Then they came for the Generals..
And I laughed because I was not a Pefumed Prince.
Hegseth directs 20% cut to top military leadership positions
By Tara Copp, AP
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Monday directed the active duty military to shed 20% of its four-star general officers as the Trump administration keeps pushing the services to streamline their top leadership positions.
Hegseth also told the National Guard to shed 20% of its top positions.
In a memo dated Monday, Hegseth said the cuts will remove “redundant force structure to optimize and streamline leadership.”
On top of the cuts to the top-tier four-star generals, Hegseth has also directed the military to shed an additional 10% of its general and flag officers across the force, which could include any one-star or above or officer of equivalent Navy rank.
There are about 800 general officers in the military, but only 44 of those are four-star generals or flag officers. Hegseth has already directed the firings of more than a half-dozen three- and four-star generals since taking office, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff…
Culling the herd by eliminating eight or nine 4-star positions, and an additional 10% of other, lesser Flags across the military.

20%, that would be a good start.
Cull a few more and while you’re at it reduce some of these clowns in rank.
After the National Guard, a good look at all of the reserve units in each branch. Start looking at some of those senior enlisted that are as wide as a Mack truck but somehow manage to run in outstanding time or can do a hundred pushups.
I didn’t recognize some of them without their makeup and skirts on.
Oh noes….
20%? We can do better than that.
Poor things. I do hope they can survive and buy groceries on their retirement pay and/or their salary as a member of the Boards of Directors at a major MIC gig. Bless their hearts.
I once ran across a former detachment commander of mine (Helo detachment) who was a LT CDR when I knew him but retired as a full commander (O-5) bagging groceries at the Commissary for tips.
I’m sure he could put in a good word for the newly retired Flag officers and get them a gig there too.
Retire any Flag Officer that can’t bench press 225lbs.
Bench or weighing over 225? From the looks of the pic above…thats about ALL of them.
Good point.
Lets break out the jump ropes!
Well…a little simple math. The average of monthly salary from O7-O10 is 17789.80 a month. Multiply that by 80 and that equates to 1.4 million dollars a month in salary a month or 17 million in salary a YEAR…..so I guess in 4 years time we can finally write off that F/A 18 Hornet that was splashed off the Truman….
You left out all the aides, cooks, drivers, staffers and other associated personnel. We could make it back the first year easy.
“$ 17,789.80 a month…”???
Good GOD! My dad was making $17,500.00 per YEAR in 1967-69 as a public accountant. And that was STRUGGLING at the time.
“Then they came for the Generals..”
And then I didn’t care and it was good.
I remember when they came for the Specialists…..
Don’t forget to cashier the company-or-larger staff that accompanies these elite “warfighters”.
You mean that group that exists purely to create reports of other people’s products to satisfy the General/Admiral who wants to stay in the know!?
Some of them could be well placed back in to the Army/Navy/Air Force Service Component Commands (ASCC) to make them Theater Armies again instead of just logistics HQs. If we made them modular to come together as a JTF it would really be functional…instead of keeping Hollow staffs around to become JTFs.
This point is true. Make the ASCCs JTF-capable and not rely on a joint manning document and a promise of fill if necessary.
Talking about cutting GOs appeals to the masses but the associated manning guidance to commands keeps them perpetually under-strength and unready. I don’t care if you bump the GEN to LTG though.
The AFI for my job required a vehicle and equipment in commission rate report once a week. That wasn’t good enough for the Colonel; he wanted a fresh report on his desk NLT 1400 every day. Since the Colonel got a daily report, the CMSgt wanted a fresh report on his desk NLT 0800 every day. It took about 2 hours per report, so 4 hours a day on a report that was required once a week. 20 hours vs 2 hours. Get rid of the Colonel and the CMSgt and one gets 18 hours a week available to actually do something constructive.
A quick and easy step would be to downgrade the authorized rank for all TDA units. Do we really need every PEO office to be “commanded” by a Major General?
It’s also time for a hard look at Goldwater-Nichols. That act has led to the bloat at COCOM staffs.
The US Army has a General Officer Management Office if you REALLY want to get pissed at the number of FOGOs.
EVERY NG in EVERY state is headed by a federally recognized MG regardless of size. Texas with over 20,000 ARNG and ANG has a MG. Washington DC with about 2 battalions has a MG. Ridiculous
The TAG thing is to ensure equity among the states. Regardless, the state pays the salary and elimination of all 50 would save zero federal dollars.
In DC the TAG reports to the president directly and that is an exception. However there are 3400 guardsman in the DC National Guard, more like a Brigade (-) and their unique make up and their missions support a higher ranking officer.
This is great news! I always found it interesting that whenever there is a force reduction, the snuffy’s and company grade officers are the only ones affected, never the flag officers. Next get rid of the plethora of E9s out there that do nothing other than stay in way too long and make everyone around them’s life miserable.
“There are about 800 general officers in the military,…” (I’m figuring that includes Flag Officers)
And how many (GO & FO) were there leading the US forces during WWII? (beginning and end)
More GOs but hugely more troops, too. One general per 6,000 troops roughly – now it’s one per 1600 troops. https://ndupress.ndu.edu/Media/News/News-Article-View/Article/1325984/are-there-too-many-general-officers-for-todays-military/
This will go a long way towards equaling out the chiefs v Indians ratio.
Not near enough.
See the meme
Just like us…..Too many Chiefs, not enough Indians
The amount of bots and/or NPCs chewing off their own faces in youtube comments is disturbing.
Of course they know not of what they speak of but the idea this is a prelude to CW2: The Honkening has been amusing.
I don’t remember this much outrage in suspension of civil rights by uniformed personnel during; Katrina, The Bad Cold of 2020, the Scrum of 06JAN21 and its aftermath, Philly after a championship, etc.
But what I really wanna know, what is Darth Lloyd Austin’s opinion… presuming it ever downloads from Raytheon into his neurolink.
Trump can’t destroy America. He already destroyed it in 2019 when he opened all those concentration camps and burned the Capitol.
I forgot about that!
This is why the safest place for a jewish person is a college campus.
Haavaard. Very safe, it isn’t like they would hire someone that had just committed a hate crime against a Jew or think it was ok to call for a genocide.
Pro Palestine fans occupied and shut down a new $115 million dollar engineering building at the University of Washington today after doing $1 million dollars in damage inside.
Easy to recoup. Divide however many were caught by amount of damage, present bill, and tell them when they pay that off, they can have their diplomas.
That bill + student loans to repay = not enough money to afford a van with covered parking and a river view.
Mom and dad are probably rethinking their financial choices concerning their dick son or scrunt daughter.
Is “social justice” or something, comrade!
Are those the one who were told they couldn’t leave the building w/o presenting (college) ID? No ID, arrested for trespassing.
Weld the doors shut. Post guards, etc. Wait two months. Clean place out.
It’s not Fascist when progressives do it, they’ll have you know.
Pretty sure any General or Admiral is a Flag Officer.
As for the plan, I’m wondering why it is targeted at 4 stars. Lots of other constellations in the galaxy.
The Germans dang near won Europe with 3% officers. We have been mostly losing, now with 20% officers.
We have more GOFOs now than we had to win WW2, with the -vastly- larger armed forces then. Today they also wear near Nork levels of bling. Possobly to hide the lack of victory medals?
So do I conclude we have much shittier officers today, so needed en-mass?
Sheesh.
GO + FO ….
“Get Out”….and “Fuck Off…”
Surprised no one said this…..
