US citizen, Somalian teenager held in Kuwait

| January 6, 2011

The New York Times tells the heartbreaking story of a US citizen of Somalian heritage who traveled to Yemen, Somalia and now Kuwait and can’t understand why he’s being subjected to torture and imprisonment by Kuwaiti authorities;

The teenager, Gulet Mohamed, a Somali-American who turned 19 during his captivity, said in a telephone interview on Wednesday from a Kuwaiti detention cell that he was beaten with sticks, forced to stand for hours, threatened with electric shocks and warned that his mother would be imprisoned if he did not give truthful answers about his travels in Yemen and Somalia in 2009.

American officials have offered few details about the case, except to confirm that Mr. Mohamed is on a no-fly list and, for now at least, cannot return to the United States. Mr. Mohamed, from Alexandria, Va., remains in a Kuwaiti detention center even after Kuwait’s government, according to his brother, determined that he should be released.

See, he went to Yemen for about a month, but his mother got worried for his safety, so he went to Somalia for five months. Who does that? Since when is Somalia safer than Yemen? But anyway, then he went to Kuwait. That’s where Kuwaiti police cuffed and stuffed his ass in prison and the FBI put him on the no-fly list.

If his mother was really worried about his safety, she would have kept him in Virginia.

Funny how the UN will investigate the “torture” of Bradley Manning, but doesn’t give two shits about this kid…nah, that might actually be WORK.

And for the record, no sympathy from me for this kid or his mother. Who the hell lets a 19-year old kid travel halfway around the world and then claim they’re “concerned” for his safety?

10 bucks says he was an Al-Shabab recruit.

So the consensus is that if a teenager from a Somali-American family travels to Yemen and Somalia, that’s all the proof anyone needs to know that he’s a terrorist and that he deserves to be tortured. Gotcha.

I guess if you’re evil enough to have a name like “Mohamed” you deserve whatever you get, right?

Incidentally, northern Somalia is a lot safer than Yemen (read up on Somaliland).

@3 Adam, if I might ask, what is your first hand knowledge of terrorists in the middle east or any where else? Can you, with 100% assurance, tell me this kid wasn’t there for no good? In the last how many cases have Americans going to these 3rd world dung heaps , NOT, been going to join the jihadists?

Well its possible what he did was entirely innocent. But monkeys could also fly out of my ass. Its likely that he was actin the fool, and was little more than a eyes foot soldier wannabe that got what was coming to him
