Sounds great, but don’t get too excited

Seems a deal was reached Sunday in the Senate to end the government shutdown.
The key is that the Republicans guarantee talks on extending Obamacare subsidies.
As part of the deal, Democratic negotiators agreed to ensure at least eight members from their caucus would vote “yes” on procedural motions to advance the government funding package. That would provide certainty that the 60-vote procedural threshold is consistently met up until final passage, where only a simple majority is required.
Bear in mind that funding bills have to go back to the House. The Republican majority in the House is sufficiently slim that some Democrats believe they can stop the deal and some, notably Hakeem Jeffries, will probably push to get their extension language in the bills rather than later.
The Sunday vote would pave the way for consideration later this week of a legislative package that would fund the Department of Agriculture and the FDA, the Department of Veterans Affairs and military construction projects, and the operations of Congress, for the full fiscal year — the product of months of bipartisan, bicameral negotiations between top appropriators.
ll other agencies would be funded through Jan. 30, according to the text of a continuing resolution released Sunday.
As part of Democrats’ agreement to end the shutdown, Thune is promising Senate Democrats a vote in mid-December to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that are due to expire at the end of the year without Congressional action. Democrats will also get to determine what extension bill receives that vote.
The government-opening agreement guarantees that federal employees laid off during the shutdown are re-hired and gives federal employees backpay. It also would require agencies to give written notice to Congress about the withdrawal of the so-called reduction-in-force notices issued during the funding lapse, plus provide the amount of back pay owed. So in principle a deal has been reached; the bad news is that people with no principles can and probably will try to torpedo it in the House. Still, it’s better than we were Friday.
Anyone want to volunteer as a door guard in Congress to lock ’em in until a deal is reached? I suspect that line would be at least as long as the one which will form when Jane Fonda’s resting place is revealed.

Will the “guarantee talks” be just a wink and a nudge? Yeah, they promised guarantee talks, but made no concrete date as to when that would happen from anything I have read. Granted, they just voted last night so time will tell who gets what.
I say hold the talks after the affordable care act expires.
I’d really love to see a Republican health care plan to replace the ACA before we jettison something folks rely on.
Rushing things a bit? They’ve only had what, 12 years, to come up with a plan – and bupkus?
At least “thumbs down” McCain is dead so Repeal and Replace has a chance now.
Republicans need a plan to replace it with though.
If they can come up with a better one, that doesn’t have hugely negative impacts (like kicking people with pre-existing conditions off insurance), they could call it “TrumpHealth” and I’d happily support it.
Maybe something like getting back to heath care instead of wealth care?

“Rely on” is a strange way to say “forced upon you”. Remember how Obamacare came to be?
More like BOHICA.
Has anyone else noticed that the “Obamacare” moniker that Obama was so proud of is no longer in popular use by democrats? It’s now referred to as the Affordable Care Act, the original lie.
Obamacare was a cruel joke for those that had to be insured with it. The premiums ended up not being affordable without massive buy-downs by the government. Moreover, the high annual deductibles of thousands of dollars. Made it useless for families that had routine health care needs. But the insurance companies got rich, and states and the feds hired more gov’t workers to administer it.
I have an acquaintance that has 0bamacare. Because he and his wife are self-employed they are able to downplay their income to the point that with the subsidies they are only paying about $80 per month in premiums. But he has potentially life ending ailments that cost many tens of thousands in medical treatment annually. Each visit to the infusion facility costs several thousand dollars. So, for him, it is a great deal.
Here is a great explanation of the big picture on how 0bama care works: Here’s How Obamacare Really Works, and It’s Disgusting – PJ Media
It’s an unfortunate dilemma. A relative had to self administer infusions for a rare condition called Goodpasture’s Syndrome during Hurricane Katrina, having to evacuate and haul several cases of the IVsolution while hoping to reach a place we were to meet while the roads were still open, debris all over them. Highway north was heavily congested, no available room in any motel or hotel for hundreds of miles north, east or west. Meanwhile her home was being destroyed! Sometimes we feel challenged beyond our capabilities! It is comforting to feel our Heavenly Father’s support as we put our trust in Him.
Obamacare did not assist at all.
My guess is: no… he does not (or chooses not to) remember.
Can’t it be both? Some people absolutely rely on it. And you can argue that forcing people to get insurance was a problem, and that was struck down at the federal level years ago.
Can you see that some people, especially those with pre-existing conditions, benefit from the ACA?
I’d be fucking thrilled if Republicans actually can come up with a better alternative. But they’ve had years and years and there’s not even a concept of a plan, it seems.
Jock it.
We were fine before ZeroCare, also known as the Unaffordable Care Plan.
(Jock is a replacement word for Fuck in polite conversation)
They rely on it because they essentially have no choice. Democrats will never get behind any republican healthcare plan. They don’t want a workable, affordable healthcare plan. They want a 100% government funded, single-payer plan. That’s always been the goal. Obamacare was created to fail, a stepping stone to the democrats socialized medicine endgame.
First and foremost, the 0bamacare plan was intended to fail financially over time, so that it could be replaced with government single payer health insurance. The D-rats, especially the Proggy ones, wanted something akin to Britain’s National Health Service or as Bernie likes to say, Medicare for all.
Repeal and Replace! Now’s the time.
When we all get the same care and accommodations in our health care systems and facilities, more would consider endorsing. But… that’s a stretch.
That’s because the Democrats want to include all the illegal immigrants as well as the lazy Americans who just WILL NOT work! No, I won’t vote to support criminals, illegals, anti American agitators. Our representatives should not be paid until they have actually succeeded in representing us! No more FREE RIDES on private planes! Take the bus or Amtrak or drive. That’s how Americans travel.
No insurance consumer benefits from the ACA. Insurance companies benefit from the ACA. Bigly.
Will celebrate when it’s passed and signed. Only “the end of the beginning” as Churchil said.
“You said we would talk”
“OK, let’s talk.”
“I want to extend the subsidies for Obamacare.”
“No.”
“But you said we would talk!”
“We just did.”
THat imaginary conversation presumes that the RePubeLaTards have a backbone to say NO in the first place.
Surprisingly enough, they didn’t cave on the matter this time.
It’s been refreshing to see the Republican party exhibit spine for the first time in my lifetime (I’m one of the young bucks around here.)
Now, if they continue to exhibit spine, we might actually manage to steer this ship back in the direction of bipartisanship and actual negotiation, which would put the proggy movement in quite the bind, since they don’t want, or care, to negotiate. That might actually both staunch the bleeding caused by the last 15 or so years, and inspire more people to vote Republican, thus making it more likely the Democrats are forced to jettison the progs entirely.
A man can dream.
If one is going to dream, dream big.
It’s only Monday.
Isn’t the “continuing resolution” valid for only a couple months? Seems like we will be back here again in less than 90 days as long as there is no real budget.
Yes, January 30th, for most agencies:
https://www.politico.com/news/2025/11/09/government-funding-deal-on-track-to-advance-sunday-night-00644110
Keep it going until at least after Christmas.
We need to demonstrate what we don’t need.
I would rather dissolve congress and hold new elections with all current members ineligible to run.
That’s a “nuclear option” I’d love to see!
Wholeheartedly supported
With all the D-rat gerrymandering, you would just get a new band of grifting shitbirds.
Insurance Companies Love THE OBMACARE…!!!!
And the government too! They get to hire more people to issue more licenses and do ‘complaint and compliance “investigations”‘…
It’s a giant circle jerk of regulatory capture because “we’re professionals and shit!”
F*ckin’ crony boot lickers…
They especially like those high annual deductibles, so they don’t have pay most routine medical treatment like doctor visits.
To our guest (and any others here who’re similarly featheréd),
Just so you and I are on the same page, the government mandating or redistributing others’ wealth in the name of “health care”, or for any other personal-level responsibility is communism.
I do not tolerate communism, and be forewarned, I will become increasingly hostile to you and your shitty, evil ideas.
As always, go fuck yourselves you Pink Shitstains.
I’d go lock the fuckers in. Aint been paid since late September. Good thing I have some disability and retired pay…
Some of us will have to squat, but it’ll be worth it!
