Right Wing News blogger poll: The 2012 GOP Primaries
Ready for the 2012 primaries? John Hawkins of Right Wing News did a poll of 69 conservative bloggers (yours truly included) on who we’d support for the Republican candidate and here are the results;
12 ) Mike Huckabee: 0% (0 votes)
11 ) Ron Paul: 1% (1 votes)
10 ) Newt Gingrich: 3% (2 votes)
9 ) Haley Barbour: 3% (2 votes)
8 ) Rick Perry: 4% (3 votes)
7 ) John Thune: 7% (5 votes)

Got mucho heartburn with #6. I listed to Jeb Bush on Bill Bennett this AM and he spoke in favor of a standardized test for graduation and said that it is a myth that teachers will “teach to the test”.
VA has the SOL (Standards of Learning) where certain classes have a statewide test at the end of the year and I have had teachers tell me they are teaching to the test.
That tells me he is an idiot or a liar. His choice.
Plus he needs to change his last name before there is a chance. Unless this was the poll for a sacrificial candidate because:
a) It is so and so’s “turn” ala McCain, Dole, etc.
b) The R’s believe that no one can beat Obama
c) Michael Steele and company really want the U.S. to get so messed up the R’s can rule for 4 decades.

I’m not investing much energy in 2012.
None of the Above works for me.
The teachers in Maine certainly teach to the test, and their curriculum is designed specifically for that outcome. It’s one of the many reasons why I am homeschooling my youngest.
I couldn’t care less about Jeb Bush’s qualifications. I won’t vote for him simply because I don’t want another “royal” family in government. This nation has had enough of that sort of thing.
However, if Sarah Palin decides to run in 2012, she’ll have my full support. Romney and Huck can kiss my patoot.
Would have been nice to Jim DeMints name near the top of that list..

What do you think of Palin supporting McCain currently? Against Hayworth? Hmm. I like Palin, don’t get me wrong. But this seems strange.
I don’t really like anyone on the list. I still like Bobby Jindal, but I think a lot of people would criticize him on his age. I am just tired of seeing the same old retreads being put forward. I don’t think that our next president should come from congress, but should be a governor.
It worries me that Palin is #1. I truly think she’s confused about what she wants/what she’s supposed to say. She’s a pr trick and we see how well that’s working for the dems this go-aroind.

I wouldn’t mind Palin at all and Jindal would be great. I think Jeb would also be great but he’s gonna have to wait a little longer, I think it’s still too close to GW’s administration for him.
Speaking as a recovering teacher I can tell you that teaching to the test is a myth…..and it’s not, take your pick. We teach to the state mandated curriculum….guess what the tests are centered on? Yup, state mandated curriculum. If you eliminate the test we would still be teaching to the test.

I am a Duncan Hunter fan and my dream team would be Fred Thompson/Duncan Hunter.
Yeah, I know, all the “experts” will think I’m crazy, but that’s my dream team and it was during the last election cycle.

I can only speak for Michigan, but the other states are probably pretty similar. There are National standards set forth by teachers which Mishigan typically mirrors. Our State Board of Education sets the curriculum standards and benchmarks and individual districs then determine how to best align with them. They essentially say “kids must know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide” and the teacher determines how to teach their kids. I’m being pretty generic, there would be a little more detail than that. Certain subjects are pretty easy to design standards for, like math, physics, etc…(I taught Chemistry and Physics but there were no standards at that time) Others can create problems like changes to the history curriculum which could obselete all of the text books in a district (that’s the “unfunded mandate” part) In Michigan, the State Board rotates every year to revising standards from one subject to another, from high school to elementary school so your subject area may only change every 5 years or so and generally the changes are not sweeping but more like tweeking.
I’d love to convince Tom Coburn from Oklahoma to run, but I don’t see it happening.

If those are our choices, and Palin is the #1 choice, then we’re screwed.
I’m with Old Trooper, I too like Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. I also like Thaddeus McCotter.
I don’t hate – or even dislike – Sarah Palin, but nominating her would be the biggest mistake the Republicans could possibly make. The Republican Party would never be taken seriously again.
