WTH is a demilitarized Superbowl?

| January 29, 2010

That giant urine-hoarding freak Geof “Stolen Valor” Millard is hosting a “Demilitarized Superbowl Party at the DC IVAW house on Super Sunday, I guess it’s for people who really don’t like football and don’t have any real friends;

I’m not a big sports guy (after high school and spending half of my military career overseas) but this David Zirin (who apparently writes for The Nation) doesn’t seem like a typical sports journalist. He’s a little flamboyant. But, hey if you’re up for a demilitarized Super Bowl party – I guess this would be the best one to go to.

Just make sure that’s a beer you grab from the fridge and not some of Adam Kokesh’s leftover uranium-tainted urine.

The invitation states, “It has become commonplace to barley notice”… What the heck is a barley notice? Is that some sort of new game played with alcohol? The rest of this is pure bunk. Whether you agree or disagree with the politics of the war, the fact that Super Bowl committees tend to honor our troops is a good thing. They serve with honor and pride every day and the only thing I could think of that would show a little more respect for them would be to somehow get around the restrictions on showing the commercials in overseas locations. Serving in the military is an honorable profession and just because some choose to dishonor their service doesn’t mean the rest of us have to go along with it.

Not that it matters much but ‘barely’ is a cereal grass.

I think it just self-loathing on these people’s part. They couldn’t measure up to military standards, so rather than try and better themselves they lash out at the military.

Son_of_Chesty

Man, these IVAW members hate everything that is fun. “Hey comrade, let’s take the best eating, drinking, and sports day of the year and make it a political fuck fest!”

In Zirin’s defense, he can be very insightful at times. However, the majority of the time he is writing for the socialist worker and spewing some neo-Marxist garbage.

er, uh…. ‘barley’ is a cereal grass.

“It has become commonplace to barley notice”

That’s right, I’m serving barley notice right now…..so notice that the barley will also be mixed with wheat and hopps, then cooked into oblivion. Next I will add yeast and allow it to work a miracle on the sugars and voila, ethanol infused barley juice……and it shall be nummy and evermore proclaimed good and just for consumption upon the 2nd Sunday of February…..that is unless you’re a dick, then you can go to a demilitarized Superbowl party and join in on the circle jerk of fun and merriment!

They’ll probably spend most their time reminiscing about the glory days when the media actually paid attention to them. Poor Geoff and IVAW, haven’t seen those idiots on TV in a long time. Guess the media doesn’t love them anymore since Obama got elected.

I was just about to reply to your first post when I saw this. Good thing I scrolled down slowly. For the record, barley is also a major component of some forms of alcohol used for imbibing.

Isn’t a football game a metaphor for war? Two opposing sides, in physical combat to gain the territory of the other?

Isn’t a guy that is not an Iraq veteran, but joins a group calling themselves veterans…just a stupid fucking liar?

You know, if someone were contemplating some sort of civil disobedience action against these assclowns, well… that would be the day to do it. Talk about a target-rich environment. 🙂

Ray

When my oldest daughter became old enough to fetch things for her loving Dad, I used to send her to the fridge to get me some “barley soda”. LOL.

I, for the life of me, can’t figure out why TSO keeps saying that IVAW is NOT a VSO.

It can’t be anymore plainer, TSO.

Is it their intent to turn off the TV during the national anthem, each segment showing some troops sitting around a TV and each military commercial? Maybe one member will watch the commercials (later that member will be deprogrammed) and give the “all clear”. Or is “all clear” too militaristic?

B Woodman

AW1 Tim,
I was thinking approximately the same thing, about that cluster-f*** being a target-rich environment.
But it wasn’t “civil disobedience” action I had in mind.

I freely admit that I don’t give a rat’s ass about the super bowl/bore. It hasn’t been competitive and exciting but maybe a handful of times in the last thirty years or so. But if the Missus and I are invited to a friend’s for the game, food and malt beverages we are gracious guests. But the room is usually made up of blue collar, former/retired military guys and gals. Hmmmmmmmmm. Common thread here.
But for this idiot, he may have a small crowd. Your typical lefturd dirtbag tends to revile a hard hitting game like football.

[…] This ain’t Hell… wonders what the hell a demilitarized Super Bowl is […]

Casey J Porter

I don’t get this at all. What are they going to do? Boo really loudly if they show an Army commercial? These jokers try to suck the fun out of everything.

Ray

Tim,

I wasn’t thinking of “civil disobedence”. The term that came to my mind was Dungaree Liberty

AW1 Tim

Why yes… yes indeed. Dungaree Liberty is a tried and true formula, and never fails to achieve the desired goals.

You are a good shipmate, Ray. 🙂
