Most advanced sub runs aground
Since there are no injuries or damage, we can all point and laugh at the Brit’s HMS Astute, the world’s “most advanced sub”. Apparently they don’t understand that to keep it undetectable, ideally the submarine should be under water. The reports are that it backed itself aground. No wonder. I don’t even see any back up lights let alone side mirrors.
Here’s a video of it being detected from all angles as it lays helpless off the Scottish coast.

That’s not gonna look good onnthe resume……
See this is what happens when you drive on the wrong damn side of the road.
Capt. to First Officer;
“I dare say, could you please assist the young lady in collecting her clothing while I go top side and sort this little mess? Right, there’s a good chap.”
Caot. to First Mate:
Oh, pooh.
Quartermaster to first officer;
“Ach no, I dinna see a sheep leavin the bridge sir.”
Not to worry Capt….remember we are undetectable….btw…what time does the tide come in?
It is in Sir!….Sod Off!! Sir i’d have to say we’ve gone balls up on this one!
Where’d they get the picture? The Russians?
Scottish Single Malt + English Navigator = Worldwide Photo Op
Obama must have done it!
…”Captain, I’m giving her all she’s got!!”
–Engineering Officer Scott–
Now, Joe, don’t be terse. Of course Obama had nothing to do with this.
Yeah, don’t be an idiot. It was, of course, Booosh’s fault. And everyone knows Booosh takes his orders from the Jooos. So I guess if we’re going to put the blame anywhere, it should be on the Jooos.
Sorry PintoNag,
Just trying to preemptively get that in there…….
Joe apparently isn’t falling for it, so I’ll replay the conversation I was hoping to have with him:
‘Joe: How do you know it wasn’t Obama’s fault, Pinto?’
‘Pinto: Because the sub’s still above water.’
(I know. That was really, REALLY bad…)
Oh, Joe! There you are. You’ll see what I had planned for you. It was just a little humor for a very LONG Friday.
Ditto, PintoNag. TGIF….
While backing up? What, no ground guide?
This whole bloody mess could have been avoided if the crew had only been wearing their reflective belts.
Is that a REAL submarine, or a decoy? Could it have been used to draw attention from a secret mission? If so, it worked. We will probably never know unless, WikiLeaks gets hold of the info.
Surface transits or being at periscope depth (or transiting to PD from depth) are some of the riskiest times for boats–look no further than the submarine CO’s that have been fired in the last few years and see if you notice a pattern, aside from the ones sticking their winkies in other people’s wives. Oh, and for the record, it’s entirely possible that the boat backed onto a rapidly rising shoal water before the fathometer (not located by the screw, for obvious reasons) would have ever picked it up.
That being said, someone screwed the pooch but GOOD.
This is what happens when you let alcohol on naval vessels.
