Friday extremes

Gotta tell you, when I read this column Fox News the first time, I started looking for a Babylon Bee byline (more B-alliteration to go with Wednesday’s column.) Y’all better find a seat, make sure your heart meds are up to date, and smelling salts are handy.
Baltimore, that deathtrap at the top of Chesapeake Bay, one time per capita murder capital claimant, has seen their crime numbers drop like a fat trainee doing his first push-up. Why? Meet the Baltimore City State’s Attorney, the state prosecutor assigned to Baltimore, Ivan Bates.
The Democratic prosecutor is promising accountability after years of violent crime in the city, crediting a tougher stance on gun crimes and repeat offenders for a sharp drop in homicides and shootings.
Unlike many Democrat prosecutors, he understands that disadvantaged and minority VICTIMS matter, too, and that lenient prosecution, cashless bail (“y’all promise to come back now, y’hear?”) only benefits the criminals, not the community. Color me gobsmacked.
“A number of the victims within the community were also minorities and African Americans, and they have a right to be safe and free in their house,” Bates said.
“We wanted to make sure that everybody, didn’t matter your race, didn’t matter where you’re from, everybody has a right to be safe, and it wasn’t a Democrat issue, it wasn’t a Republican issue, it was a people issue. At the end of the day, there were too many murders, too much violence, and we needed to make a change.”
Violent repeat offenders? Five year MINIMUM sentence. The murder rate is down 22% since last year – think that is a coincidence?
“Hold violent repeat offenders accountable, especially with illegal handguns. We had too many murders, 300-plus murders for eight years straight. That’s a terrible number to have,” he said.
Data from the Baltimore Police Department shows 2,129 repeat violent offenders have been sent to prison under the new strategy – double the number under the previous administration.
At the same time, 64% of homicide cases have been closed, 44% of non-fatal shooting cases have been closed and non-fatal shootings have dropped by 19%.
Homicides fell 23% by the end of 2024 (201 vs. 261 in 2023) and non-fatal shootings dropped 34% (414 vs. 635). BPD also reported clearance rates above national averages in several categories.
Sounds like he paid attention when Richmond, VA operated Project Exile to target the baddies who preyed on the populace.
Man, a Democrat prosecutor who actually acts like a prosecutor. Now that’s a novelty.
May even be able to go to Lexington Market again without the body armor.

And then we get to little Greta Thunberg. First when she was released by Israel, she didn’t allege any IDF brutality. Seems her memory has been sharpened by hearing all of the other folks who are complaining of their inhumane treatment in “captivity” and she now says she was brutalized, too, and brought pictures, too.
“The suffering of Palestinian prisoners is not a matter of opinion — it is a fact of systemic cruelty and dehumanization. Humanity cannot be selective. Justice cannot have borders.”
One of the three images she cites as proof is of an emaciated Evyatar David.
The slides were part of a collaboration post with Thunberg, Yasmin Acar, a member of the steering committee of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition; the Gaza Sumud Flotilla and two other accounts. Fox News II
Just one tiny problem with her allegations… Mr. David is an Israeli who was taken by Hamas at the music festival (two years ago Tuesday for those who missed the date). The photo is a still from a video in which Mr. David was forced to dig his own grave (thankfully unused, supposedly.)
The country that gave us Greta Garbo, Britt Ekland, and Anita Ekberg gives us – this? And we thought WE had gone downhill…

Using a picture of an emaciated Israeli hostage to “prove” Israeli “brutality” in Gaza? Seems to me that’s more like proof little Miss Greta here is indeed truly “special”.
Think “short bus” special.
Regarding the Baltimore prosecutor: apparently there are still a few in the donkey party that haven’t swallowed too much of the Left’s poisoned Kool-Aid. For the sake of Baltimore’s citizens, may he continue the good work.
Hondo, you and David are better humans than I am.
I am playing the Deep Game, and I want Democrats to fail, completely, because their “big tent” gets constantly hijacked by the radicals, and a good prosecutor like that guy will only give more legs to the Democrat party, extending their hold on power, but it will not solve the problem.
The Democrat Party is the party of slavery. Not just slavery of the body, but slavery of the mind, especially in their current incarnation, focused on collectivism. They have to be completely defeated in the political arena for America to survive as founded, with the values and constitutional freedoms our founders envisioned.
What is for a simple guy like me to do, other than vote against everything they stand for, and against all their candidates? No more Trojan horses. There are no good Democrats. If they were good people, they would not be Democrats.
It is possible to separate the good someone does from their politics, Slow Joe. Can’t say I approve of this guy’s choice of political parties – but I can certainly approve of what he’s doing.
Same was true of the late former POTUS Jimmy “Peanut” Carter. IMO he was an abysmal failure as POTUS; ditto for his party while he served and after. But his later actions with Habitat for Humanity are worth noting; I can in good conscience respect him for that later work and consider him a “good” person – while at the same time holding the opinion that he’s one of the worst 5 to 10 US Presidents of all time who through misguided opinion did serious damage to the nation. The road to hell, etc . . . .
Very few people are 100% good OR evil. And those who are generally “good” often have serious blind spots and/or hold head-scratchingly bad political opinions.
Hondo, I agree with Slow Joe that the Demonrats are the party of slavery (were in the 1860’s and are again today), but I also believe that they evolved a bit over the years to the point that, as I was taught at least, that by the turn of the century they and the republicans both loved the country, but supported different values insofar as rich people versus working class people were compared. My parents were both died-in-the-wool democrats but were they still alive today would be sickened by the party and would have become republicans or independents, as they were anything but liberal and actually far from it. To me they would be the quintessential MAGA supporters today. I think it’s all too clear to anyone but those who remain in the party that the democrats are now the party of sickos, weirdos and hateful communist.
Not that I was ever a fan of his; but, if he was alive today, JFK would have been run out of the demonrat party on a rail. His, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country”, would be demonrat blasphemy.
Dennis, Yes, I agree too regarding JFK. My mom (maybe not dad so much) thought JFK was the end all be all, but as I got older and learned of his philandering ways and the father’s bootlegging deals and the pull he had in politics, I thought less and less of the family. But mom taught me very early on about JFK’s military heroism and the balls he had as a skipper on his boat and how he handled that situation as a leader and that made me respect him mightily in that regard. To me he proved that he was the kind of leader who would never ask his men to do something that he himself would not do and for that I hold the man in very high esteem. As a husband, not so much. As a president, I can’t really say because I guess mom’s glossy opinion of him was clouded by her supreme respect for his bravery and commitment to his country and I must admit that I really didn’t look into his presidential accomplishments. But yes, I agree, much like his nephew has been, he would be drummed out of the Democratic party if he would not have already left it on his own by now, were he still alive today.
My dad loved JFK because of the green beret!
Listen to Dr. King: ” I have a dream, when men shall be judged not by which party they belong to, but by their behavior and their actions “. Well, he didn’t actually say that – but he should have.
Following what happened to Mr. Kirk, many dim voters were rightly horrified at their side’s reaction. I saw them post videos online saying they were leaving the party. Some said they would join the Republicans. A plurality of them said they would be Independent. Regardless, it’s bad news for the d-rats, who only have radicals, extremists, and corporate dims left. I am fully supportive of the idea that the demonrat party make like the Whigs and dissolve. Maybe the disenfranchised dims who left can make a new party that more aligns with their values and doesn’t give the other side vibes that scream “existential threat to our country.” One can hope. ‘Til then, I’ll carry on with what I’m doing.
“forced to dig his own grave”
Ok, hand me the shovel…if you dare.
I saw news clips yesterday of Gaza “refugee” children celebrating the ceasefire. Clean, well-dressed, obviously well-nourished refugee children. Much like the refugees we saw at our southern border. Where’d all the skinny, starving, emaciated kids go? Wrong photo op?
A dim Attorney actually doing his job??? That is a rarity. I wonder if this is further evidence of cracks forming in the party
Greta….🤦. Can we please make her and her cohorts carry potted plants around wherever they go to try and replace all the oxygen they steal from everbody else?
Greta couldn’t carry a pot big enough.
Lol true!
He’s been a good one since he was voted in. He succeeded Marilyn Mosby who was more crooked than a question mark. She was softer on crime than a limp schwonce. If we had a better Mayor who would actually support him, I bet Bates could do more. I think he might only “be” a democrat because he knows he could never get voter support if he ran as a republican.
I’m from Baltimore (but no longer live in the city) and this guy is definitely a keeper. The boy mayor (Brandon Scott) is an idiot, ghetto turd who works against him, but Ivan Bates is a good guy and doing the very best he can with no help from Scott. He and the Police and the Commissioner are solely responsible for the reduction in crime despite the fact that Brandon Scott will take credit for it.
“I’m Gretta Thumbuhg, and I hate how the people of Earth are destroying the Global Warmth echochangement anti-palistinian economic eco-whale saving…Excuse me, I haven’t gotten to ‘save the whales’ yet…non-binary mammal fish…um…and so on…HOW DARE YOU??”
Have I covered her bitch statements, or am I missing a few?
Not even close. There ain’t enough electronic storage in the world to document all of the inane things that “Special Little Greta” has said or will say in the futures.
