Blue Skies, Frank McDermott

| August 2, 2010

Our buddy, Skye, at Midnight Blue wrote to tell us that one of the most cherished members of the West Chester Sheepdogs has passsed;

Today I received heartbreaking news from Rich Davis informing us that a fellow Sheepdog and World War 2 Veteran, Frank McDermott, had suddenly passed away:

I have very tough and sad news to relay. Our WWII vet, Frank McDermott, passed away yesterday afternoon (Saturday 7/31) at the hospital. Frank was probably our most loyal and most beloved sheepdog. For over 2 years he never missed a rally, even on the coldest days, in freezing rain or wind, he would show up on his scooter and take his spot on the corner.

TSO and I attended one of the rallies up there back on Flag Day, 2008 and a better bunch of patriots don’t exist. I’m sure Frank will be missed.

Blue skies, buddy.

These were men who truly changed the world.
God grant him peace.

AW1 Tim

God Bless him and all those of his generation.

My own father turns 92 this year. He was a Corpsman with the marines in the Pacific during WWII. If you know any of these men, try and get them to talk about their experiences, no matter how mundane they believe them to be, how unimportant they might consider them. Write it down or record it, because when these old fellows are gone, all those memories go with them.

AW1 Tim, agreed … My dad is 86 years old and served on the old diesel submarines in the pacific during WWII and retired after 30 years. He has no problem telling me what boats he served on and some of the ‘fun’ times (stealing an MPs whistle while on R&R in Hawaii) but talking about the serious side of it is like pulling teeth (no tha’s not why I’m called Toothless Dawg). The WWII vets are dying off pretty quickly now and their legacy deserves to be known for all time.

God bless you Frank McDermott, RIP and Welcome Home Brother!!!

Rest in Peace, Frank, and may perpetual light shine upon you.

Jonn, thanks for remembering this remarkable man. I will miss him dearly.
