President Trump considering deploying special operations into Iran as an option
President Donald Trump is weighing several options regarding the ongoing military operations against Iran. One of these options includes deploying special operations on the ground against Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles. Trump said that if this were to happen, it would occur later when it would be less risky to do so. There is a report suggesting that Iran has roughly 450 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%.
From Breitbart:
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested the possibility of a ground operation had not been ruled out, saying U.S. forces could move in at a later stage of the conflict if necessary. “Right now we’re just decimating them, but we haven’t gone after it,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s nuclear material. “But something we could do later on. We wouldn’t do it now.”
Axios reported Saturday that U.S. and Israeli officials have discussed sending special operations forces into Iran to secure the regime’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium once Tehran’s military capabilities are sufficiently degraded.
The outlet reported that Iran possesses roughly 450 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, material that could potentially be converted to weapons-grade fuel within weeks.
According to the report, officials have debated whether the material would be physically removed from Iran or diluted on site by nuclear specialists working alongside special operations units, possibly including scientists from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted at the challenge earlier this week during a congressional briefing when asked if Iran’s uranium would be secured.
“People are going to have to go and get it,” Rubio said, without specifying which country’s forces might carry out such a mission.
A U.S. official told Axios the operational questions remain complex, including determining the precise location of the uranium and how troops would safely reach and secure it.
“The first question is, where is it?” the official said. “The second question is, how do we get to it and how do we get physical control?”
Semafor reported Friday that the possibility of a special operations raid on Iranian nuclear facilities has long been studied by the U.S. military and Israel, including plans developed by U.S. Central Command for potential commando operations targeting sites such as Isfahan.

God speed!
We continue to leak what should be classified info regularly.I am continually amazed at how much real life resembles the conversation in “Airplane” when Stryker tells the girl when they will attack, from what direction, etc. but when she asks for something almost irrelevant (When will you be home?), THAT’s classified. Or maybe it’s a deeper game – “tell them we are coming and we’ll see where they boost their defenses to confirm our target info.”?
I had OPSEC beat into my brain so hard that I , even today, burn my mail and prescription bottles, etc.
Thank the lord! I thought it was just me!
Putting the band back together?
That looks like Kurtz’s B team back in ‘67.
Let’s see.
Bottom center is the talented Marine Lance Corporal Scott Glenn (CPT Richard Colby).
Above him center is Sam Bottoms, (Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Lance Johnson/ AKA 1LT Webber Gardens of Stone, a tough watch, was also the kid rebel in the Outlaw Josey Wales).
Far right is Vietnam Veteran CPL Charles Robinson (“Soldier with Colby”). Probably most famous for being on Night Court.
Far Left should be Navy Veteran Helicopter Crewman Nick Nicholson, who played in several different uncredited roles in the film.
Top Screen center with no head is the legendary Dennis Hopper (American Photojournalist).
The other two (face mask and camo paint) I have no idea.
Oh and BTW, Glenn credits his Marine training with preventing Coppola from making a life threatening mistake, which resulted in him being promoted from uncredited extra on the film to named part. Which gave him the opportunity to be on the set with Brando and Hopper and got him his first big break in film.
I thought maybe he stopped Coppola from getting up into R. Lee Ermy’s grill. Ermy was one of the military advisors on the film.
Ermy plays a helicopter pilot in the film as well. I think it was cut from the original but he is definitely in the extended version.
Perhaps someone can help me out here. I make it at (from left to right)
Soldier 1
Mat 49 SMG
Soldier 2
Madsen M50 SMG
Soldier 3
Norinco Type 56
Maybe 1911 tucked in holster
Soldier 4
Ithaca 37
Soldier 5
Some kind of Mauser action rifle?
Philippine Resistance Revolver w/ trimmed barrel
Soldier 6
Remington 700 Rifle
Remington 870 SBS
Anyone know what kind of rifle Soldier 5 is holding? To me it kind of looks like an Enfield. My knowledge on those old bolt guns is limited.
Number 3 is an a AK-47. I had an East German one for part of my tour.
Could be a ChiCom type 56 (Chinese AK47) but it lacks the underfolding bayonet. The CPT in the beret could have a Winchester model 1897 trench gun, circa WWI.
The shotgun is definitely an Ithaca 37. There is a deleted scene where he kills Dennis Hopper’s character with it. Cuppola felt it drew too much attention from Kurtz’s death scene and cut it out after filming it. Wish I had link to that scene.
The other is for sure a Norinco 56, they were widely available as the Philippine Army and police used them. If you look at the other scenes in the film with AKs they are all Norincos.
As if they aren’t already there, riiiiiiight.
I’m kinda thinking the spec ops boys have been there since shortly before the Shah fell.
I’m sure they were there before the first bomb even fell. That is how it starts.
Could this have something to with boots on the ground? Seems to me it might be related.

Yeah because SOCOM is totally not in Iran currently…
I’m waiting for the book by Meal Team Six.
Securing the stockpile is definitely critical. Even if it never got enriched further that is a metric crap ton of dirty bomb material there. We all know how much the folks in that region and religion LOVE their bombs. Detonating one with a single kilo of uranium would create a huge issue wherever it went off. IMO we need to secure that material sooner rather than later.
As I recall, the original mission of the Special Forces was to organize and train guerilla forces to liberate a oppressed people; “De Opresso Liber” and all that. The situation in Iran certainly seems to fit that description. All that “Rambo” commando stuff is mostly mission creep best left to folks like the Seals.
Back in my day, UW (unconventional warfare) was the primary mission we trained to conduct. The Special Forces A team was specifically designed to conduct UW ops. It is what we did in all our FTX’s in the 10th SFGA in the ‘70’s.
