the quake. I have yet to see anything about a carrier laying off their coast, or seeing Marines on shore, or CB’s or anything else, other than a blip about an “assessment team”, whatever that is?

Wait, wait! James Taylor is awarded the “Medal of Art” yet, I still have not been awarded an “Expert Driver” medal? Well WTF? Never lost anyone that rode in either the car or V-100 I drove. Oh wait, I forgot about that damn gopher I ran over.
