Do you know this patch?

| August 2, 2010

One of our readers sent me this picture of a patch she saw in a local store and asked me what unit it belongs to. I’ve searched high and low and can’t find it. I figured one of you folks recognize it and can help her out;

I figure it’s a National Guard unit (because I’ve never seen it) from a Western State, what with the spear and war bonnet – how close was I?

That’s a Spartan type helmet, not a war bonnet. I can’t make out the script at the bottom. I’m guessing that’s a custom made emblem for a specific unit, as opposed to a unit patch.

The pictured patch is from a National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP) unit. New Guard members begin to drill each month, even if they haven’t gone to Basic. RSP teaches them some of the basics, and helps to keep the recruits in good physical shape. That way recruits are ready for Basic when it is their time to ship.

I believe it’s the patch to the National Guard’s Recruit Sustainment Program. It’s for recruits to learn about what goes on at Basic, and should make the whole experience less stressful.

Yeah, I stand corrected. If you Google “National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program” you’ll see some different versions of it. I’ve never heard of it.
