Happy Birthday, Marines!

250th USMC Birthday Message
10 November 2025
A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS
Two hundred and fifty years ago, before our Nation declared its independence, a small group of men gathered in Philadelphia and formed a Corps of Marines. From that moment, our story has been bound to the story of America itself. A quarter of a millennium later, Marines remain at the center of our Nation’s defense. Ready to fight, ready to win, and ready to uphold the trust placed in us since 1775.
Across centuries, Marines have fought on distant shores and in desperate battles, earning a reputation for discipline, toughness, and valor. From the Revolution to the World Wars, from Chapultepec to today’s operations across the globe, every generation has proven worthy of the title Marine. They secured liberty, defended allies, and carried forward the promise of a free Nation, and a free world. We are the heirs of that legacy, and we are its stewards.
This anniversary reminds us that our standards are the foundation of our Corps. Honor, Courage, and Commitment are not abstractions, but the code that binds us to one another and to all who went before. Every Marine, in every clime and place, must hold true to these values. The conflicts ahead will demand nothing less.
I could not be prouder of the Marines I see serving today. At home, at sea, and across the globe, you carry forward our proud traditions with skill and ferocity. It is your discipline, initiative, and fighting spirit that anchor our Corps. The battles of the next 250 years will challenge us in new ways, but I have no doubt we will prevail. Happy Birthday Marines!
Semper Fidelis,
Eric M. Smith

All crayons are microwavable. Their shape does become a bit flexible.
Everything is microwaveable. Once.
Great, now I have a crippling urge to microwave a microwave.
Don’t forget these!
speaking of crayon candles, how about “Once Upon A Time” by Rochell & The Candles 1960 on Swingin…
When the Marines adopted me, they only gave me the broken crayons. Stoopid jarheads. However, they gave me morphine to carry in my pack which kept me happy. Love them.
Must admit, I never did have a taste for crayons, but I did eat the paste in first and second grade!!! I believe Sister Margarita even slapped me upside the head once or twice when she caught me. Marine DI’s couldn’t hold a candle to the Catholic nuns!!! LOL
No, naw, nonono, naw ain’tnoway, fer godsake, no, no NO.

Semper Fidelis and Happy Birthday to the Marines!
The devil dogs adopted me, thus I can share this emblematic calling card.
Happy Birthday, as well, Grimmy. To a fellow former resident of Camp Reasoner in Da Nang. You likely left just before my LRRP company replaced yours. I really enjoyed some of the gear you guys left behind. I had a new K-bar from that case of them left in the arms room. We actually used that 60mm mortar when we occupied that precipice patrol base overlooking the river. My supply sgt. had to trade many cases of LRP rations for four pallets of 60mm mortar ammo we weren’t authorized.
Amazing. Its a small world. 1st Recon struck its colors on Mar 15,1971, but left a company of about 200 of us. Our last teams came-in at the end of April and the Marines were gone by the 1st of May. A bunch of us corpsmen were the last to leave Reasoner on May 5th. Went to MACV until mid June. Saw my first strip show at MACV. It was a tough assignment.
Did you see a multi-colored hootch at Reasoner? We corpsmen didn’t much like the Chief who ran the BAS. Smoke bombed his hootch regularly.
[…] blog of the day is This ain’t Hell…, with a post on the 250th birthday for the Marines. Crayons will be in short supply (sorry, had […]

Happy Birthday to all of my brother and sister Devildogs!!!!
Well happy 250th birthday, Marines!!
Paraphrasing a certain double-awardee of the Medal of Honor, I suppose that “you sons-o’-bitches will live forever.”
Happy 250th Birthday Marines!
I swear, you don’t look a day over 75.
But we sure as hell feel it!
Happy 250th to my brothers and sisters!
HBD, USMC!
There is absolutely no way in the world to express our Mighty “OOOH RAH” in the proper form.
We came up with that far in advance of the Army’s weak copying introduction to popular culture through a movie that came out in 1992, and had such a GAY fucking title that I’m amazed it was promoted as a film about a military man.
And the Navy SEAL “HooYah” is something that came out of a bar somewhere when someone lied, and everyone else said; “Awwhh, that’s a buncha hooyah”.
Only MARINES could come up with a sound that made us special. And only MARINES can claim a special sound that makes us stand out from the crowd.
The rest of you? Retire your “hooyas” and “hooahs”, and other false attempts to sound like UNITED STATES MARINES. We cannot be matched, we cannot be beat. We are the masters of the deadly street.
OOOH [fucking]RAH!!!!
I’m a Marine forever. From 6October1976 until the end of fucking time.
MARK AMBROSE JAMES MCPHEE LAUER…UNITED STATES MARINE.
