Accidental shooting at CA school

| January 18, 2011

A classmate apparently shot two other teens at Gardena High School.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District reportedly told local news outlets that the shooting was accidental. District spokesman Robert Alaniz said the gun was brought to school in a backpack and went off when the student dropped it — injuring the two victims with a single bullet.

How was it accidental? Did the student accidentally bring the gun to school? Accidentally drop the gun? How does someone accidentally shoot someone in their school?

That the school even used the word accidental pisses me off monumentally. There’s nothing accidental about a shooting in any school.

I guess I should be grateful that the shooter, who intentionally loaded a gun and brought it to school, hadn’t been seen talking to a military recruiter as the gun intentionally discharged.

Strange things, these accidents.

I don’t much belief in “accidents” and “coincidences” anymore.

Sometimes there is a question in my mind as to “Who caused this?”

Wish the speelchooker had left that at ‘I don’t believe in “accidents”….’

I grew up hunting regularly in Mississippi. I served 8 years in the US Army as a combat engineer. I held a CCW for five years in Texas. I have competed in SS and CDP classes in IDPA.

I have yet to see the magical firearm that discharges because it is dropped. A firearm discharges when it is loaded, a round is chambered, and pressure is applied to the trigger. I have yet to see the combination of all three of these things happen by accident.

Please someone tell me that this genius “accidentally” loaded his firearm, then “accidentally” chambered a round, then “accidentally” brought it to school, then “accidentally” caused some action to apply force to the trigger while it was “accidentally” pointing at another human being.

Some people should not be allowed to own firearms. These same people should not be allowed to eat with a fork.

Did I miss the part where it said it was Sarah Palin’s fault? Or is that tomorrows news?

If you’re a fucking mouth-breather from the hood in SoCal, and you learned how to shoot from watching TV, you’re probably apt to do something retarded like place a loaded, chambered, unsafetied, cocked pistol in your bag where any number of loose items might catch and pull the trigger. So yeah, I guess this shooting is “accidental.” Just like the drunk guy with epilepsy and an inner ear disorder who climbs onto the railing of his penthouse apartment balcony might “accidentally” fall off.

No such thing as accidental. Negligent, absolutely.

Scott: You know that a couple of big name athletes have accidentally shot themselves by carrying a loaded pistol in the waistband of their warm-ups; right? In fact, one of them (NFL wide receiver) went to jail because his went off in a nightclub in NY and almost blew his junk off (no he didn’t have a CCW permit). These morons with the banger wannabe mentality end up either shooting themselves or those around them just because they want to look tough. None of those idiots have ever heard of an inside the waist band HOLSTER! I know, they have to look tough with their Gat sticking out the front waistband of their pants when they front down in da hood, yo.

“Some people should not be allowed to own firearms. These same people should not be allowed to eat with a fork.”

Or breed, or have access to O2.

And spot on Chuck…this is a perfect example of a negligent discharge…no such thing as an “accidental discharge”.

OT: Yes, I remember all about the Plaxico Burress incident. Although, had he been an idiot in any city other than NY, the fact that he paid the price via a bullet in his leg would probably have reduced his sentence.

On a related note, athletes sometimes pay a disproportionate price due to their fame. Here’s a good piece about how Gilbert Arenas’ admittedly stupid prank was blown out of proportion to make him a whipping boy of the anti-gun DC legal system: http://reason.com/archives/2010/06/03/the-persecution-of-gilbert-are/1
