Senate approves bill that provides military aid to foreign countries, but falls short on US border security

| February 14, 2024

The U.S. Senate approved a foreign aid bill that would provide military aid to Israel, Ukraine, and to Taiwan. Contrary to House Republican hopes, the status quo regarding the border remains. Without positive movement towards securing the border, the Senate bill does not appear to have a chance in the House. Joe Biden warned House Republicans that history is watching. On a related note, Joe Biden also said that he would defend every square inch of NATO territory if the Russians attacked.

From NPR:

In remarks Tuesday afternoon, President Biden called on House Republicans to immediately hold a vote on the bill, saying, “failure to support Ukraine in this critical moment will never be forgotten.”

“For Republicans in Congress who think they can oppose funding for Ukraine and not be held accountable, history is watching,” Biden said in an address at the White House.

Biden also directly referred to recent remarks from Trump, who said during a campaign rally this weekend that he would not defend NATO allies against attacks from Russia if those allies do not meet his definition of paying enough money for defense.

“If we don’t pay and we’re attacked by Russia, will you protect us?” Trump recalled another country’s leader asking while him while he was president. “No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want.”

Biden called those remarks “dangerous” and “un-American.”

“For Trump, principles never matter. Everything is transactional. He doesn’t understand that the sacred commitment we’ve given works for us as well,” Biden said.

Biden promised not to walk away from America’s allies.

“For as long as I’m president, if Putin attacks a NATO ally, the United States will defend every inch of NATO territory,” he said.

Biden closed by asking if Republicans will stand with America or stand with Trump, and called on them to stand for democracy.

1-Putin will NOT attack NATO. In 2 years he can’t defeat Ukraine, and you think he wants to take on more?
2-His goal is now and always has been secure a land bridge to Crimea and the Oil & Gas leases for the Black Sea
3-Support a Pro-Russian (1/3 of Ukraine is roughly ethnic Russians) for leadership in Kiev circa 2012.

Biden & The Neocon Uniparty want money going to Ukraine which will either directly or indirectly comes back into their pockets. 500K dead is of no consequence to their greed. The invasion of America is a planned operation executed by the Biden Crime Family. The goal is flipping Texas blue, so they never lose the White House again. If you want vote for their destructive policies, see California, then they will replace with people who will.

Number one and two are 100% correct. Number three is incorrect. The actual percentage is 17% or about 1/6. The whole reason the war had to happen was he was unable to achieve his 1&2 objectives at the ballot box and therefore decided to use force to seize the newly discovered (post USSR) Petro assets in the Black Sea.

A few thoughts on this – if the NATO countries aren’t willing to pony up 2 percent to defend themselves, and most are not, fuck ’em. We saved Europe from its own stupidity twice last century. We don’t owe them shit. And the presidential vegetable talking tough doesn’t mean much as we all know.

The other thought was that it was my understanding that there was NOTHING at all in that waste of money that had anything to do with our border.

5JC

Worst bill ever. The amount of money they want to send to just the Ukraine, who is not a treaty ally, exceeds the entire budget of the Marine corps. I’m going to say that not only have we done our part we have gone above and beyond.

As usual, Biden fumbled it. He failed to provide the right support when it would have made a strategic difference. They then handcuffed the Ukraine with stupid policy. The whole thing is now World War I style meat grinder, which by the looks of the way they were doing things may have been the goal all along. They certainly weren’t helping them win.

Trump’s sarcasm about NATO nations not spending their agreed 2% of GNP on defense is having the effect of over half now meeting that, on the way to two-thirds:

IMO, It was the more the reality of Russia invading that ignited that candle. So in a way, Joe Biden is responsible since he ACTUALLY DID INVITE RUSSIA to INVADE the Ukraine. And they took him up on it.

Strange how soon the media forgets.

The media has a very selective memory which often correlates well with who’s paying their salary the most.

Biden has never played hard ball. He doesn’t understand how it works. The president however doesn’t have very many options when it comes to fulfilling the NATO treaty obligations because, unlike many so-called treaties, it was approved by the Senate. Trump believes that there is a requirement to spend a certain percentage but there is no actual obligation. The wording of the treaty makes them goals.

Failing to fulfill the treaty defensively might actually result in a president being removed from office. Although like everything these days, it would depend upon the players involved. The current office holder and his officers violate the law daily and there are no repercussions.

Anyway you slice it or dice it, Russia lacks any capability to invade Europe at this time. Even if he wins in the Ukraine the effect on the Russia military has been catastrophic.

Romney said the vote to “provide military weapons for Ukraine is the most important vote we will ever take as United States senators.”

Does anyone think these assholes work for America? What a prick.

F**k Mittens. Utah weeps at this MINO (Mormon In Name Only)

That’s a new one that I never heard before. Well done 👏

To be fair, the Mormons followed their guy way back when to an inland salt lake and said we like it. Not exactly a bright idea, but Utah does have great snow and is a 4WD mecca.

IMO “Mittens” Romney is the epitome of a RINO and he carpetbagged the Utah Sente Seat just by being Mormon and the former MA Governor.

Very interesting opinion piece from Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville:

I Haven’t Voted For A Dime For Ukraine And I Won’t Start Now”

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/i-havent-voted-dime-ukraine-wont-start-now

“I spent Super Bowl Sunday stuck in our nation’s capital, trying to prevent Democrats, along with some of my Republican colleagues, from giving away $60 billion of your tax dollars to Ukraine. If they are successful, Congress would be complicit in sending more money to Ukraine than the entire budget of our Marine Corps.”

“There are times when the United States can and should get involved in a war overseas. This is not one of them.”

“First, we can’t. We are $34 trillion in debt and borrowing an additional $80,000 per second. Our munitions are already depleted from Joe Biden’s giveaways, and we are facing the possibility of war in the Middle East and in the South China Sea. We are broke, and we have too little to show for it.”

“Second, even if the U.S. were flush with cash, we shouldn’t get involved in this war, simply because the United States has no strategic interests at stake in Eastern Europe.”

“We all want Ukraine to win, but we cannot bankroll every war just because we sympathize with one belligerent or another. There are other wars going on around the world right now, but the media is only paying attention to one of them.”

“Our country is in serious trouble right now, with a wide-open southern border allowing illegal aliens, drugs, and crime into our country every single day. Our cities have been handed over to the criminals, our military can’t recruit, and working families are struggling to afford gas and groceries.”

Mason

Well I gotta fact check that. *clicks over to Google*

USMC 2024 budget = $53.2b

Holy shit. Coach is right. Again. Remember when the Democrats shut down the federal government over Trump wanting $5b to secure the border?

Tommy has one of the highest approval ratings of any congressman and beats congress at large by 50 points. In fact all Alabama R’s are hugely popular at home.

There are whispers of Trump having Katie Britt on the short list for VP. Alabama hasn’t had a national office holder since the 1850s. He served a couple of weeks and then died of Tuberculosis.

$53.2 buh-buh-billions split among the 120,907,000 median full-time wage and salary workers (BLS) works out to $440 per worker, or 39.4% of the median weekly earnings for that demo.

I sure as hell would stab a MFer in the MFing heart if he’d just dare to think about making me a slave for ~16 hours in any work week, let’lone to kill some poor bastard half a world away, presuming the money/weapons would even get there due to a lack of oversight and rampant thievery.

And since this is “going on the credit card” the numbers are way worse as the interest will be carried for generations to enrich greedy pieces of human filth like Nikki “I lost to ‘no one'” Halillary & other self-interested ‘representatives’ in ‘our’ ‘government’.

You act like someone is going to pay that. Nope, they are trying to steal it from your great grandchildren. 80 years from now they are going to open that bill and shake their heads and wonder WTF we were thinking.

Odie

Our grandchildren will pull the plug or step on the hose keeping us alive the whole time saying phuck you.

Shit, there’s some folks out there today that I would happily unplug their ventilator (if they were in such dire straits) to charge my worst enemy’s iPhone. 🤣

^Word^ And we are the carbon (((they))) want to reduce. Big concern, for me, is the “Butcher’s Bill” possibly coming up will be higher than the monetary bill that is being added to for presentation to our future generations. Being in the twilight of my time on this plane of existence, I will be watching as the despots try to get their loaded camels thru the eye of the needle.

Good depiction picture of “our kind of people”!

It is America’s sacred duty to defend Ukraine’s ability to sustain the lifestyle of the Biden family. History may look back on this dark period and wonder how we allowed for Hunter to go a weekend with a kilo of cocaine and an entourage of Eastern European prostitutes. For shame, America. For shame.

5JC

Some of those prostitutes were Chinese. Hunter doesn’t discriminate.

Maybe Hunter Biden had sloppy seconds with “Fang-Fang” after Eric Swallowswell?

Well, we did give Ukraine a taste of western wealth, so there’s that.

He can defend every inch of NATO territory by himself. Won’t mean much since he’ll likely confuse NATO territory with places like Papa New Guinea.

On principle, my opinion is that every dollar spent wrecking Russia is money well-spent. I also don’t really care if Ukraine gets wrecked since they are essentially the same. In reality, though, I’ve got real concerns about how the money is managed and what it’s doing to our own strategic readiness. But in the binary choice of pay / don’t pay, I say let’s keep hammering them. They’ve been my enemy for my entire life. (Which I’m old but not as old as the rest of you….) Romney was right about that one, anyway.

My real heartburn is a snooty, smug, euro dude complaining about us while living large as a liberal punk under the financial umbrella of world security we’ve held over them for decades.

This bill contains a kill-pill to provide an automatic ground for impeachment if any present or future president fails or refuses to expend appropriated money under the statute for the defense of Ukraine. Thus, if Trump is elected and refuses to spend all the money appropriated for that purpose it is a high crime or misdemeanor.

Odie

I can hear Trump now… “Bring it Bitches, I’ve seen this show before”.
