Teen defending family member shoots, kills Dothan man
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – A teenager shot and killed a Dothan man Monday morning.
According to police, officers responded to an apartment on Alabama Avenue just after 5 a.m.
The person who was shot was identified as Johnny Oliver, 28.
During the investigation, officers discovered Oliver was assaulting a person inside the apartment. A gun, which Oliver had brought with him to the apartment, was taken by a teen under the age of 18.
According to police, the teen asked Oliver to stop several times before he fired a single shot hitting Oliver in the upper torso.
Dothan Police have consulted with Houston County District Attorney Russ Goodman and criminal charges are not expected at this time.
Oliver was out on bond on a prior shooting charge.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A 16-year-old was arrested, another 16-year-old boy is dead, and a woman is fighting for her life after an early-morning shooting in Madison.Just after 1 a.m., authorities say they arrived at Buffalo Trail Apartments at 3711 Dickerson Pike. There, they found Demario Anderson shot to death wearing a ski mask.
Just over half a mile away, 19-year-old Janiyah Batey was found shot inside a wrecked car at a Shell gas station, according to Metro Police.
Police later determined that the 16-year-old suspect and the teen who died and two other people reportedly tried to rob Batey.
Now, after the incident, many parents at Cedar Hill Park say it’s an outcome that’s top of mind.
“You hear about it every day, and you’re like that’s sad,” a parent said. “Now, when I was younger, I’d be like ‘oh my gosh, that never happens.’ I’d be so surprised, but now it’s like that normal, but it’s normal now in this area.”
Police believe the teen suspect, the teen who died, and two other suspects tried to rob the 19-year-old woman.
Metro police say both shootings are connected and believe that Batey was planning to meet with Anderson at the complex before the shooting.
Some are hoping for additional safety measures to put them at ease.
“If we can see more patrolling done by the officers, if they were more of a presence,” a parent said. “You see them, but it’s not in places that they should be.”
Metro Police say they are in the process of interviewing people at the apartment complex.
The investigation into the identity of the other two suspects continues, police said.

BZ to the teen for stepping up and doing what needed to be done to take responsibility to protect the other person (no mention if friend or family). A difficult task at that age and inexperience.
The (family of the) teen should sue the Oliver estate (if there is any) for therapy for the teen.

That is not a Spencer rifle in the pic. That is a a Spencer carbine. The Spencer rifle has much longer barrel and full length forestock. Spencer only made 7500 that were initially purchased by the Union Army and issued in 1863. The Union Army purchased a great many more carbines.
