Dem mayors in action

Dollar-Black-Hole

Where to start – let’s see, West Coast, big cities division, ridiculous politicians doing stupid things. In a somewhat saner world, there’s always that one flakey who-elected-THEM pol… on the left Coast, there is a several-way tie at almost every level. We’re gonna look at a couple of mayors.

San Francisco is almost always an easy target – as the largest population megalopolis in the north of the state, they run the show. Who have we seen from there? Well, there was  Dianne Feinstein, the Senator you loved to hate ( for 31 interminable years) whose co-Senator became Barbara Boxer (who was ‘only’ a Senator for 24 years and was succeeded by Kamala Harris, who needs no introduction (except maybe to coherence?) and,  well,  ‘SanFranNan Pelosi.  Well, we got us an up-an-comer in the person of San Francisco Mayor Dan Lurie.

The mayor of San Francisco signed an ordinance that creates a “Reparations Fund” that could one day grant each of the city’s eligible Black residents up to $5 million in reparations for alleged historic discrimination and displacement.

The ordinance, which was passed by the Board of Supervisors earlier this month, was signed by Democrat Mayor Daniel Lurie two days before Christmas.

Quick search says there are about 55,000 black San Francisco residents.  I’m notorious for adding or losing zeroes, but that looks like around $265,000,000,000?

It establishes the legal framework for the fund but does not allocate funds or guarantee payments. The fund can be financed with private donations, foundations and other non-city sources.

Any taxpayer-funded reparations payouts would require separate legislation, an identified funding source and mayoral approval. Lurie told Fox News Digital that no taxpayer money would be paid into the potential pot, given the city’s $1 billion budget deficit.  Fox News

So he signed in an UNFUNDED potential quarter-TRILLION dollar payout scheme. So people who have never been slaves will get the money from people who never owned slaves and there is no mechanism to generate that kind of money in place.  Boy, if that doesn’t just scream “Democrat funding” I don’t know what does…

Then we get to Seattle’s Mayors.  It’s even harder to separate the stupid there. Mayor Harrell, who  is on the way out, signed an ordinance last fall:

On Tuesday, the Seattle City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that declares a public health emergency, temporarily banning grocery and pharmacy chains from enforcing anti-competition covenants that could keep people from accessing fresh food.

These “negative use restrictions” allow companies to block their rivals from moving onto their former lots. The ordinance will expire in one year, unless council extends it or terminates it early.

In fact, the newly established law isn’t retroactive to existing restrictive covenants, meaning it will only ban any prospective agreements.

So if a Kroger’s closes down (as has happened) they can’t keep another grocery store from taking over the property and opening a new grocery store.  Supposedly the law is trying to stop the spread of “food deserts” where neighborhoods have no good source of fresh food. In practice… while there can be a $1500/day fine,it only lasts a year and only addresses potential closures.

Not to be outdone, Mayor-elect Katie Wilson (well, Friday she is just Mayor as she is sworn in) has an even more radical plan. Grocery store? Can’t close. Too much crime and theft in your neighborhood killing your profits?  Suck it up.

Wilson said during her mayoral run that corporate grocery chains should not be allowed to only sell food to those who can afford it and expressed support for a “public option,” meaning that government-run grocery stores would be established. Her proposal emerged at a time when Democratic New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani had promised to establish government-run grocery stores throughout the city.

What has a government run more efficiently than private enterprise – ever? Buehler? Buehler?   “Occupy A&P” – huh?

Supermarket mogul John Catsimatidis told the New York Post in August that government-run grocery stores are doomed to fail, pointing to one in Kansas City, Missouri, which closed after substantial taxpayer losses and issues such as shoplifting.  IJR.com

I would doubt from his background that Mr. Catsimatidis is unbiased – but that also doesn’t mean he is wrong. Somehow I am hearing Rod Serling’s voice saying “imagine, if you will, an open grocery store with no food on the shelves nor money in any register”. May say Kroger’s on the outside, but chirping crickets on the inside.

Is this the same Seattle mayor who still has her parents supporting her and helping her pay her bills? If so — not surprised.

“You can’t close!”

Leftists don’t live in any form of reality.

She takes money from them to stay afloat. She has never made more than $75k a year living in one of the most expensive cities in the US. Lobbyists for free bennies from the government don’t make much. She was paying $2200 a month in childcare and her husband is unemployed. Times are tough when only 96% of the country has a job. One has to lean on the collectivist system. He, as an unemployed day laborer has to set the example for the kid.

Common sense says that for $2200 a month the husband could watch the kid; but as noted above, sense isn’t always common.

At least the last mayor was kind enough to give his own husband a series of public jobs like Director of Parks and Recreation.

Need to update this with Commie Mamdani’s city council passing legislation that a New Yorker selling a multi-family building in NYC MUST first wait six months to let the city buy it. And if the city doesn’t, and a private citizen does, then the seller has to again offer it to the city at the buyer’s price. Admittedly this was passed just before his inauguration but, no doubt, he heartily approves. It starts in six months, so look to see some quick sales soon.

I don’t see anything wrong with that because after all, the majority of residents from the nyc 5 bouroughs elected the Commie into office..I wonder how that will go in Little Italy or Dyker Heights, Capishe.

They should get Paul Pelosi to manage the fund, I hear he is better than average at making investment decisions.

I’m thinking calling someone a Democrat is just way to call someone retarded without hurting their feelings. Like when someone shows you their UGLY baby, and you just say “Isn’t he or she breathtaking?”.

This is an example of why it’s the Democrats who love the uneducated. From what has happened during history, reparations are intended to restore what had been taken away or destroyed. It’s the recipient of the reparation who lost something to begin with that is now being “restored” with the reparations.

What have Blacks living today lost as a result of slavery up to the 19th Century? The newly freed Blacks of that time were the ones who would have had a leg to stand on calling for reparations, as they lost something from the get-go. They got what they wanted, what they called “the great breakout,” as well as demands for plots of land and an opportunity to work their way up in society.

How many generations have had free rides so far via welfare and public housing, both products of LBJ’s “War on Poverty” which has KEPT them in the dumps!

Bite the pillow, democrats. Your elected “leaders” are going in dry. And always remember, never forget, this is what you voted for.

Marine0331

The idiots that voted for him will get what they asked for eventually, and I don’t feel a bit sorry for them. The shit pot they created for themselves won’t affect me and my family immediately as we do not live in New Yawk, BUT in time, I fear that this Muslim shit could spread rapidly. They hate this country with a passion and want to destroy America from within, and they do it openly with a smirk on their face knowing that they are meticulously completing what they started on 9/11. I just can’t imagine what this world will look like if they take full control. I probably won’t live to see it if it were to happen, but my daughter and my grandchildren will have to suffer through it. I know the Dems are Lib-tard, bat-shit crazy and the old-school Dems who were good people are either dead or keep their thoughts to themselves so the only people who can stop the spread of this hateful shit is the Conservative movement. I really can’t see it spreading too far before the vast majority wise up and fight back, but if this runaway train keeps rolling, God help us all.

It isn’t the “Muslim stuff” that is the problem. It is the communist stuff.

Marine0331

Call me an anti-Islamist if you will, and so I guess I incorrectly equate Muslims with hateful, murderous acts like 9-11 and being antisemites. I know not all Muslims are hateful, but I believe that many are and many of them hate this country. So, while you may be correct in saying it’s the Communist stuff and not the Muslim stuff, I’ll just go on believing that the Muslims stuff is a problem too.

Marine0331

But thanks for correcting my opinion.

timactual

“It isn’t the “Muslim stuff” that is the problem.”

Yet.
The Brits and most of western Europe may disagree.

Marine0331

Not to keep beating on this but hitting the USS Cole, taking out the twin towers and the Boston Marathon bombings were not communist acts. They were hateful terrorist acts…..just to name a few. I agree whole heartedly that Communism is a major problem and gaining steam in this country, but I also fear the hatefulness in the eyes of Commie Mamdani and others like him. There I said it. Others like him. Sharia law doesn’t like much of what those of us that aint like them do. Keep that in mind as well.

People who were never slaves, promised money from people who never owned slaves, in a state that never permitted slavery, in a totally unfunded mandate.

Yup. They went Full Retard.

Almost as funny as the socialist bash thrown to celebrate Madmani’s regime.

No food. Lots of barricades.

He hadn’t been in 24 effing hours and folks went without food “unexpectedly”.

The Supervillsin Lair swearing-in was perfect.

No portapotties either.

This is New York. That’s what alleys and subway elevators are for.

BTW: Not just New York…pretty much every big liberal city. The week before my hip replacement surgery (two weeks ago now…I’m recovering well, thanks) I was in Atlanta for work. Traffic in Atlanta is hell and parking in downtown hotels is about $40 a day so let’s just say I saved myself some aggravation and the company some money by not renting a car.

I couldn’t navigate stairs very well because of my hip and several of the subway stations I frequented had escalators out of service. Every time I took one of the elevators I had to hold my breath because every one of them reeked of piss.

Oh well…count my blessings: at least no one stabbed me, lit me on fire or threw me onto the tracks, so I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.
