Freakin’ hippies

| June 6, 2008

I read this over at Little Green Footballs and it’s so mindnumbing, jawdroppingly vacant of any rational thought, I just had to drag it over here for my readers. It’s from SF Gate (wherelse?) and entitled “Is Obama an enlightened being?”. Here’s the most offensive part;

Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.

The unusual thing is, true Lightworkers almost never appear on such a brutal, spiritually demeaning stage as national politics. This is why Obama is so rare. And this why he is so often compared to Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., to those leaders in our culture whose stirring vibrations still resonate throughout our short history.

How much pot does a human being have to smoke to reach this level of drivel? Dostoevsky once wrote that if a person talks nonsense long enough he’ll finally get to sense – Mark Moford writes this kind of nonsense for 17 paragraphs and never even gets close to the ballpark of sense.

Of course, because this pot-for-brains is so in tune with those enlightened folks he speaks about, the rest of us can never understand (what with our “cowering religious” facade and all) so we should just take the word of this blowhard and put the planets in line by voting for Obama.

So we’ve made the leap from this being an ideological struggle to it being a spiritual reawakening of the whole of mankind.

Wake me when the fountains run red with wine.

OTOH, there are those who think of him as kin to The Light Bringer. Specifically The Antichrist!

Sounds as though other, more enlightened, folks agree. This cult-like crap is far more frightening than his Marxist/Alinsky bent, as if that isn’t frightening enough.

Repubs throw at us beware the terrorist around every corner and nuke them before they nuke us scare but they seem terrified at the concept of one intelligent enlightened man leading this great country. What a novel idea.

Raoul Deming

richard wheeler,

Ayer’s wife, another Weatherman, said to an audience regarding the Manson group murder of pregnant Sharon Tate and friends, “Dug it, they offed those pigs, ate a meal in the room with the bodies, and stuck a fork in the stomach when they left, Wow…”

That’s a sick twited freak and your Obama looks up to her and her husband as “enlightened”.

And you’re sick too for supporting such an “enlightened” leader.

richard wheeler

Charlie was 30+ years ago.Ayers and his wife are irrelevent and any idiot knows Obama abhors those views as much as you or I.Give me something current thats real or something positive about your candidate.I’M FEELING GREAT.Semper Fi

“any idiot knows Obama abhors those views as much as you or I”

I don’t know what Obama believes in any more. He’s fliping n floping so much on the issues he reminds me of ole Kerry.

I voted for it before I voted against it. What a GREAT line.

richard wheeler

Gramps Great day in SOCAL.Sounds like Kerry rap.McCain flip flop on taxes, immigration,Hagee etc.Who do you like or is it wait till 2012 for a Coservative?

“they seem terrified at the concept of one intelligent enlightened man leading this great country.”

I normally don’t feed the trolls, but I had to ask you to read what you’ve written and confirm that’s what you meant to say?

Sounds like the benevolent dictator scenario to me. And that IS, indeed, frightening.

Sorry Jonn, my curiousity got the better of me.

richard wheeler –

If William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn are so irrelevant, why did Obama choose to launch his political career from their living room? Because Ayers, a Distinguished Professor and Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois and his wife, a professor of law at prestigious Northwestern University, remain highly respected and influential figures within Leftist circles. To say that these two former Weatherman leaders were banished from acceptable society decades ago on account of their terrorist backgrounds reflects either ignorance or dishonesty on your part.

The reason Barack Obama’s ties to Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn are current is because it reveals the political and ideological milieu from which Obama first emerged and currently resides. And if you’re really looking for something positive about BO’s opponent, you can start with the fact that John McCain, despite his many shortcomings and failings, never resided within the political and ideological milieu inhabited by Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama.

I could give you plenty of more positive reasons for anyone to support John McCain, but this thread is about the vapid cult of personality surrounding Barack Obama, isn’t it? Would you care to comment on this Moonbattery or are you stinking drunk on the Kool-Aid, too?

Raoul

Wheeler,

Old hippies haven’t changed and they’re hanging out with Obama. You can not rehabilitate people who “dig it” when you kill people for kicks.

And Obama’s down with those two.

The only thing I wish for you is that Dohrn select your basement the next time she plays with her chemistry set.

And the hits just keep on coming.Hell I took less incoming as a Marine company commander in Viet Nam.I love it.The hatred from the right directed against Obama is exactly what will elect him.Americans are tired of this B.S. Most of you chicken hawks have never seen combat and are chest thumping wimps. How bout you Raoul. What makes you so tough? To Mike I say lets talk after a couple of debates.Barack does pretty well for himself.Lets see how McCain holds up.To the vets I say thank you for serving. It’s time to enjoy the weekend.

Makes me think of “Obama Wan Kenobi”.

Clearest evidence yet that it IS a cult. If you get a min, go to the SF Gate site and read the comments.

Bad acid or bad ju-ju, not sure which.

Army Sergeant

I’m going to vote for Obama, because he supports the GI Bill for the 21st Century, and ending the Iraq occupation.

I’ll admit it. I am being very single-focused in voting on those issues.

It’s not because he’s a “Lightbringer” or something, it’s because I don’t want to be in Iraq for 100 years, and still not getting a college education for it.

McCain has betrayed the troops he once served with.

Jonnn wrote: Ah, the “100 years” faerie tale – I expected better from you, Selena. Betraying the troops would be pulling out now and surrendering Iraq to al Qaeda and Iran.

Zee,

Please try to be quieter with your Obamagasms, it’s embarrasing. My 6 year old daughter comes with very little baggage too, should I vote for her? Obama is long on talk and short on action and experience. I’ll stick with Mac thanks.

LOL!

It’s a new age term for those who volunteered, before birth, to help the planet and its population heal from the effects of fear. Yeah, if you clicked on that link, you’ll see that this BS was written by a PHD. How much you want to be she went to Cal Berkeley! 🙂

Obama is attracting these nutcases because he’s the left’s messiah. Just let them keep on talking their nonsense!

“In the Buddhist context, bodhisattva (Sanskrit: bodhisattva; Tibetan: jang chub; Thai: , phothisat; simplified Chinese: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: púsà) means “enlightened (bodhi) existence (sattva)” or ‘enlightenment-being’ in Sanskrit. Another translation is “Wisdom-Being.”[1] The various divisions of Buddhism understand the word bodhisattva in different ways, but especially in Mahayana Buddhism, it mainly refers to a being that compassionately refrains from entering nirvana in order to save others.

The Bodhisattvas are honored in many famous artworks and sculptures of the Bodhisattva at the Chinese Puning Temple, built in 1755.”

How did you only do a year vice the normal 13 months for Marines? Get hit?

I was in Portsmouth Naval hospital with an engineer. They were on a road sweep, he jumped the culvert & landed on a mine. Blew the crap out of him, but fortunately he survived.

Hey Gramps You told me that engineer casualty story on Cobb’s site and again I’m sorry to here it. The mine situation in Iraq is even worse and rhe engineers are earning their combat pay. Was in V.N early Nov.67 till late Nov68 just under 13 months which was,as you stated, standard tour length.Tomorrow in San Clemente on Del Mar Ave from 11=4 classic car show.At noon I’ll be at Marine Corps monument end of Del Mar near pier. You’re there on Harley proud to meet you and buy you a cold one or two.No politics.Richard

Old Iron

I know I am a little late to the party, but my main concern about Obama is what will happen when he does NOT win. I am currently on a job in Nigeria and these idiots out here are going nuts over the guy. Biggest word on the street is that he is going to redirect all of the defense spending that is crrently allocated to the Mid East and direct it towards Africa… which of course will not happen, but the idea of it occurring has taken this place and it’s populace like wildfire.

If he does not win the election and I’m going to see riots happen here that will make the response to the Mohammed cartoons look like a Sunday outing at the park.

-Don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand the sideways-talking bastard, but I have a bad feeling about this.

Oh, alright, Jonn, I will confess that I don’t think he /wants/ to be there that long, he’s simply /willing/ to be there that long. To be perfectly frank, I’m a bit of an isolationist at heart. I’d rather we take care of ourselves first, and only attack countries that directly attacked us. I’m not that fond of the “World’s Policemen” title. McCain is not the worst candidate, and to be perfectly honest, if he’s elected I won’t cry in my beer too much. He is against torture, and he’s served, and he’s been a POW. It completely mystifies me though why he is against the GI Bill. To me, it smacks of “What you kids have suffered isn’t war, and you don’t deserve anything we didn’t get”, and that bothers me on a fundamentally deep level. I respect a lot of people who are for the war. You and Seavey, for example. I’d count that other gent who showed up with you, but he didn’t have the cajones to hand me the literature he gave everyone else, so he’s off the list. However, I’m not voting for either of you, because I want the war over, and I don’t particularly /like/ protesting. I’m cantankerous. I really would prefer this war were over now so I can go back to the business of protecting my country, thankyouverymuch, and taking care of my career. Or seeing if it’s even salvageable, or if I’ll be politely requested not to reenlist. Only time will tell. If that’s the sacrifice I have to take for doing what I feel is right, that’s what I’ll have to take, but….eh. It is what it is. Jonn wrote: McCain said “100 years” because he meant stationing troops in Iraq like you’re stationed in Germany right now. Does it upset you to be there? Now you and your buddy Obama would like the rest of us to think he meant to keep a war going for 100-years, but he meant to keep the peace using the same strategy we’ve been using for more than 60 years. The reason… Read more »

Richard,

FWIW, the bulk of my postings got lost in limbo Friday night after I started “dreaming” and popped up again Saturday night in that thread about “Hale is Mad as Hell”. That’s why my subsequent postings have a flavor of “Beuller ????…….Beuller????”.

The ONLY reason I’m taking the time to post THIS one is that from what I’ve seen of Jonn (admittedly not a whole huge lot) if he says something is the case, I would bet the rent money.

He may occasionally be mistaken as anyone can but IMHO, the implication of “But hey, you’re the C.O.and I accept the explanation” might be unwarranted.

At least if the intent is, “Sure, that’s the ticket…..whatever you SAY”. I do hope that I am wrong about it.

Jonn wrote: Those posts of yours got caught in the spam filter, too, and I fished them out yesterday morning. Thanks for your trust.

Not suckin’ up or anything like that, Jonn.

I just hate snark (especially when it’s followed by sweetness and light) but WTF do I know. 🙂

Guess I’ll go back to “dreaming” now.

Be well.

Gramps

Wheeler, can’t make it today, but we’ll hook up sometime. I never turn down a beer 🙂 San Clemente not that far away from me.

Gramps

Fee speaks: I’ll come right out and say it. I was 18 in 1988. But if i were 18 in 1968…..I’d be one of those guys who took a lot of acid and stayed out of it.

And again: I don’t understand why we put our boots on their soil, which simply agitates them

I take then that you’ve never been in the military. Perhaps that’s why you think you can win a war without boots on the ground. Airpower is an awesome thing, but you still need boots on the ground if you intend to win.

ArmySergeant

Jonn, you said: McCain said “100 years” because he meant stationing troops in Iraq like you’re stationed in Germany right now. Does it upset you to be there? I actually oppose permanent basing in Iraq. I think it would set a really bad precedent. Permanent basing in Germany was necessary at the time, but we also fought a very different type of war. Besides, Germany doesn’t upset me, but I don’t have my liberties curtailed here. I’m still free to drink delicious delicious beer, and I don’t have to wear a veil if I go outside. I’m also, for the record, against Saudi Arabia, too, until they stop treating our female servicemembers like lepers. They’re every bit as bad as a lot of the countries they rail against. Jonn wrote: OK, so we’ll only liberate countries that you approve of from now on. Please submit a list to our committee for consideration. The reason McCain opposes Webb’s GI Bill is because it encourages troops to get out after their first term, while the version McCain supports gives a better benefit the longer they stay in. I would believe this, if McCain’s bill had similar benefits with a longer enlistment. This is not the case. Even if I stayed in 20 under McCain’s plan, I would not achieve the level of benefits that Webb’s bill offers. If McCain’s plan offered the same level of benefits but with longer service and transferability, I might consider it. But McCain’s bill still does not cover living expenses, or the more expensive colleges. Jonn wrote: You’re wrong – the other bill does give bigger benefits for longer service. That wasn’t even close to a good dodge. In other words, Webb is trying to put the military in a bind for retention of their experienced mid-grade enlisted. It’s Webb’s way of drawing down the military and make it a hollow shell. How is that good for anybody? I don’t think that’s his intention-the man has a son serving, I think he’s got noble aims. I also think we’ve /already/ got a retention bind right now, and… Read more »

Jon and Army Sergeant Good morning.I believe both bills are acceptable and both men are strong Vet. advocates and have Marine enlisted sons serving in Iraq.McCain’s bill seeks to reward longevity while Webb believes his bill will increase enlistment.Worth debate but not derision.
