KSP investigates deadly Rockcastle Co. shooting

By Madison Carmouche
MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WYMT) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) are investigating a shooting that ended in one person being pronounced dead.

The shooting happened on Little Creek Road in Rockcastle County.

Joseph A. Dawson, 48, of Berea, his wife Katherine Dawson, and her family member, Phillip Fox were having a verbal argument.

While Joseph was inside the home Katherine made threats to kill both her and Fox.

Joseph exited the home grabbing a machete and Fox retrieved his gun and fired the weapon at Joseph.

Especially large knives to a gun fight aren’t all that helpful either.

‘It took a lot of courage’: Phoenix woman shoots at suspect trying to break into her home

By Marissa Sarbak
PHOENIX – A Phoenix woman took out her gun and started firing at a suspect, through the door, who was trying to break into her apartment.

Jenelle Williams heard a man screaming at someone outside one of the buildings in her apartment complex near Central and Campbell avenues around 1 a.m.

She and her 16-year-old son were running out to the store and she says she went right back in and locked her door.

The suspect started beating her door down.

“I opened my door like a deer caught in headlights. We make eye contact and I was like, oh you’re right here,” she said. “To almost knock a door down like that, you have to be really raging.”

She protected her home and family. I’ll find fault with her actions another day.

Caution.

Don’t care how large it is, a knife is still a knife. So I’m not going to list it in the encyclopedia T2NB2AGF.
Com’on, people, show some imagination. We haven’t had any new entries in the past 1-2 months.

And I think the spirit of ExPH2 would agree with me, that’s a poorly written story. In one part, it sounds like three. In another part, it sounds like four. And a gender change. Eh? Where’s Sister Mary’s heavy wooden ruler?

Welcome to my (our) world, Tox. The struggle is really reelz. Not only trying to remember if that one has been submitted/added to the queue, but deciphering if it is in fact a FGS, the trash taking out the trash, or “just another day in the crime factory.”, and “Who wrote this sh*t?” You’d think, again, what with over 1.5 million cases of self defense actions a year, we’d be eat up the examples but, sadly, there seems to be a move to suppress such stories by either not reporting them or hiding the article behind a paywall. I look at nine (9) different news feeds, four (4) of which are narrowed down search engines for defense or crime reporting sites every day. I’ll also change the “local” news to certain cities on the hunt. KHOU was a go to for a long time and lately it has been crickets from them. Other examples abound with the same issue.

Obligatory salute to the Martini-Henry. Fire discipline matters.

That scene still raises my blood pressure. In a good way.

Also used, again with Michael Caine, in “The Man Who Would Be King”. Great movie at Sean Connery’s peak.

Martini-Henry (and all its variations).
For a rifle that was supposed to help keep the peace, it sure was in a hell of a lot of wars and fights over too many years.
(in the article it was mentioned that one variation was a M-H (re)chambered in .303. Be interesting to find one of those & see how well it (still?) shoots vs a SMLE/L-E – besides the obvious single shot vs bolt action)

The collection we bought (most of) last year included a Khyber Pass Martini-Enfield. I knew it was a Martini of some sort, and the workmanship was decent but a little off. The markings were the tell-tale sign that it was a knockoff, though. Unfortunately, we had to pass on that gun due to it being unsafe. When you closed the action, the striker would drop, firing the rifle if a round were chambered. Martini–Enfield – Wikipedia
