Army vet who says he killed neighbor in self-defense reacts to not guilty verdict

by Robert Price
SAN ANTONIO – A young Army veteran who claimed he shot and killed his neighbor in self-defense is now busy planning his future as a free man.

A Bexar County jury found Roger McCracken, 25, not guilty of murder Thursday evening, despite the jurors telling the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked just a few hours earlier.

“I feel like the stress is off my shoulders and the weight’s lifted,” McCracken said Friday during an interview at his attorney’s office.

“I’m happy that I can say I can be home with my family.”
The father of four faced life in prison if he’d been convicted.

“I feel blessed,” he said of the acquittal. “I just know that I’ve got a future now.”

The deadly shooting that landed him on trial took place on Sept. 11, 2021. McCracken, his wife, and three kids had just returned home from Peter Piper Pizza.

But before they could get to their unit at the Pecan Valley Golf Apartments, McCracken says they encountered a highly agitated Ronnie “Boo Bear” Riddle, their 34-year-old neighbor.

“From the jump, I told (my attorney) I wanted my story out there,” McCracken said. “I wanted everybody to know the truth of what happened that night.”

And so, he and his wife both took the witness stand to testify during the eight-day murder trial.

“I realized all I had to do was go up there and tell the truth,” McCracken said. “But I will say, when I got on the stand, it was a completely different feeling. It was tough.”

“According to both of the McCrackens’ testimony, when Riddle came at them, he was calling them a cop caller and said he didn’t need no cops in his life,” said McCracken’s attorney Joseph Hoelscher. “Riddle said he was going to solve this problem right now when he reached for his gun.”

“I wasn’t going to let my family die, and I wasn’t going to let my wife and my kids be hurt,” McCracken explained. “I’m sorry that it happened, but it did.”

Hoelscher called the case a textbook example of self-defense. “Roger McCracken carried his weapon responsibly. He used it responsibly. He did everything that gun owners are trained to do if they ever have to use their weapon in self-defense.”

“He immediately took responsibility for the shooting, he surrendered his weapon and himself to law enforcement without any kind of problem whatsoever,” he continued.

But would a jury agree the shooting was justified? After several hours of deliberations, the jury told the judge they were deadlocked 11-1.

“I was actually very relieved (by the deadlock) because we didn’t know why the jury was taking so long on what we thought was a classic self-defense case,” Hoelscher said.

The judge told the jurors to keep deliberating, and a few hours later they successfully reached a verdict.

Not guilty.

Whut I’m wondering is why the DA DA brought charges to start with.
Just another example of why it is good to subscribe to one of the defense lawyer programs for CCL/LTC holders.

No pic-a-nik basket for you, Boo Bear. Do NOT threaten me or mine. Gotta wonder why that one (1) person was holding out for a guilty verdict. Seemed like a cut and dried case of self defense to me.

“You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”

“…the thing is made – completely – out of hardened tool steel…” as it should be. Tho I’m not sure that even if I had a spare 6 very large laying around I could “pull the trigger” on buying one. $6K is a two+ (2) year supply of food stuffs from MPS…or close to 12K rounds of 7.62X39 from SGA.

Very rare to see a blue eyed Ginger Ms Thang. I’d bolt right into action for some of that.

Pretty sure that’s Kirsten Joy Weiss (youtoob channel link).

Ruling on the field, FGS or naw?:

Houston crime: 24-year-old man allegedly murders 37-year-old convicted sex offender (link to yahoo news)

HOUSTON – A case of vigilante justice? According to court documents, James Lewis Spencer lll made statements, such as if the cops were not going to do anything to pedophiles, maybe he should kill them himself.

During his probable cause hearing, the magistrate stated Spencer claimed to be a minor and agreed to meet Showers to have sex.

While Showers was walking down the street in the 900 block of Northwood, police say Spencer drove by and shot Shoulders several times.

Well, I’m sure Spencer was just {checks notes of AOC quotes} “doing it to feed his family”, this was appropriate action then.

Chicago ‘Kia Boy’ (read: car thief) decides he’s not fit for the planet during foot chase with Mister Police Officers (NSFW, Corpse, Language, Semitrailer Abuse, Local Idiots asking dumb questions… Chitcago Warning):

Never bring a thick head to a semi fight.

MustangCPT

BWAHAHAHAHAHA. That is one DUMB muh-fugger. If he would’ve banged a left and stayed on the sidewalk, those cops would’ve never caught him even if they were allowed to continue the chase. I seem to remember Chicago cops aren’t allowed to engage in foot chases past a certain point. Besides, it’s not like he would’ve spent any time in a cell. They would process him and release him pretty much immediately with the Crook county state’s attorney so unwilling to lock people up. Really, really dumb muh-fugger.

Sarge

Hope the semi is ok

For 3:43 minutes of entertainment, peruse Neal Boortz’ “Boo got shot!”

Boortz retired when King Mierdes I got re-coronated, so this clip is now ancient. But it is a Rosetta Stone.

Had the privilege of handling and firing a Korth .357, back in the early 80’s. Remarkable craft work, with not a single machine mark or unfinished effort. Trigger pull, was like greased ice on frozen glass. Action was the absolute perfection of timed parts doing exactly what they were supposed to do, exactly when they were supposed to do it (bolt locked in the notch, and did not ride on the cylinder prior). Legendary accuracy, that made me look really good 🙂
